What To Do When The Boss Takes A Liking To You chapter 13
The Legendary Vampire
“Ge, you’re right. A man’s depth and substance are indeed important, but I think there’s a basic premise.” Xu Le couldn’t help but interject.
Zeng Junhua glanced at him sideways and arrogantly asked, “Oh, what’s that premise?”
This rookie intern dared to lecture him? He planned to give this naive kid a harsh lesson on “society” later.
Xu Le said earnestly, “Hygiene.”
“Hmph, you little brat—” Zeng Junhua’s face twisted as he was interrupted. He prided himself on his appearance, considering himself “refined and noble” from head to toe. Did this pretty boy just call him dirty?
“What did you say?” Zeng Junhua’s face contorted with rage.
Xu Le pointed to his hair and earnestly reminded him, “It’s greasy.”
Zeng Junhua was so furious he almost laughed. This kid didn’t even recognize a sleek executive hairstyle, and probably didn’t appreciate the value of the watch on his wrist!
Jianxin, standing nearby, burst into laughter.
Zeng Junhua’s face turned green, but he couldn’t lower himself to explain. He quickly regained his usual arrogant demeanor. “You’re that new intern, right?”
Xu Le nodded honestly.
“Although your position isn’t directly under my marketing department, it’s closely related. So, consider yourself half in my department. Don’t think that being a newcomer allows you to slack off. Do your job properly…” Zeng Junhua’s tone was harsh, and his gaze at Xu Le was extremely unfriendly. “If you delay the company’s progress, you’ll be out of here. Got it?”
Jianxin couldn’t stand it any longer and frowned, “Zeng Junhua, bullying a new kid, really? Xu Le, keep eating, ignore him.”
“Oh, okay.”
Xu Le wasn’t really scared. After all, this was a law-abiding society. The other party wouldn’t dare actually harm him, but using his authority to bully an intern was all too easy.
Sigh, he had thought the atmosphere at MissOK was good, but it seemed there were still difficult colleagues around. He continued eating while pondering this.
“Hmph.” Zeng Junhua snorted, realizing he couldn’t persuade Jianxin this time, and left in a huff.
Xu Le felt relieved as the greasy, gloomy-faced guy finally left.
He couldn’t help but mutter, “Both wear suits, but why does President Lan look so handsome while this guy seems so sleazy?”
“Him?” Jianxin sneered, “Letting him carry President Lan’s shoes would be a compliment. His name is Zeng Junhua, and his uncle is a high-ranking official at Starlight Headquarters. He got parachuted into MissOK as the marketing manager because of that connection. Try to avoid him as much as possible. He often harasses female employees and is known for being petty and vindictive.”
“Why doesn’t the company fire him?” Xu Le asked, concerned.
“Unfortunately, there are always such people in the workplace. But don’t worry, your work rarely requires interacting with him. Just ignore him. It’s almost ten, hurry upstairs,” Jianxin urged, glancing at the time.
“Okay, thanks, Jie!”
Xu Le silently vowed to stay far away from Manager Zeng.
Back at his workstation, Jiang Wan assigned him tasks for the day, and Xu Le took them on with enthusiasm.
The lunchtime incident was soon forgotten.
By afternoon, despite his initial energy, Xu Le felt a bit drowsy from staring at the screen and keyboard all day.
Luckily, the company provided coffee in the break room, so he decided to grab a cup.
In the break room, he smelled the rich aroma of coffee and squinted in satisfaction.
A big company really did have everything!
As he was filling his cup, he heard footsteps behind him.
They were steady and strong, definitely not from a female colleague—probably a male colleague.
Without turning around, he cheerfully greeted, “Hey ge!”
Since everyone in the company was his senior, addressing them as “ge” couldn’t be wrong.
The person behind him didn’t respond, making Xu Le curious.
This “senior” seemed quite aloof, or maybe socially anxious. He didn’t think much of it and continued filling his cup.
After getting his coffee, Xu Le turned around, only to unexpectedly meet a pair of deep blue eyes.
“What the h—”
Before he could finish saying “hell,” his hand shook, and the scalding coffee spilled onto the back of his hand.
“Hiss—” he winced in pain, baring his teeth.
The water was over sixty degrees Celsius, enough to cause burns, and soon, a bright red patch appeared on the back of his hand.
