Moonlight Left Behind chapter 8
Every summer, Coral Island held a beach music festival, and this year was no exception. In the second week of their stay, the festival kicked off.
This year’s festival was even more grand than previous years. It was said that several famous bands had been invited from all over the country. Lately, people had been buzzing about this event.
“Have you ever been to one before?” Tang Jingyu asked Lin Qinzhou excitedly over breakfast.
Lin Qinzhou was a bit unsure: “I don’t think so. I can’t really remember. Back then, tourism on the island had just started, and there weren’t as many tourists in a year as there are in a month now. They probably didn’t hold such festivals back then.”
“Well, we definitely have to check it out this time. I want to get an autograph from the lead singer of Black Fox. I’m a huge fan.”
One of the main reasons they came to the island was for this music festival, and their excitement was through the roof.
As they were chatting, Qin Yue came back from outside, pushing his wheelchair. It was drizzling, and he parked the wheelchair at the door, slowly closed his umbrella, and brushed off the raindrops that had accidentally landed on his shoulders before entering .
“Boss Qin, you went out on a rainy day?” Tang Jingyu waved at him.
Qin Yue seemed to have just noticed them, his heavy gaze drifting over. He had a few raindrops on his face, clinging to his long eyelashes, trembling with each blink.
This sudden rain fell into Lin Qinzhou’s heart. He unconsciously clenched his fingers, wanting to say something, but his throat seemed glued shut, and he couldn’t make a sound.
This was the first time Lin Qinzhou had seen this person since that morning. Four or five days had passed, and the person who had been visiting him in his dreams every night finally appeared in front of him.
He keenly sensed that this person might be avoiding him, but he couldn’t think of any reason for the other party to do so.
What for? Just because of that line about being “feeling special”?
That made no sense.
“Boss Qin, there’s a music festival tonight; how about we go see it together?” This was a thought Lin Qinzhou had been struggling with in his mind, but Tang Jingyu easily voiced it. While Lin Qinzhou felt a sigh of relief, he also felt a twinge of regret.
Near the dining area, there was a large bookshelf filled with many books that guests could borrow freely without registration—just take what they wanted. Lin Qinzhou and Tang Jingyu were sitting at a table next to the bookshelf, flipping through a few magazines.
He had originally wanted to find that book Secret Crush, but he couldn’t locate it. He didn’t know if it was still with Qin Yue or if it had been borrowed by another guest.
He pressed his fingers against the cover of the magazine he held, waiting for the other person’s response. However, Qin Yue did not come over; instead, from a few tables away, he said, “I won’t be going. Have fun.”
The feeling was like a balloon filled with air being popped, spreading through Lin Qinzhou’s heart. His straightened back bent down, and the hand that hung over his knee dug in hard. He knew his palm was already raw from the digging but just couldn’t stop.
“Oh, I see. Alright then,” Tang Jingyu said, his tone also tinged with regret.
Qin Yue nodded to the two of them and then turned his wheelchair to the front desk. Xiao Yao was also there; the two leaned in and said a few words together. Then Lin Qinzhou saw Xiao Yao take some tissues from the table to wipe the water droplets off Qin Yue’s shoulders.
Her small face was flushed, possibly from laughing or maybe… from shyness.
Lin Qinzhou felt very uncomfortable inside, especially since his friend had to add fuel to the fire: “Wow, does Xiao Yao like Boss Qin? That’s so intimate; I’m feeling jealous.”
Lin Qinzhou gave him a long-suffering roll of his eyes. “Don’t talk nonsense.”
Tang Jingyu was quite unconvinced. “Don’t doubt it. Think about it, just the two of them: one so beautiful, the other also good-looking. They see each other every day; it’s hard not to develop something, right? I’m telling you, they might actually be a couple…”
Lin Qinzhou looked at him. “I want to shut you up.”
“Why?” Tang Jingyu asked, confused.
“Nothing, just want you to.”
Tang Jingyu: “…”
……
The beach music festival officially started at 4:30 PM, featuring a surprise opening act by a mysterious band. Therefore, Lin Qinzhou and Tang Jingyu arrived at the venue early, taking a stroll in the light rain before sitting in a nearby snow cone shop to have some ice.
Lin Qinzhou ordered a watermelon-flavored one; it was sweet and creamy, but it didn’t have the nostalgic taste of his childhood. For something that cost over fifty yuan, it was nowhere near as delicious as what his grandmother used to make.
