Orange Storm chapter 80
Wish Card
After the speech ended, the school distributed a wish card to each person, which was quite simple, made of yellow paper, tied with a red silk thread, and rolled up.
The principal on stage sounded quite excited and enthusiastic: “Everyone, write down what you want to accomplish, your dreams, and the schools you want to attend inside. After writing, give it to your class teacher, and we’ll put them all into a box and bury them in the school’s small garden. We’ll dig them out after the college entrance examination to see if you have achieved them.”
“With 14 classes, won’t the school’s small garden be full of holes?” Xu Hang whispered.
“Do you understand romance at all?” Chen Yao in front turned her head and glared at him, then asked Jiang Xinxin, “Xinxin, which school do you want to attend?”
“Hua University.” Jiang Xinxin smiled, her eyes curved, “I don’t know if I’m capable.”
Chen Yao quickly nodded, “Of course you are! Hua University is so good. I want to go there too, but their admission scores were so high last year…”
Xu Hang’s mother just hoped Xu Hang would go to Hua University. Xu Hang felt a bit scared even hearing those two words, afraid that his mother would interrupt, so he quickly turned his head to look at Fang Xing, who had just stepped down from the stage.
“Desk mate, which school do you want to attend?”
Fang Xing glanced at Jiang Zhijin.
The other person also glanced at him and smiled, asking, “Which school do you want to apply for?”
“…I’m still thinking,” Fang Xing said.
Actually, Fang Xing had considered it. His initial goal was Peking University, one of the top universities, which he should be able to reach with his grades. But now he suddenly felt… Beijing was a bit far from Chaocheng and Shaojiang.
When Tang Yi handed the wish paper to Fang Xing, he joked with him, “You should write down Peking University.”
Fang Xing smiled and didn’t say anything, hesitated for a moment after opening it, and didn’t write immediately.
“Go wherever you want to go, as long as you can be responsible for yourself,” Jiang Zhijin said, looking at him. “If you haven’t decided yet, then write something else.”
Fang Xing nodded and thought for a moment before continuing to write.
- To enter a better university.
After writing this, he paused for a moment and asked Jiang Zhijin, “What are we eating tonight?”
Jiang Zhijin was taken aback and asked, “What do you want to eat?”
“Would you like to go out for hot pot?”
“Sure.” Jiang Zhijin said.
Fang Xing smiled, then lowered his head and quickly added another sentence.
- To have hot pot with Jiang Zhijin.
Jiang Zhijin was initially reading seriously, but when he saw this, he laughed and asked, “Forget about the first one, what does the last one mean? Isn’t that going too far?”
“It’s not too far.” Fang Xing nodded.
“Not only today, but from now until we’re eighty years old, whenever we want to eat hot pot, or barbecue, or crayfish, or spicy hotpot… we’ll go out together, eat together, and then slowly walk back home together.”
“When you’re eighty, I’ll be ninety.” Jiang Zhijin laughed.
Fang Xing also smiled, “It doesn’t matter, I’ll support you. If not, we can both use wheelchairs together, which would be cool.”
“Two old men in their eighties and nineties going out for hot pot and crayfish…” Jiang Zhijin sighed, “What kind of dream is that?”
“…I’m just giving an example, it’s almost the same meaning. Don’t you understand romance at all?” Fang Xing looked at Jiang Zhijin, frowned, and lowered his voice.
Jiang Zhijin laughed for a while and then said, “Okay.”
“The first dream depends on your efforts. I think you should be able to achieve it. After all, you’re the top student, Fang Xing. As for the second dream—”
Jiang Zhijin paused for a moment, then smiled and continued, “It will definitely come true.”
………….
“Milk, eggs, fresh shrimp, beef… what’s this?” Gu Xun flipped through the shopping bag Jiang Zhijin had placed on the bar counter, and pulled out the lemon candy from the bottom.
“Fruit candy?”
“Yeah.” Jiang Zhijin glanced at it. “Fang Xing likes to eat this.”
“You’re really… It’s even more troublesome than raising a son.” Gu Xun laughed for a while, then asked, “The college entrance examination is coming soon, right?”
“Yes, it’s almost here.” Jiang Zhijin said. “Fang Xing has lost some weight these days and stays up late every day. I’m a little worried.”
“Once it’s over, you’ll be free. I remember feeling like I shed a layer of skin when I was in my senior year.”
“I hope so.” Jiang Zhijin glanced at the time, “I’ll be off now. You’ve worked hard during this time.”
Gu Xun waved his hand, “Go, go, go, go pick up your son.”
Jiang Zhijin smiled and left Cloud Seven. The night wind blew, and the hem of his clothes fluttered.
In May, the weather was already quite hot. Most of the people in the class were wearing short sleeves. The fans in the classroom had been running since the early self-study period, making continuous noise until the evening self-study. The windows were all open, occasionally bringing in gusts of wind, causing the exercise books spread out on the tables to rustle.
Even so, it was still hot, and many students fanned themselves with their left hand while holding pens with their right hand to do problems, still sweating profusely.
During the second evening self-study session, there was no teacher. After Xu Hang finished writing the first question on the integrated science test, he exclaimed and collapsed onto his desk.
“Help—when will it end.”
“The countdown to the college entrance examination is hanging there, 22 days left.” Chen Yao from the next row interjected.
“Hurry up, I can’t hold on anymore.”
“Hurry up? Have you finished reviewing all your subjects? Have you practiced thoroughly? Have you memorized every formula, every grammar rule, every essential piece by heart?”
Xu Hang was immediately scared straight: “Forget it, forget it, let’s take it slow.”
People around laughed, and the heavy atmosphere was slightly diluted.
After Chen Yao’s sarcastic remark, she kindly comforted Xu Hang again, “After the college entrance examination, there will be a three-month vacation. You can rest then.”
The bell for the end of class had already rung. Xu Hang felt relieved and got up from his desk, tidying up his things while saying, “After the exam, I’m going to sleep for seven days and seven nights straight—what about you, desk mate?”
“I’ll go home first.” Fang Xing thought for a moment and said.
A few days ago, Zhou Ling had called specifically to ask if Fang Xing wanted company during the exams. Fang Xing declined, saying that Jiang Zhijin was here. Zhou Ling joked that now Jiang Zhijin was more reliable in his heart than his own mother.
Although it was just a joke, Zhou Ling ultimately gave up on coming to accompany Fang Xing, but it still made Fang Xing feel a little uneasy.
The most important thing at this stage was still the college entrance examination. After the exam was over… he planned to go home first.
He couldn’t let Jiang Zhijin notice anything, so he had to say everything that needed to be said before Jiang Zhijin did… he thought as he looked at Jiang Zhijin at the school gate.
Jiang Zhijin waved at him, and when they were face to face, he took out a candy from his bag and handed it to him.
“Let’s go home.”
