Top edge chapter 74
It’s getting bright
He was sound asleep.
The sound of a cartoon playing somewhere could be heard, it was SpongeBob SquarePants, which Klet liked. Someone next to him was breathing steadily, and he could feel the warmth coming through the air.
Shen Siwei rubbed his eyes and woke up drowsily, only to find himself wearing a white bathrobe and leaning on Klet’s shoulder.
The familiar scenes from his memories suddenly unfolded before his eyes, with every detail appearing unbelievably real.
“Did I fall asleep?” Shen Siwei asked in confusion.
He remembered that just a second ago he had plunged into the deep sea, so how did he suddenly end up in Klet’s apartment? If he remembered correctly, this apartment should have been long destroyed.
“Yeah,” Klet glanced casually at Shen Siwei and then shifted his gaze back to the TV. “If you’re tired, go to bed.”
Just like in his memory, Klet was shirtless because he had just shown Shen Siwei his tattoo.
It felt as if time had gone back to that night five years ago when Shen Siwei and Klet had met at the self-service bathhouse and Klet had carried him home.
Wandering through time with future memories in the past was quite an interesting thing.
Shen Siwei hugged his knees, tilted his head, and looked at Klet’s chest. “Why did you tattoo your savior as a gorilla?”
Klet looked at Shen Siwei in confusion, clearly not understanding where the term “savior” came from.
Because at that point in time, he hadn’t told Shen Siwei the story of his savior yet.
“Do you think I look like a gorilla?” Shen Siwei asked again.
“What are you talking about?” Klet frowned and asked.
“I’m saying,” Shen Siwei deliberately paused to pique Klet’s curiosity, “I am your savior, you little brat.”
Klet’s eyes were full of alertness, as if saying, “What trick are you playing now?”
Seeing that reaction, Shen Siwei couldn’t help but want to burst out laughing. He leisurely stretched his limbs, pounced on Klet on the couch, and then leaned back to retrieve a stainless steel dagger from the leather sheath on Klet’s leg. He said, “Here, I’m giving you this dagger.”
“How do you know…?” Klet asked suspiciously.
“I told you,” Shen Siwei playfully blinked his eyes while resting his chin on Klet’s sturdy chest, “husband.”
Resting his chin against the solid chest, he could clearly feel the accelerated heartbeat. Klet stared blankly at Shen Siwei and it took him two seconds to react. He furrowed his brows and asked, “What’s wrong with you?”
“Aren’t you happy to be called husband?” Shen Siwei’s lips curved with a faint smile. If it were the future Klet, he would have probably pounced on him by now, right?
But on the other hand, ‘past’ Klet’s performance was incredible. Even in the face of beauty, he remained calm.
“So you came down in the name of negotiation just to seduce me?” Klet’s tone was impatient.
“What do you mean ‘just to’?” Shen Siwei raised an eyebrow.
So it turned out that Klet had always thought that his mission was to use seduction tactics?
“Aren’t you too self-centered, little brat?” Shen Siwei poked Klet’s cheek with his index finger.
Shen Siwei developed a vague affection for Klet at that very moment, when he watched cartoons with him and Klet showed him his tattoo.
As for later, when they fought the Desert Wolves together, it did amplify the 1% affection to 50%. However, when Shen Siwei learned that Klet was the kid from back then, the 50% dropped back to 0% because he wasn’t interested in pursuing anything with the kid he saved back then.
But then, Shen Siwei inexplicably developed feelings for Klet and ended up with him. It was as if fate had arranged it, erasing the process of going from 50% back to 0% from their love story, and the progress bar jumped directly from 50% to 100%.
“What Desert Wolves?” Klet looked at Shen Siwei in complete confusion. “And why do you always call me ‘little brat’? How do you know about the dagger?”
“I told you, I was the one who saved you back then.”
Shen Siwei stopped teasing Klet and changed his blond hair and blue eyes back to his original black. Then, in Klet’s astonished gaze, he kissed his lips.
—It seemed like he was indeed dreaming.
All the details were exactly the same as in his memory, except for the absence of his oxygen mask.
Klet kissed Shen Siwei back, and a suffocating feeling overwhelmed them. Shen Siwei’s consciousness gradually became blurry, the warm room turned back into cold seawater, and intense pain caused him to open his eyes abruptly.
“Shen Siwei!”
In the pitch-black seawater, faint moonlight pierced through the wreckage of the plane, illuminating Klet’s blurred figure. Shen Siwei felt his body sinking while Klet swam towards him with all his strength.
The first instinct that awakened in his conscious mind was to breathe, like a child longing for mother’s milk—it was a natural response.
However, as soon as Shen Siwei tried to expand his chest, he inhaled a mouthful of salty seawater. Numerous bubbles emerged from his mouth, taking away the last remnants of air from his lungs. He stretched out his arm in pain towards Klet, and just as the suffocating feeling reached its limit, Klet finally grabbed his wrist and pulled him into his embrace.
Their lips tightly pressed against each other’s, and the air flowing from Klet’s mouth eased Shen Siwei’s suffocation.
In the end, he still needed Klet to perform artificial respiration on him.
The two bodies floated in the deep water, neither sinking nor rising. Fearing that Klet might run out of oxygen, Shen Siwei pushed him away for the time being and attempted to hold his breath.
However, as soon as he dipped under the water, he immediately reached his limit, revealing a pained expression. Klet quickly approached and kissed his lips again.
