The Whole World Wants Me To Get Divorced

The Whole World Wants Me To Get Divorced chapter 48

Farewell

It was half-past twelve at night, yet the lights were still on in the Wen family’s villa.

Not a sound could be heard in the house. Wen Luojiang and Qiao Shan sat on the sofa, every slight movement outside catching their ears. They would occasionally get up and glance outside.

Both of them wore expressions of anxiety and helplessness, comforting each other with a reassuring grip of their hands.

Finally, in the silent night, the courtyard door gently creaked.

Qiao Shan and Wen Luojiang looked through the window and saw a tall figure carrying Wen Yan inside. Within seconds, the villa’s main door opened as well.

Qiao Shan and Wen Luojiang stood up together, their gaze fixed on the embrace of Rong Xiao, holding the peacefully sleeping Wen Yan.

They wanted to say something but didn’t know what to say.

Rong Xiao didn’t feel like talking to them either; he just nodded slightly and said, “I’ll take Wen Yan upstairs first.”

He carried Wen Yan upstairs, and Qiao Shan and Wen Luojiang watched them all the way.

The living room remained silent, but a low sobbing sound broke the silence.

Wen Luojiang’s eyes were also reddening, but she fought back tears, patting her wife’s shoulder.

Inside Wen Yan’s room,

Rong Xiao gently placed Wen Yan on the soft bed, helping him out of his coat and trousers, and changing him into light pajamas.

Rong Xiao didn’t change; he just sat on a high-backed chair by Wen Yan’s bed, silently watching him.

The room was pleasantly warm, with no lights on. Only the faint moonlight and a few strands of light shone through the window. The ticking of the clock indicated that midnight had passed.

Rong Xiao sat for a while, realizing that the room was too quiet. When he slept here with Wen Yan, whether sneaking in without the Wen family’s knowledge or openly as a guest, Wen Yan would be chattering like a little trumpet. He wouldn’t stop talking until he was sleepy.

But now, Wen Yan was unusually quiet.

And for the next few days, he might never hear Wen Yan pacing around him, endlessly talking.

Thinking about it, Rong Xiao felt the pain in his wound rekindling. However, it wasn’t a pain in his abdomen; it felt like a sharp knife had pierced through, all the way to his heart, shattering it.

He gazed at the moonlight, looking at the emerald ring on his finger.

Just now, under the starlight, with the witness of heaven and earth, Wen Yan proposed to him, promising to keep only him in his heart forever, vowing eternal love and never leaving.

He felt genuinely happy hearing those words.

Having lived for thousands of years, countless humans and demons admired and loved him, their sweet words enough to fill volumes. However, he had never cared. Yet, with Wen Yan, a few simple promises could touch his heartstrings.

But he knew that these promises were destined never to come true.

Once Wen Yan turned eighteen, he would have no excuse to delay the wedding any longer. He couldn’t explain to Wen Yan that he only had two or three years left to live. And if he wanted to live, Wen Yan would have to be the sacrifice.

Perhaps Wen Yan, out of love, would sacrifice his life for him.

But he couldn’t let Wen Yan make that choice.

Wen Yan was still too young, not understanding what sacrifice truly meant.

But he, having lived for thousands of years, couldn’t afford to be as confused as Wen Yan.

So, after the fireworks at twelve, with the echoes of the proposal still fresh, on that drifting boat, Rong Xiao personally altered Wen Yan’s memories.

Countless memories flooded in, heavy enough to make him breathless, each page bearing his traces.

As he watched, like an unfeeling spectator, he erased everything about him, everything that happened in the flourishing mansion, about Yu Bu Wen, Shadow Mountain and more. Everything would become a dissolved symbol between them, all vanishing from today.

After today, Wen Yan would no longer remember a demon named Rong Xiao ever existed in his life. He wouldn’t remember the engagement, the earnest desire to grow old together, or how he sincerely wanted to spend his life with this demon.

Wen Yan would revert to an ordinary person—attending classes, going on dates, worrying about exams and work, ultimately holding hands with a beloved human and entering into marriage.

And he only needed to silently watch, knowing that Wen Yan would be fine without him.

Rong Xiao twirled the emerald ring on his finger and found himself somewhat ridiculous.

If someone had told him in the past that he would willingly give up himself for another person, sacrificing his own feelings and burying his desires just to let someone else live peacefully, he would have scoffed at the idea.

But who could have known that fate was so unpredictable? After maintaining a heart as solid as a rock for thousands of years, it was just when he was about to dissipate into the world that fate gifted him a lover who would break his heart.

“Do you think I’ll be able to witness you marrying someone else in my lifetime?” Rong Xiao murmured to the sleeping Wen Yan.

