Last Love

Last Love chapter 71

Wen Ke was momentarily unsure of what to say.

From an outsider’s perspective, he naturally felt that such a vow was inherently fragile.

However, upon second thought, Xu Jiale, being as intelligent as he was, might not be oblivious to this.

But his pain ultimately belonged to that of a good person.

Wen Ke couldn’t help but feel moved. This was the first time he realized that Alphas also had their own constraints. An Alpha who genuinely loved an Omega might be even more fearful and reluctant when it came to childbirth.

“Xu Jiale…”

Wen Ke sighed and softly said, “I understand, I understand. But the situation that arose was unexpected. You can’t blame yourself for this. Jin Chu… he wanted to have a child with you because he loved you, right?”

“Actually, sometimes, I really don’t understand what he’s thinking.”

Xu Jiale smiled bitterly, “Wen Ke, this period has been too frustrating for me. I’ve never lacked money in my life, never thought of going back to compete for the family business. I’m a person with very few desires, and the only thing I truly, desperately wanted was a family.”

“When I first met Jing Chu six years ago, everything seemed so beautiful. He was innocent, romantic, and hardly had any worldly thoughts. He was the Omega I idealized, the one I wanted to spend my life with. After giving birth, he developed postpartum depression. I never told you about it. We went to the best doctors, but for a long time, he wasn’t happy. He cried every day, lost over twenty kilograms, didn’t want to be intimate with me, didn’t like the child. He just cried, telling me he was afraid of growing up, of taking on the responsibilities of an Omega father, of caring for a baby. Wen Ke, I don’t know what to do, really, it’s so difficult, too damn difficult.”

Wen Ke’s breath seemed to be caught for a moment.

Xu Jiale had never been like this.

His grief was a kind of carefree, casual attitude, a cunning readiness to play little jokes on life at any time. But today, he seemed completely defeated by the pain and trivialities of marriage.

“I’m an Alpha, my instinct is to protect my partner. When he’s sad, I feel distressed. So, I didn’t make any demands on him. If he didn’t want to work, I could support him. If he didn’t like the hardship of taking care of the child, I could hire someone. He just needed to stay with Nanyi. But after six years, I failed miserably. In the end, I couldn’t even take care of the thing I cherished the most.”

Xu Jiale sighed deeply. “I’ve been really tired recently. Actually, Wen Ke, I appreciate you asking me to help with this app. It at least distracts me a bit. Even if it’s just that, it’s a lot for me.”

“It’s okay.” Wen Ke awkwardly patted the Alpha’s shoulder. In such times, any comfort might be powerless. All he could do was repeat, “It’s okay, it will pass.”

When Xu Jiale turned his head, seemingly about to say something, he glanced at the back of Wen Ke and then slightly froze.

Wen Ke also turned to look and only then noticed that Fu Xiaoyu was standing at the balcony door.

Fu Xiaoyu seemed a bit drunk, his face slightly flushed, and he was staring at Xu Jiale absentmindedly.

After a while, he seemed to react a bit slowly, raised the whiskey bottle in his hand, and somewhat awkwardly said, “I just opened the bottle of whiskey I brought last time. The taste is not bad. Do you guys want to try it?”

“Oh, sure.”

Wen Ke unconsciously answered.

Looking at Xu Jiale, he found that the Alpha had quickly returned to his usual demeanor, smiling and saying, “Sure, bring a glass.”

After drinking some of the whiskey, Xu Jiale’s condition was still pretty good. Han Jiangque, who was already drunk, decided to stop drinking altogether. After drinking some tea, he recovered a bit. In the end, it was only Fu Xiaoyu who got a bit tipsy.

Fu Xiaoyu had a good alcohol tolerance. Even though he had drunk a lot, he didn’t show any significant reactions at first. Wen Ke didn’t even notice how drunk he was.

It wasn’t until he sat on the sofa, gazing at him with a bewildered look, and began to mumble in a very low voice, “Last time, didn’t you make a dish of cabbage and tofu soup?”

“Yeah.” Wen Ke nodded.

“Later, I wanted to try making it myself. I went to the supermarket and spent half the time choosing. Oh, there are so many types of cabbage—Napa cabbage, milk cabbage, and regular cabbage. It gave me a headache. In the end, I chose the regular cabbage. Then, the tofu—I wanted to buy fried tofu, but it was deep-fried. So, I thought about it and decided to skip it. I just bought regular white tofu. Then, according to the instructions online… started with low heat, and then…”

Wen Ke listened dumbfoundedly.