Despite the pain, he instinctively wanted to bow to Lan Qing, but a strong hand pressed down on his shoulder.
“Don’t move.”
Xu Le watched in a daze as the CEO took the disposable cup from his hand and placed it on the nearby bar counter. Then, Lan Qing naturally took his hand and examined the burn.
Lan Qing’s hand was fair and slender, almost like a piece of art. The cool touch felt soothing on Xu Le’s burned skin.
Not only was Lan Qing’s hand good-looking, but it was also strong. Although he seemed to hold Xu Le’s hand lightly, Xu Le couldn’t move it at all when he instinctively tried to pull away.
Because of the height difference and Lan Qing’s lowered head, they were very close.
Seeing Lan Qing’s face up close, Xu Le was momentarily stunned.
Although mixed-race features aren’t always attractive, when the genes blend well, the result is a stunningly beautiful face.
Even though Xu Le had a straight man’s sense of aesthetics, he had to admit that in terms of appearance, President Lan was indeed flawless. His features were striking yet softened by an Eastern gentleness, with perfectly balanced proportions and long, dense eyelashes casting shadows under his eyelids.
Even as a straight man, Xu Le couldn’t help but feel a bit flustered and his heart raced looking at Lan Qing’s perfect face.
Moreover, Lan Qing was still holding his hand…
“President Lan…”
For some reason, Xu Le felt his face was even hotter than his hand.
But he was a straight man! Why was his heart pounding in front of Lan Qing, another man?
It must be because of Lan Qing’s high charisma and strong aura. After all, both men and women admire strength.
But Lan Qing was holding his hand for too long—it was just a minor burn…
Xu Le didn’t dare to pull his hand away from his boss and could only look at Lan Qing with wide eyes.
Lan Qing saw the little intern looking at him with puppy-like eyes, wanting to move but too afraid to do so, his dark eyes filled with innocence.
His gaze seemed almost like he was begging.
Lan Qing finally released his warm hand. The little intern’s hand was slightly sweaty, likely from nervousness.
Every time they met, this intern acted like a scared puppy, but how did he have the guts to mock him on social media?
“The company has ice packs and a first aid kit. Go to the front desk and ask for them,” Lan Qing instructed.
“Oh, okay, thank you, President Lan,” Xu Le replied awkwardly.
“Do you always have to react this way when you see me? Are you afraid I’ll eat you?” Lan Qing frowned slightly.
Xu Le exclaimed, then quickly shook his head, “I thought you were another colleague and was going to say hello, but when I saw it was you, I was surprised…”
“So you were so surprised you burned your hand?” Lan Qing’s blue eyes held a hint of teasing.
Xu Le was very embarrassed. “I’m not usually like this, really, it was just an accident, President Lan, I swear!”
Oh no, President Lan must think he’s a nervous wreck. Xu Le thought regretfully, recalling how he always seemed clumsy around Lan Qing.
If he could turn into a puppy, he would have drooped his ears and tail and lay on the ground, whining softly.
Seeing the little intern’s dejected look, a faint smile appeared in Lan Qing’s eyes. “You seem braver on social media.”
Saying this, he turned and fetched a glass of water, adding a few ice cubes, and shook it leisurely.
The ice clinked crisply together.
Xu Le’s mind went blank, remembering his social media post comparing the stray cat downstairs to his boss…
What the hell, President Lan saw my social media posts?!
How did he forget to block him? He should have done that!
He stammered, “President Lan, you saw my social media posts…”
Xu Le’s face burned even more, making his burn feel numb.
What should he do?!
Getting caught by his boss for mocking him, even though he didn’t say anything bad about him, President Lan, with his formidable presence, must feel insulted being compared to a cat!
He could almost imagine the scene.
President Lan, with a cold and noble demeanor, would say, “I’m sorry, but I don’t see the respect an employee should have for their CEO. Please pack your things and leave MissOK.”
“Why are you still standing there? Go take care of your burn.”
The cool, deep voice brought Xu Le back to his senses. He quickly nodded, “Oh, th-thank you, President Lan.”
He then remembered his burned hand, which started to sting again. Grimacing, he left the break room.
Thinking back to the perfect mixed-race face, those enigmatic blue eyes like rare sapphires, and the cool touch of Lan Qing’s fingers on his pale skin, Xu Le shivered.
President Lan really seemed like a legendary vampire!