Perhaps it might actually happen.

Wen Yan, born so likable, with such a family background and beauty, would attract many young and outstanding individuals. They would use all sorts of means to win his favor, seeking his affection and gaining his favor.

Yet, all he could do was watch others kiss Wen Yan, make promises to him, and pledge to stay by his side.

Just thinking about it made Rong Xiao feel as if flames were burning in his internal organs, making it hard for him to breathe.

“Perhaps not,” he softly said to Wen Yan. “While I’m alive, don’t fall in love with someone else.”

This seemed too cruel for him.

He feared he couldn’t control himself and might snatch Wen Yan back.

Lowering his head, he kissed Wen Yan’s fingertips.

Outside the window, snow had started falling again, much like the day they watched a movie together. The snow dyed the world white.

Now, even the snowman Wen Yan made was still on the windowsill, not melting due to magic, yet he was about to lose Wen Yan.

Rong Xiao couldn’t help but think that time was passing too quickly.

He didn’t know how long he stayed in Wen Yan’s room. It seemed like half the night had passed before the door was opened again.

He walked down from upstairs slowly, entered the living room, and sat across from Wen Luojiang and Qiao Shan.

When Wen Yan thought he was secretly planning the proposal, Rong Xiao, too, had concealed many things from his partner, making other arrangements.

He disclosed the truth about his engagement with Wen Yan and his plans to Wen Luojiang and Qiao Shan.

Everyone knew about the outcome between him and Wen Yan these days, except Wen Yan himself, who remained blissfully ignorant.

Facing Wen Luojiang and Qiao Shan, Rong Xiao had regained his usual composure and calmness.

He explained his arrangements to the two across from him: “Wen Yan’s memories are already taken care of. He will think he has been attending school during this time, and the matter of the spiritual bone will be handled by your family. Although many demons in the demon realm know that I’m marrying a human, very few have seen Wen Yan. I will take care of these matters. Additionally, even if I’m not with Wen Yan, I’ve arranged the elite demons from the Demon Control Bureau to ensure his safety. After I die, Wen Yan will inherit my demon core and assets. You don’t need to worry about his safety.”

By then, no demon would pose a threat to him.

He had considered all these details.

After hearing the last sentence, Qiao Shan bit her teeth tightly, barely holding back her tears. She had faced many challenging situations in the business world, but today she felt as vulnerable as ever.

She looked at Rong Xiao almost painfully, shaking her head. “Mr. Rong, we can’t accept such a gift. As parents, selfishly, we hope our child can live well. But we will find a way for the road ahead, my husband and I…”

She and Wen Luojiang felt guilty.

However, Rong Xiao shook his head.

He didn’t come to discuss with them; he was just informing them.

He said, “Wen Yan just proposed to me, and I agreed. So, from now on, he is my partner, whether he remembers it or not. As his partner, he should take over everything after I die.”

After a pause, he lightly touched the emerald ring and said, “So, I have one more request. This ring, Wen Yan said it’s a family heirloom for the daughter-in-law. But I want to keep it. Is that okay?”

Wen Luojiang and Qiao Shan couldn’t refuse.

They had never felt as helpless with words as they did now. They couldn’t do anything but stand up and watch Rong Xiao leave.

When Rong Xiao left the courtyard, he reminded them, “If there’s anything you need, feel free to ask me.”

As he stepped out, Yu Bu Wen was waiting for him outside. It wasn’t clear how long Yu Bu Wen had been standing there, with a small pile of snow on his shoulders.

Just as Rong Xiao had instructed, Yu Bu Wen had already found Li Zheng and Jin Yueze.

Rong Xiao absolutely forbade anyone from revealing even the slightest hint to the amnesiac Wen Yan. No matter the method, these people and demons must not disclose anything to Wen Yan.

Now that Yu Bu Wen was waiting here, it indicated that everything had been handled properly.

Rong Xiao was slightly relieved. Yu Bu Wen opened the car for him, and he got in.

The car slowly headed north, but this time, it wasn’t heading back to the “home” where he had lived with Wen Yan for half a year.

Because there was no longer anyone waiting for him in that empty mansion.

Because that house was filled with Wen Yan’s traces everywhere.

He couldn’t bear it.

So, yesterday, Yu Bu Wen had already packed their belongings. They moved to a villa hundreds of kilometers away, treating it as a long-awaited vacation.

Rong Xiao wordlessly gazed at the dimly lit city outside the window. The Lantern Festival had just passed, and the city had already quieted down.

He knew very well that he was drifting further away from Wen Yan.

But he thought, at least in the final moments of his life, he was loved by Wen Yan.

That alone was enough solace for the rest of his life.
