Last Love

Last Love chapter 6

“Zhuo Yuan! What are you doing?”

Wen Ke’s tone suddenly became severe. Already physically weak, his face turned extremely pale under the surge of emotions.

Zhuo Yuan opened his mouth but didn’t retort.

Having been married to Wen Ke for six years, he knew how gentle Wen Ke’s temper could be. Considering his own recent lack of manners, he felt he had no choice but to stay silent.

“Han Jiangque, thank you.”

Wen Ke steadied himself against the table. His fingers were trembling, and his heart was shaking. He still didn’t dare look at Han Jiangque. “I…I’m just in the weakened period after the separation. I really don’t need S-rank pheromones. Thank you, but it’s not necessary.”

Before Han Jiangque could speak, Zhuo Yuan’s phone suddenly rang.

He didn’t answer immediately but declined the call and whispered to Wen Ke, “Xiaoke, I have some business at the company. I need to rush over. I’ve arranged for the driver from home to pick you up here. Okay?”

Wen Ke lowered his eyes. He didn’t like bothering people from Zhuo’s family. Despite discussing divorce for so long, no one from Zhuo’s family had come forward. He knew they wanted him gone a long time ago. However, since Zhuo Yuan persisted, no one thought it necessary to intervene.

He rarely interfered with Zhuo Yuan’s work, and on the other hand, he felt that Zhuo Yuan and Han Jiangque were better off not being together. So, he just nodded calmly and said, “I’m fine. Go ahead.”

“Okay, then it’s up to you here. Anyone is fine; just choose whoever you like.”

Zhuo Yuan, after saying this, stood up, adjusted his attire, and emphasized once again, “Money is not an issue.”

He glanced at Han Jiangque and flashed a friendly smile, saying, “Sorry about today. I’m busy. I’ll take my leave, Han Jiangque. Let’s have a meal another day. Let’s stay in touch, old classmate.”

Han Jiangque also stood up. “No need to be polite.”

He was more than half a head taller than Zhuo Yuan, and coupled with the absolute suppression of pheromones, the sudden closeness made Zhuo Yuan involuntarily recall the memories of being held down and unable to fight back in high school. He instinctively took a half-step back from Han Jiangque.

“I was too impulsive before, and I beat you up badly. So, let me treat you this time.”

Watching Zhuo Yuan’s panicked reaction, Han Jiangque revealed a faint, cold smile. “Don’t be nervous.”

Zhuo Yuan took a deep breath, and at this moment, his phone rang again. Without saying anything more, he turned and left in haste.

No need to bother with Han Jiangque anymore.

Zhuo Yuan thought this way—

He had not only defeated Han Jiangque once but twice.

Ten years ago, he took Wen Ke away from him. Ten years later, he abandoned Wen Ke in front of Han Jiangque.

What difference did it make to hand Wen Ke over to Han Jiangque now? He was a person he didn’t want anymore.

Han Jiangque had already lost to him long ago.

After Zhuo Yuan left, Wen Ke also slowly stood up. “I’m really sorry about today. Zhuo Yuan probably didn’t mean it that way. Don’t take it to heart.”

“I don’t mind.” Han Jiangque just shook his head.

“I’ll go to the parking lot now. We’ll catch up when you’re free another day.”

“Wait,” Han Jiangque reached into his suit pocket, but immediately seemed to change his mind. He lowered his voice, “I forgot to bring my business card…”

“Well, how about this,” Miss Yu, standing on the side, seemed to understand. She quickly took out her own business card and handed it to Wen Ke, saying softly, “Mr. Wen, I see that you’re still quite weak. Don’t think too much. If you need help, just call me. We will arrange the most suitable Alpha to comfort you.”

“Thank you.” Wen Ke took the business card, forced a smile at Miss Yu, and then almost seemed to flee towards the parking lot.

He had always been a polite person, but facing Han Jiangque now, he felt only panic and the urge to escape.

He couldn’t explain his feelings; he only knew he didn’t want to face Han Jiangque.

For ten years, he had done his best to stop himself from thinking about this person.

He didn’t want a reunion.

He remembered that in his sophomore year, after again ranking first in the entire grade, he and Han Jiangque secretly drank two cans of beer to celebrate. That night, they ran to the rooftop of the teaching building, faces flushed, and shouted at the night sky together, “Wen Ke is the king of the world! Wen Ke is damn invincible!”

Some words could only be spoken by an 18-year-old.

Some spirited declarations could only be possessed by an 18-year-old.