Tang Jingyu said he had a childhood filter, and Lin Qinzhou didn’t deny it. He scooped up a few bites of ice while gazing at the beach through the rain curtain.
The stage had already been set up earlier, and at this time, staff members were testing the sound equipment on it. Despite the rainy weather, the charm of the music festival was undeniable. More and more visitors arrived; some wore disposable raincoats, while others held umbrellas, blooming like flowers in the rain.
Fortunately, about ten minutes before the festival started, the rain that had been pouring all day stopped without warning, and even a rainbow appeared at the horizon.
“Wow, there are so many people! Is everyone on the island here?”
The two squeezed into the crowd, with a sea of people stretching endlessly ahead and behind, making it hard to breathe. Tang Jingyu got stepped on by a big guy in front, turning pale.
Lin Qinzhou wasn’t much better off; he almost got crushed in the crowd and could barely stand.
The music festival was one of Coral Island’s major attractions, a summer-only event that everyone had to attend to enjoy the lively atmosphere.
“Hello, friends of Coral Island! We’re thrilled to have so many friends gather here today. We are the Black Fox Band, and we hope you enjoy our music. The next song, Summer on the Island, is dedicated to everyone!”
To everyone’s surprise, the mysterious opening band turned out to be the Black Fox. The tourists in the audience grew even more excited, with deafening applause and cheers echoing all around. Although Lin Qinzhou was miles away from the stage, he couldn’t help but get swept up in the excitement.
“Wow, wow, this is a new song written specifically for Coral Island! I’ve never heard it before; this trip is totally worth it!”
The Black Fox band had always been known for their explosive and energetic style, and this new song matched its name perfectly, evoking feelings of summer—watermelons, sea breeze, and secret crushes.
The restless crowd gradually quieted down with this song, each person finding their place to either stand or sit, focused intently on the performance on stage.
Lin Qinzhou’s own song, The Rest of My Life, had a similar style to this new song; even the elements used were quite alike. However, The Rest of My Life had been written when he was just over ten years old, and both the arrangement and lyrics were still quite immature, lacking the rhythm, and it couldn’t even be compared to the level of the Black Fox band.
The Black Fox played a total of five songs before a new band came on stage, led by a very cool girl with a unique voice. Combined with the evening breeze, her singing made people want to fall in love right there.
Just as Lin Qinzhou casually looked up, he spotted someone not far away.
“Boss Qin.” He walked over and crouched down in front of the wheelchair. “Didn’t you say you wouldn’t come?”
The bitterness in his tone was so evident that even he could feel it. Someone as smart as Qin Yue shouldn’t have missed it.
But the other party just smiled at him and said, “Xiao Yao pushed me over; she likes the Black Fox band.”
“Huh?” Xiao Yao was bewildered; clearly, it was the boss who suddenly wanted to come over. How did it turn into me pushing him? What’s this Black Fox, Black Tiger thing? I’ve never even heard of it.
But she quickly picked up on her boss’s hint. “Um, yes, I’m a fan, but mainly I thought our boss had been cooped up in the guesthouse, so I wanted to take him out for a bit.”
“Oh, I see.” Lin Qinzhou stood up, his expression revealing no emotion. “Since that’s the case, such a rare opportunity, you should go have fun. I’ll keep an eye on your boss for you.”
Xiao Yao: “Ah?”
Lin Qinzhou raised an eyebrow: “What’s wrong? Don’t you trust me?”
“Hehe, how could I…?” Xiao Yao couldn’t understand the current direction of the conversation. It was bad to leave, and it was also bad to stay, so she had to look at the boss, hoping he would give her some hints.
But the boss just rested his chin on his hand, smiling at Mr. Lin, not even glancing at her.
And the usually easygoing Mr. Lin seemed to have turned into a different person today. It was as if he completely didn’t pick up on her refusal and pressed on: “So what’s the matter?”
What else could it be! It was because this bastard in the wheelchair was holding her paycheck. If the boss didn’t say anything, would she dare to just leave like that?
She weakly said, “Boss?”
Fortunately, the boss hadn’t completely lost his mind. Hearing this, he lifted his chin and gave her a way out: “Alright, go ahead and chase your star.” Then he turned his gaze to Lin Qinzhou, “Then I’ll trouble Mr. Lin.”
Lin Qinzhou walked behind him, held the wheelchair with both hands, and said softly, “No trouble at all.”
And he was more than willing.
