I Only Want You chapter 49
The noise of fireworks startled Yan Lan, and he looked up at the dazzling fireworks in the night sky. After the fireworks disappeared, and the lake returned to calm, he regained his senses. He gazed at Xie Yun Zhi in front of him, and his figure was firmly imprinted in his eyes.
While Xie Yun Zhi asked verbally, “Are you willing?” he had secretly put the diamond ring on Yan Lan’s ring finger when Yan Lan was watching the fireworks. Holding Yan Lan’s hand, Xie Yun Zhi examined it from left to right, seeming quite satisfied.
“From the moment I got the ring, I imagined how it would look on your finger. Now that I see it, it’s just as I imagined. It suits you well, and the money spent was worth it.” After speaking, he raised Yan Lan’s hand and kissed the back of it and the fingers.
Yan Lan looked at his face, which was filled with an undisguisable smile. When Xie Yun Zhi finally looked at him, Yan Lan raised his right eyebrow slightly, as if saying he hadn’t nodded yet.
“If you nod now, it doesn’t matter. I’ve already put the ring on you. You’ve long been a member of our Xie family, whether you nod or not.”
Yan Lan’s lips curved slightly, and as Xie Yun Zhi wished, he nodded. Lowering his eyes, he looked at Xie Yunh Zi holding his hand tightly, attempting to withdraw it. However, as soon as he moved his wrist, Xie Yun Zhi, who had quickly noticed, held it even tighter.
“It’s windy at night, and your hand will get cold. I’ll hold it, and you won’t feel cold.”
Yan Lan smiled and didn’t try to pull his hand back, allowing Xie Yun Zhi to continue leading him along the lakeside.
“I’ve considered covering this place with roses and hanging lights.”
Yan Lan raised his eyebrows.
“But I don’t know why; I always feel you would be angry if I did that.”
Yan Lan nodded with a somewhat solemn expression. Yes, he would indeed be angry if Xie Yun Zhi covered the lakeside with roses. Not to mention the cost and trouble it would bring, he simply couldn’t accept such extravagant and wasteful ways of pursuing romance.
“I was afraid a proper proposal would upset you due to the extravagance. But with fireworks and the ring, I thought you would accept it. Now it seems the arrangement was indeed correct.”
Yan Lan nodded lightly, his right hand linked with Xie Yun Zhi’s arm, attentively and seriously listening to him.
“After you graduate, we’ll have a wedding. Let Tiantian be our ring bearer. But before that, we’ll live together. I feel the current house is a bit small; I want a bigger one.”
Is the current house really small?
“Tiantian’s toy room is almost full, and he will grow bigger. His current room is a bit cramped for him, and he has too many things.”
Yan Lan nodded slowly.
“Because it will be the house we’ll live in for a very long time, let’s choose it together.”
Yan Lan nodded again.
“I plan to put your name on the new house. As the owner, you should consider it seriously. I know you have a good relationship with your roommate, consider them as relatives. You can prepare a room for them, and when you all graduate, they can come over to stay overnight.”
Yan Lan felt a tremendous shock in his heart, and a sour sensation surged in his nose, almost bringing tears to his eyes. Even his vision was blurred by the sudden appearance of moisture.
“I also hope the new home has a studio for you. You can paint alone or with Tiantian. Although I can’t paint, I’m willing to be your model whenever you want to paint me.”
“I’ve mentioned that I want to enter the next stage of life with you. This is not just to comfort you or for fun. This idea appeared when we met Tiantian’s new Chinese teacher. I said you are Tiantian’s uncle, and later, I thought about marrying you. I want you to be a part of our family forever.”
Xie Yun Zhi held Yan Lan’s hand tightly, and the joints were turning slightly white. “Once the ring is on, there’s no way you can leave. Even if you have a change of heart, I will do whatever it takes to keep you. You should be clear about that.”
Hearing this, Yan Lan almost burst into tears because of the unstoppable laughter.
“I’m serious, not joking.”
Nine o’clock in the evening.
The security guard on night patrol passed by Building A for the third time and saw the young man sitting on the flower bed. He hesitated for a moment before approaching him.
“Young man, did you forget to bring your house keys? My colleague said you’ve been sitting here since noon.”
Yang Xiaole looked up at the security guard approaching him, “No, I’m waiting for my friend to come back.”
“Why don’t you call your friend? What if your friend doesn’t come back today? Are you planning to sit here all night?”