At that moment, Shen Siwei finally realized something was amiss. How was it possible for Klet to breathe underwater?
He observed and indeed, that was the case—Klet was constantly exchanging air.
Shen Siwei had always thought that his body was extraordinary, but he didn’t expect Klet, an evolved Mag, to be that impressive.
The deep sea was undoubtedly Klet’s territory, which explained why he didn’t rely on any equipment to approach the core power station located even deeper.
After a while, Klet brought Shen Siwei up to the surface.
Precious fresh air filled their surroundings, but due to the water pressure, Shen Siwei still had some difficulty breathing.
“Are you okay?” Klet asked.
“Yeah.” Shen Siwei’s face turned pale, his lips slightly purple. He looked at the scattered wreckage of the plane and suppressed his discomfort. “We survived.”
Just as he finished speaking, Klet suddenly looked behind him, scooped up some seawater, and furrowed his brow. “You’re bleeding.”
Shen Siwei had felt it earlier; his back really hurt, with a tearing pain and the stinging sensation caused by seawater.
Klet shifted to the side, leaning to see Shen Siwei’s back, his expression darkened. “You’re injured.”
“Is it serious?” Shen Siwei asked.
Klet pursed his lips and kept a grim face, not saying a word.
Seeing his expression, Shen Siwei guessed that his back must be a bloody mess. However, there was no time to worry about that. Shen Siwei suddenly noticed a dark shadow approaching them from below the water and quickly tapped Klet’s arm, his nerves tense. “There’s a sea monster.”
Unlike Shen Siwei’s nervousness, Klet just glanced down and said, “It’s Leo.”
“Leo?”
Soon, a dolphin the size of a cruise ship emerged from the water, carrying the two of them to a higher position away from the sea. Shen Siwei felt the slippery touch in his palm, looking at Klet in disbelief. “You know it?”
“Yeah.” Klet didn’t say much. “Let me see your back.”
Shen Siwei tried to gather the scattered resilient molecules back to his back, but he felt resistance, and the molecules returned at an unusually slow pace. However, he could feel that those molecules were stopping the bleeding, preventing him from losing more blood.
“Does it hurt?” Klet asked.
Shen Siwei shook his head. “Where is he taking us?”
The direction the dolphin was heading wasn’t towards the Tree of Life.
“Let’s leave this area first,” Klet said. “You’re bleeding, and it will attract bloodthirsty monsters.”
Shen Siwei watched as the wreckage of the fighter jet grew distant, and soon after, small island-sized monstrous fish appeared all around them.
It was only at this moment that Shen Siwei finally felt a sense of relief from the crisis. He looked at the dark Tree of Life from afar and asked, “How can you breathe underwater?”
“You know I’m not an ordinary person,” Klet said, holding Shen Siwei in his arms, allowing him to lean against his chest.
Without the stimulation of seawater, the pain in Shen Siwei’s back lessened. He relaxed and said, “So you’re the biggest extraordinary monster.”
“If I’m a monster,” Klet’s eyes lowered, and his deep voice sounded above Shen Siwei’s head, “then so are you.”
In this world, there can never be another Klet, nor another Shen Siwei.
“A perfect match, huh?” Shen Siwei couldn’t help but smile, but it pulled at the wound on his back, causing him to wince in pain.
“Stay still,” Klet frowned. “Don’t laugh, and don’t speak.”
“It’s okay.” Shen Siwei leaned against Klet’s chest. “I want to talk to you.”
But Klet didn’t respond, clearly wanting Shen Siwei to rest properly.
The moon in the sky slowly rose to its zenith and descended toward the sea, casting a bright reflection in the water. Flickering stars adorned the calm night scene on the sea.
“When I lost consciousness just now, it felt like I went back five years,” Shen Siwei rested for a while and then spoke again. “I called you ‘husband.’ Can you guess your reaction?”
“What?” Klet raised an eyebrow in surprise, seemingly concerned not about Shen Siwei’s question but his location.
“You said I was crazy,” Shen Siwei chuckled.
“He was the crazy one,” Klet referred to himself from five years ago, “say it again.”
“Uh… I don’t have the energy,” Shen Siwei lazily said.
“Shen Siwei,” Klet narrowed his eyes, seeing through Shen Siwei’s intention, “are you deliberately teasing me again?”
“It’s fun to tease kids, right?” Shen Siwei said.
“How many times do I have to say I’m not a kid?” Klet’s face clearly showed his displeasure. “Don’t think I can’t do anything to you just because you’re injured.”
Shen Siwei was indeed relying on his injury. He nonchalantly said, “Don’t touch me, I can start bleeding anytime.”
Klet: “…”
“A thirty-year-old child,” Shen Siwei pushed his luck.
“Shen Siwei,” Klet gritted his teeth.
Shen Siwei raised the corner of his lips, his eyes full of amusement. ” okay, I won’t tease you anymore. It’s getting bright.”
Klet followed Shen Siwei’s gaze and saw that the vertical passage in the center of the Tree of Life had lit up. It seemed that the solar panels on the top floor had finally absorbed the minimum amount of energy, causing the core passage to start operating.
It was dawn, and the Tree of Life was also illuminated.
Klet withdrew his gaze and looked at Shen Siwei in his arms. “Is there anything else now that can prevent us from getting married?”
Shen Siwei pondered for a moment and said, “No, there isn’t.”
