Last Love

Last Love chapter 14

“The one you owe the most apologies to is yourself.”

For Wen Ke, this statement felt like a thousand arrows piercing his heart.

Dust-covered memories were continuously unearthed in a short period, as if the pointer of life had suddenly been wildly turned, moving forward, and forward again. Each revolution brought too many regrets.

He had ignored the scars left by this exam cheating scandal for a whole decade, simply because he didn’t know how to resolve that pain.

He tightly grasped Han Jiangque’s arm, shaking his head, “Han Jiangque, don’t say it anymore; it’s all in the past—”

“Yes, it was the cheat sheet that Zhuo Yuan asked me for. But I promised him, and I did it. It’s my own fault for being expelled. But it’s been ten years, everything has ended, and now talking about these things won’t change anything. I don’t want to recall those memories anymore, alright?”

“Wen Ke, I just feel—”

Han Jiangque looked up, a trace of heartache flashing in his eyes. He paused, “You shouldn’t be like this.”

“Then how do you think I should be?”

Perhaps the sorrow in Han Jiangque’s eyes wounded him because he felt a kind of unprecedented anger surging in his chest. He had never reacted like this, not even when dealing with Zhuo Yuan. But now, he couldn’t control himself.

He suddenly reached out and grabbed the collar of Han Jiangque’s shirt. His eyes turned red, and he spoke each word with emphasis, “Han Jiangque, how should I be?”

Han Jiangque’s thin lips moved slightly, but he didn’t speak. His eyes were pitch black, and all his emotions seemed to have restrained themselves.

But Wen Ke understood the unspoken answer from Han Jiangque.

In high school, he was the most outstanding student in the entire school. Even if his performance was off occasionally, he never fell out of the top ten in his class.

He never thought about going abroad. Although he could have applied for a scholarship, the main reason was that he didn’t want to be separated from Han Jiangque.

So, he had carefully planned to apply to N University, the Top 3 school. Although Han Jiangque’s grades couldn’t keep up, after being pushed to study by Wen Ke for more than two years, he could try applying to T University in the same city after Wen Ke’s enrollment. This way, they could continue studying in the same city.

Even the academically challenged and disobedient Han Jiangque was forced by him to bury himself in studying at that time.

At that time, they never thought of clarifying why they had to stay in the same city. They just thought they had to work hard, so they could be together—go to a big city, explore the vast world.

He used to be the one pulling Han Jiangque forward.

If he had known it would end like this, he would rather have not tried hard, not been outstanding, and never daydreamed of such a brilliant future.

If there were no dreams, at least when they shattered, it wouldn’t be so painful.

“You must be very disappointed. This person named Wen Ke is like this now. Didn’t go to college, has no career, and can’t even maintain a marriage. Achieving nothing. I know you don’t want to see me like this…”

Wen Ke shook violently, “I don’t want to see it either, I don’t want to.”

His anger diminished with his voice, ending in a weak murmur, “Why did you come to help me, Han Jiangque? Actually, I would rather you not come. Don’t you understand? I already said it in the LM Club that day. I just needed a little comfort, not S-level pheromones. But why did it have to be you who came.”

At the end, he lost confidence in himself.

He released Han Jiangque’s collar, even dejectedly smoothing out the wrinkles on the seemingly high-quality fabric.

Han Jiangque lowered his head, looking at him, and said seriously, “Because Miss Yu made the call for me that day.”

Wen Ke raised his eyes in surprise.

“Wen Ke, I’m not disappointed. I’m glad you divorced Zhuo Yuan.”

Wen Ke was a bit confused. Politeness aside, congratulating someone on their divorce seemed too strange. However, when Han Jiangque said it, it sounded so matter-of-fact.

“That day when I saw you, your complexion was terrible, and it seemed like Zhuo Yuan didn’t care much about you. I was very worried.”

Han Jiangque’s gaze stayed on Wen Ke’s face, “At night, I asked Miss Yu to call you. Knowing that you weren’t doing well, she originally wanted to find another Alpha from the club according to your previous wishes. I volunteered to rush over myself.”

“Why…?”

“I’m an S-level Alpha, and there’s no one in the entire LM Club with better pheromones than me. It would be more suitable for me to accompany you than anyone else.”

Han Jiangque explained seriously, but perhaps he knew that this answer didn’t truly address Wen Ke’s question. After a long silence, he finally said softly, “Wen Ke, I miss you.”

Wen Ke’s heart skipped a beat, and for a moment, he thought he had misheard.

Han Jiangque then kissed him.

But how could this be possible?

“Han Jiangque, you…”

Wen Ke spoke in a daze, unsure of what to say next.

“After you dropped out, I didn’t enroll in T University.”

Han Jiangque lowered his eyes, and his long eyelashes trembled slightly as he spoke, “For a long time, I was angry and lonely, so I messed myself up. My dad decided to send me abroad for study. I mean my Alpha dad. During those years abroad, I felt much better, and my life gradually returned to normal. Later, I found out about your whereabouts. You had moved with the Zhuo family to B City. So, after graduating from college, I decided to come back to B City. Wen Ke, I never thought about disturbing you, and I never expected you to divorce one day. In fact, all these years, I’ve always had a very simple thought—”

“I want to live in the same city as you. Just like we agreed in high school.”

He raised his head at this point, looking at Wen Ke with concentration, “B City is vast. If we don’t deliberately meet, we might never have the chance to encounter each other in this lifetime. But at least I know you’re here, experiencing the same weather, getting soaked in the same rain—this is good. I’ve kept our agreement.”

Wen Ke tried hard to open his eyes wide, but his expression was still bitter enough to cry.

He couldn’t help but wonder, Han Jiangque, what do you mean?

Ten years ago, he harshly despised him for not being a Beta but an Omega capable of going into heat and getting pregnant. Why would he want to keep a meaningless promise from their youth?

He really didn’t understand.
