Pheromone Deficiency Syndrome

Pheromone Deficiency Syndrome chapter 29

Grandpa

Not long after Xie Huaizhou left, the private doctor from the Xie family paid a visit; that day was the day for Gu Jinyi’s physical examination.

The Xie residence was fully equipped, and the doctor was quite familiar with Gu Jinyi. They chatted while recording his data.

Gu Jinyi wasn’t particularly concerned about his own health but instead asked the doctor, “It seems like Xie Huaizhou’s pheromone deficiency is improving. Will he be able to fully recover in the future?”

While Xie Huaizhou hardly showed any signs of illness in his work and daily life, Gu Jinyi knew he actually suffered from frequent headaches and irritability. He just had an extraordinary level of endurance, which masked any abnormality.

The doctor’s expression was somewhat evasive.

Because there weren’t many cases of pheromone deficiency syndrome, the sample size was small, and even fewer patients achieved a full recovery.

But Xie Huaizhou did have hope for recovery.

He cleared his throat and explained as simply as possible, “Pheromone deficiency syndrome has both psychological and physiological reasons. Physiologically, finding a highly compatible omega to complete the final mark is the most effective method. Psychologically, it depends on whether the alpha can accept it.”

The doctor didn’t make the latter part too clear because most of the patients who got sick were widowed alphas, and they had to be able to accept the fact that their partner had left from the bottom of their hearts.

But Xie Huaizhou was clearly not among them; his situation was more complicated, but he was luckier than most.

After finishing, the doctor glanced at Gu Jinyi’s expression and found that he didn’t show much resistance, just looking a bit dazed.

The doctor smiled slightly and analyzed Gu Jinyi’s physical condition again, “Your physical data is better than last time, and the nutritional supplements are effective. I will make some adjustments.”

“However, were your heats usually short before? Did you use suppressants for a long time?” the doctor asked again.

Gu Jinyi nodded. His declining physical condition caused this. After the surgery, the frequency of his heats decreased, occurring only once every two years, and they weren’t seven days long. He could suppress them with medication.

The doctor thought for a moment. “Your heat this year might be a bit longer than before. One reason is your physical condition, and the other is the presence of Mr. Xie, who is highly compatible with you. So it’s best to be more vigilant.”

“Okay, I’ll make sure to take the medication early and bring the suppressants with me,” Gu Jinyi said.

The doctor was taken aback.

He looked at Gu Jinyi from behind his glasses, thinking, why would a mated omega like you need suppressants? Are you treating the alpha as a decoration? Won’t Mr. Xie be furious?

But he wisely didn’t say anything, just reminded, “Your heat hasn’t come for too long, and Mr. Xie is highly compatible with you, so the suppressants may not be as effective.”

Gu Jinyi’s health report and adjusted treatment plan were also placed on Xie Huaizhou’s desk.

And with his grandfather urging him once again to bring Gu Jinyi back, he mentioned this during dinner.

“He pretended to want to celebrate my birthday; wanting to see you is the real reason,” Xie Huaizhou said. “But if you’re unwilling, you don’t have to come with me. It’s enough for me to go back once.”

Gu Jinyi hesitated for a few seconds. He wasn’t unwilling to accompany Xie Huaizhou back, but his grandfather’s insistence on meeting his grandson’s partner made him feel a bit uneasy.

But after looking at Xie Huaizhou, he nodded, “It’s okay, I have time.”

Xie Huaizhou smiled faintly, “Then bring Chu Xiaonian along too; Grandfather also wants to see him.”

So it was settled.

The next day, Xie Huaizhou told his grandfather about this in his office and added, “Thanks to you, your grandson is going to work overtime again to squeeze out two days of free time.”

Shang He not caring: “That’s great. Alphas need to have a career, otherwise, which omega would be interested in you? Xiao Gu might also leave you.”

But Xie Huaizhou smiled slightly. “He won’t.”

Shang He sneered, “You’re thinking too highly of yourself.”