Fu Xiaoyu was an extremely intelligent Omega, with a style of doing things that was concise and efficient. He had never heard Fu Xiaoyu babble like this before.

“That’s just how he is.”

Han Jiangque stood aside, whispering to Wen Ke, “When he drinks too much, he becomes talkative, recounting everything from start to finish, not letting go of any details.”

“Hahaha.” Wen Ke was trying to hold back his laughter. Xu Jiale, on the other hand, burst into laughter without reservation. Seeing this, Wen Ke couldn’t help but laugh too, bending over with a smile.

Fu Xiaoyu had become so intoxicated that he was almost lying on the sofa. But even in this state, he continued to persistently mutter, “Boiled for more than ten minutes, but it didn’t taste like anything. Later, I saw online that cabbage should be torn apart, not cut open, to make it more flavorful.”

“That’s the right idea. You’re correct,” Wen Ke replied, suppressing his laughter.

“Yeah…”

Fu Xiaoyu seemed to care a lot about being his only listener. He grabbed Wen Ke’s arm persistently, lay down on his own, and pulled Wen Ke down with him.

Wen Ke, looking closely at Fu Xiaoyu, was momentarily stunned.

After working together for so long, sometimes he would overlook Fu Xiaoyu’s outstanding beauty.

The Omega’s skin was as smooth as satin, shimmering with a healthy and beautiful glow. He had a pair of round and charming cat-like eyes, perhaps appearing a bit silly due to the moist and hazy mist. His body emitted a rich fragrance of magnolia pheromones.

Normally, Fu Xiaoyu was tense and the perfect elite, making it hard to notice his charm as an Omega.

But when he was drunk, because of this slightly silly and silly aura, he exuded an exceptionally cute feeling.

“Xiaoyu, you’ve had too much to drink. Let me take you to the bedroom to sleep for a while.”

Wen Ke’s gaze was gentle. He gently smoothed Fu Xiaoyu’s disheveled hair, slowly helping him up, and then brought the Omega to the large bed in the master bedroom.

“Xu Jiale, you can stay here tonight. It’s too late.”

After settling Fu Xiaoyu, Wen Ke came out and said to Xu Jiale.

“Sure, I’ll sleep on the sofa then.”

Xu Jiale said casually.

“No, you can sleep in the guest room—weren’t you staying here before? The furnishings haven’t changed much, just like before.”

Wen Ke, considering the standpoint of a friend. Seeing Xu Jiale’s recent fatigue, he felt a bit worried. So, he straightforwardly said, “Han Jiangque and I can sleep in the living room. The wool carpet here is very comfortable. I’ll bring out a blanket for you.”

After thinking for a moment, Xu Jiale, seeing that the house was indeed comfortable for sleeping everywhere, didn’t stand on business with Wen Ke. He nodded in agreement.

After a busy day, Wen Ke also began to feel a bit tired.

After both he and Han Jiangque freshened up in the living room’s bathroom, Han Jiangque moved the coffee table to the side. Wen Ke quietly brought out a spare large bedspread and two pillows from the master bedroom, turning the entire living room’s wool carpet into a huge bed.

After turning off the lights, the living room suddenly became dark. Wen Ke and Han Jiangque lay on the warm woolen blanket. Finally, they started their private time, so as soon as they got under the covers, they immediately cuddled closely.

The TV was still on, playing a Discovery Channel documentary about African animals. Coincidentally, it happened to be showing a group of giraffes eating leaves.

The TV volume was very low, and Wen Ke could only vaguely hear the cameraman saying, “Giraffes, giraffes—”

Suddenly, Han Jiangque laughed softly.

“What are you laughing at?” Wen Ke leaned over, affectionately pressing his cheek against Han Jiangque’s face, whispering, “What did he say about giraffes just now?”

“He said that a giraffe’s sex life is very short, sometimes even just one second.” Han Jiangque said seriously.

“One second?” Wen Ke was surprised.

“Yes.” Han Jiangque blinked, lowered his voice even more, and continued, “He also said that although it’s short, the ritual is quite complex. The male giraffe has to use its head to thump the female giraffe’s body side, prompting the female giraffe to pee. This way, he can taste the urine to determine if the female giraffe is in heat.”

Wen Ke was momentarily stunned but soon felt the temperature of his face skyrocket.

In the darkness, Han Jiangque’s black and attractive eyes blinked, looking at him brightly.