Now, at 28, he had become a different person, someone he felt was undeniably dull.

If he never saw Han Jiangque again, could he still hope to preserve a bit of the past’s beauty in Han Jiangque’s heart?

As he stood in the parking lot, feeling somewhat bitter, he suddenly heard a voice behind him.

“Wen Ke—”

Han Jiangque walked to his side. “I’ll keep you company for a while.”

“Ah, okay…” Wen Ke tensed up entirely. He didn’t dare to look at Han Jiangque, so he just stared blankly at the continuous flow of vehicles in the parking lot.

After some time passed, Han Jiangque suddenly asked, “Did it hurt?”

Wen Ke, bewildered, turned his head. Han Jiangque pointed to the back of his neck and asked softly, “The surgery, did it hurt?”

Only then did Wen Ke recall the gauze still wrapped around the glands on the back of his neck. He instinctively covered it with his hand and said in a low voice, “It’s fine.”

When Zhuo Yuan marked him, the bite was quite severe, and he almost fainted from the pain. The skin in that area still bore scars. Now, after the surgery to remove the mark, when he went to the hospital for a bandage change a few days ago, he sneakily used a mirror to take a look at the back of his neck—it looked really ugly.

But Han Jiangque had been staring at his neck the entire time.

The man’s gaze felt almost physically scorching, making Wen Ke feel extremely uncomfortable.

But suddenly, as if a string in his brain broke, he found himself saying in a low voice, “Han Jiangque, you… once said that my neck is very long.”

As soon as the words left his mouth, he wished he could bury himself in the ground. Such an abrupt statement was too embarrassing, and what was the point of bringing up those silly remarks from the past?

His fingers trembled with regret.

“Mm.”

Han Jiangque, however, seemed unfazed and nodded earnestly. “I said you resemble a giraffe.”

Wen Ke’s nose suddenly felt extremely sour. Perhaps the pain and bitterness were too overwhelming, but he couldn’t help but reveal a bitter smile.

He turned his head to look at Han Jiangque, deliberately adopting a casual tone. “Han Jiangque, you’ve also grown taller and more handsome.”

Han Jiangque, being from a single-parent family with a volatile Omega father, started school two years earlier than his peers, as there was no one to take care of him.

Wen Ke remembered that in his first year, Han Jiangque was half a head shorter than him, but by the second year, they were almost the same height.

And now, Han Jiangque could completely overlook him.

The genes of an S-rank Alpha were indeed powerful in all aspects.

“Mm.”

Han Jiangque nodded again.

Apparently, compliments about his appearance were too commonplace for him, and his expression showed no change.

Wen Ke remained silent for a while, as if relieving himself from a dilemma, and then muttered, “Actually, not just Zhuo Yuan, I never expected you to work at LM either. It’s not that I think there’s anything wrong with it. It’s just that, in the past… didn’t you say you hated Omegas the most, didn’t want to be friends with them, and definitely wouldn’t like them.”

In high school, Han Jiangque, despite being recognized as the campus Alpha heartthrob in the neighboring Omega class, never concealed his dislike for Omegas. He despised them because Omegas couldn’t control their heats, would submit to an Alpha’s mark, and be obedient to one person.

Wen Ke remembered Han Jiangque saying to him resolutely, “Omegas are weak, shameful, and lascivious.”

And in his senior year, Wen Ke underwent differentiation and unexpectedly became an Omega.

Not only an Omega but the lowest-ranking E-rank Omega.

The moment Wen Ke received the medical examination report, it felt like the entire world had died.

Thinking about all of this, he suddenly fell silent.

Yes, that’s how Han Jiangque thought in high school.

But why has he changed now?

Ten years have passed, maybe someone made him change.

He probably came to like an Omega, maybe even marked someone. Hence, he thought, Omegas also have their charming qualities.

It was just casual banter, but unexpectedly, it struck him deeply.

For a moment, Wen Ke felt so upset that he couldn’t breathe.

Fortunately, at that moment, the driver from the Zhuo family finally arrived. Wen Ke hastily dove into the back seat, wanting to leave as quickly as possible.

However, Han Jiangque took a big step forward at this moment, grabbing the door tightly and preventing the car from driving away. “Wen Ke!”

“I don’t dislike Omegas.”

His voice was low, and as he gazed into Wen Ke’s eyes, a hint of melancholy suddenly appeared. “I just didn’t understand back then. Wen Ke… At that time, I didn’t understand Omegas.”