“I’m not thinking highly of myself, it’s a fact,” Xie Huaizhou said calmly. “He doesn’t care if I have money or if I’m good-looking. Even if I have nothing, he would still be with me.”

Shang He fell silent for a moment. “That can only mean the kid is foolish to end up with you. Stop bullying him and bring him to see me sooner.”

After speaking, he abruptly cut off the holographic call.

Xie Huaizhou worked overtime to deal with most of the work, leaving the rest to Xie Ke, which infuriated Xie Ke, who yelled and cursed at him shamelessly.

But he didn’t care at all. He even took the time to accompany Gu Jinyi to watch a dance performance.

The dancer was an actor named Aaron, whom Gu Jinyi liked very much. He was a male omega with a stunning figure and a cute and lovely face.

Gu Jinyi was usually not very talkative, but he couldn’t help himself in front of his favorite dancer. He rushed over to give flowers to Aaron, who remembered him because Gu Jinyi often appeared in the front row of performances.

After leaving the theater, he couldn’t help but talk to Xie Huaizhou, “He’s really talented. He won the highest award in the underage group at the age of sixteen. My favorite is his ‘Sparrow in the Clouds’… Besides dancing, he’s also good at chess… He has a dog and a cat at home, both very playful… He’s going to compete again soon. I want to go see it live.”

Gu Jinyi rarely spoke so much. Xie Huaizhou was initially pleased to listen, but his expression turned melancholy as he listened further.

He could tell that Gu Jinyi really liked this dancer, much more than he had originally thought.

When he heard that Gu Jinyi had also sent a birthday gift to Aaron when he turned eighteen, he couldn’t help but ask, “What did you give him?”

Gu Jinyi hadn’t reacted yet and blurted out, “A brooch.”

Xie Huaizhou raised an eyebrow. “Did you design it yourself?”

Gu Jinyi caught a glimpse of Xie Huaizhou’s expression and hesitated, not knowing whether to respond or not.

Well, it was indeed designed by him.

But why did he feel like Xie Huaizhou was jealous?

Xie Huaizhou was indeed feeling uncomfortable. If the other person wasn’t an omega, his jealousy would have been even stronger.

Why did someone else receive a gift personally made by Gu Jinyi before him?

Gu Jinyi found it a bit amusing. “I designed the brooch, but my liking for him is just like watching a younger generation, watching him become the king of dance from his teenage years, so the feelings are deeper.”

Xie Huaizhou also knew that his jealousy was ridiculous, but he still asked, “And compared to me?”

The evening breeze carried a hint of early summer fragrance as it blew through the streets and brushed past their hair.

“You’re different,” Gu Jinyi whispered, “You have a separate column.”

Xie Huaizhou stopped in his tracks.

He stared at Gu Jinyi for a while, then suddenly lowered his head and kissed Gu Jinyi.

“I really like this answer,” he murmured, biting Gu Jinyi’s lower lip.

Because his grandfather wanted Xie Huaizhou and Gu Jinyi to stay for two days, Xie Huaizhou set off with Gu Jinyi and Chu Xiaonian the day before his birthday.

Xie Huaizhou’s grandfather’s residence was actually within the territory of Baidi Star. After he got older, he moved to a subsidiary star of Baidi Star. It was sparsely populated, with beautiful mountains and rivers, and comprehensive medical resources, suitable for retirement.

This was Chu Xiaonian’s first trip away from Baidi Star since he arrived. Although it wasn’t far, he was still very excited, leaning against the window to look outside.

Because Gu Jinyi hadn’t slept well yesterday, Xie Huaizhou was holding him.

Gu Jinyi half-slept and half-woke, occasionally glancing at the two.

Xie Huaizhou didn’t look like someone who would take care of children at all. He was tall and straight, his black windbreaker outlining his broad shoulders and narrow waist. His face was stern and lacked warmth. But his hand holding Chu Xiaonian’s was steady and patient. Even though Chu Xiaonian’s questions were full of childishness, he didn’t show any impatience.

Chu Xiaonian also liked him. When they were eating snacks, he would even stuff them into Xie Huaizhou’s mouth, full of a spirit of sharing.

Xie Huaizhou probably rarely encountered such bold people, so he reluctantly ate them.

Gu Jinyi smiled, secretly took a few photos with his Ipad, and then fell into a deep sleep.

In this short moment of sleep, he had a dream.

In the dream, there was Chu Miyun, who hadn’t appeared for a long time, still wearing a simple and neat black dress, with her medium-length brown hair.

They were sitting side by side in the garden, drinking tea just like before. The sunlight in the garden was good, and Chu Miyun’s face had hardly changed.

After some time passed, Gu Jinyi finally said, “Xiaonian and I are doing well. Xiaonian still misses you a lot, but he eats well and works hard at school. He has always been obedient.”

“I’m doing well too.”

After saying this, he smiled at Chu Miyun, feeling a little sour in his nose, but still smiling.

Chu Miyun had been looking at him all this time. Although they were sitting facing each other at a small round table, they seemed to be far apart.

Chu Miyun’s figure slowly faded, but her eyes were full of reluctance.

Finally, she reached out and touched Gu Jinyi’s hair, just like when they were young.

“You’ve worked hard,” she said.

Then Gu Jinyi woke up.

The spacecraft landed, and Chu Xiaonian lay on top of him, rubbing his face and saying loudly, “Daddy, wake up!”

He hesitated, looked past Chu Xiaonian, and saw Xie Huaizhou.

“We’ve arrived, let’s get off,” Xie Huaizhou said, holding his hand.

The spacecraft landed directly in the backyard of Xie Huaizhou’s grandfather’s house. This place was quite large, as Shang He had bought a whole piece of land including a small hill as a place for his retirement.

When Gu Jinyi saw the old man, he was wearing a straw hat and fishing. When he saw Xie Huaizhou, he just glanced lazily, as if he didn’t care much about this grandson.

But when he saw Gu Jinyi, his expression softened a bit, and when he saw Chu Xiaonian, his eyes became much more affectionate.

“Grandpa, hello,” Gu Jinyi smiled at the old man and presented the gift he had prepared. “I’m sorry I haven’t visited you.”

And then he made Chu Xiaonian call him “Great-Grandpa.”

Chu Xiaonian obediently called out.

Gu Jinyi had never had to interact with elders in the Gu family or the Chu family before, so this was the first time he had a “grandpa.” Although he appeared calm on the surface, he was quite nervous inside, not knowing if Xie Huaizhou’s grandfather would like him.

He had alsp prepared the gift himself. Knowing that the old man liked jade carvings, he specially asked a friend to bring a work by the jade carving master, Wu Han, a small jade screen.

Shang He looked him up and down, then glanced at Xie Huaizhou, and said, “Huaizhou has good taste.”

He looked down at Chu Xiaonian. Chu Xiaonian wasn’t shy at all and curiously looked at this “great grandpa.” When he smiled, he revealed a dimple and little baby teeth, cute and obedient.

Shang He affectionately touched his head.

“Let’s all go inside. Don’t stand outside,” Shang He patted Gu Jinyi on the back, then held Chu Xiaonian’s hand. “Lunch is ready.”

Xie Huaizhou followed leisurely behind, not minding his precarious family status, chatting with the old man’s caretaker, Liu Bo.

Liu Bo was busy complaining to Xie Huaizhou, saying that his grandfather still treated him like a young man, exercising and boxing excessively without restraint.

Gu Jinyi chatted with Shang He but occasionally glanced at Xie Huaizhou.

He noticed that since they arrived at this subsidiary star and this courtyard, Xie Huaizhou’s intimidating aura had faded a lot.

He was just like any other young man returning to his grandfather’s house, letting go of many defenses he had outside. Although his expression was calm, everyone could see the softness in his eyes.