Yang Xiaole awkwardly shook his head, “My phone ran out of battery while I was playing, and I can’t make calls.”
“The security room has a power bank. If you need it, you can come with me to get it, charge your phone, and call your friend.”
“Thank you, but it’s okay. If he hasn’t returned by ten, I’ll leave. I don’t want to cause trouble for you.”
“If you need help, you can go to the security booth at the main gate. Someone is there all day.”
“Okay, thank you.”
After the security guard left, Yang Xiaole sighed at his lack of foresight. He should have brought a power bank with him. He was so bored in the afternoon that he didn’t pay attention to the time and kept playing with his phone until it ran out of battery and automatically shut down.
He wondered if Bian Xianyang had finished his work. If he didn’t come back, Yang Xiaole would have to leave.
Outside the gate of the community, a black business car quietly parked on the side of the road. Bian Xianyang put on a hat and a mask, got off the car, and sighed with a serious face. He put away his phone, which had received no response no matter how he tried to contact the other party. He had originally planned to meet Yang Xiaole today, but an unexpected change in the schedule brought the meeting forward. After a few hours of work meetings, he had to attend a dinner later with the director, producer, and others.
He was concerned about Yang Xiaole, but he had no chance to contact him until dinner. Unfortunately, no matter what he sent, there was no reply. Even the voice call was automatically disconnected due to overtime. At this point, he didn’t dare to expect the person to still be waiting for him, but the hope that the other person hadn’t left couldn’t be suppressed.
Therefore, he almost ran back home, almost as if he could see the figure sitting on the flower bed from afar. Yang Xiaole was peeling a tomato from a bag, wiping it with his clothes, and then putting it in his mouth.
Bian Xianyang slowly stopped and hid in a dark corner to secretly observe the person who was eating tomatoes. The more he looked at the bored and indifferent appearance, the more he felt that this kid was heartless. He had time to eat tomatoes but not to reply to him.
Bian Xianyang silently watched the figure by the flower bed for a while. He walked out of the hiding place and was noticed by the person holding the remaining half of the tomato.
“…You’re back?”
Bian Xianyang looked down at him condescendingly, “Why didn’t you reply on WeChat?”
Yang Xiaole slowly finished the last bit of the tomato, swallowed it, and replied, “My phone ran out of battery.”
“Why didn’t you borrow a power bank?”
“I didn’t want to bother others, and using someone else’s power bank for free doesn’t feel right. Plus, I didn’t want to pay for it.” Yang Xiaole stood up from the flower bed, patting his bottom with one hand, “I waited for you until my back and waist got sore. I’ll tell you, if the ice cream melted, it’s not my fault. It’s because you came back too late.”
Bian Xianyang said coldly, “I didn’t ask you to buy ice cream.”
Yang Xiaole bent over to pick up the heavy supermarket shopping bag next to him, “Then you can throw it away. If you don’t like it, throw away the whole bag, and I’ll pick it up later.”
Bian Xianyang just looked at him, not reaching out to take the shopping bag.
Feeling distressed, Yang Xiaole, who was already weak, couldn’t hold the bag any longer. As he loosened his grip, the bag fell heavily to the ground. Several large tomatoes rolled out of the bag, along with a slightly wilted celery.
“I left at ten in the morning to buy groceries for you. Afraid you might get hungry, I arrived at your building by twelve. But you said you had something and weren’t at home. I’ve been waiting for you. You tacitly allowed me to come, so I came.”
Bian Xianyang looked at the person in front of him, who was so distressed that he seemed to turn into water on the spot. Feeling a sense of congestion in his chest, he closed his eyes and explained, “I originally didn’t have work today. It wasn’t intentional to make you wait for me here… If I didn’t come back, why didn’t you just go home?”
Yang Xiaole’s voice was fierce, “Because I’m cheap!”
“…Do you want to argue?”
Yang Xiaole walked past him in silence, stooped to pick up the tomatoes that had rolled far away, and then retrieved the celery, putting them back into the shopping bag.
Bian Xianyang continued watching him, “I’ve been in meetings at the company all day because of the new album. I have a dinner appointment tonight with the director and other members. I did send you WeChat messages, but you didn’t reply.”
Yang Xiaole didn’t lift his head, “Got it, my bad. I’ll make sure to bring a power bank next time I go out.”
“I didn’t say it was your fault.”
Yang Xiaole tied up the bag and lifted it from the ground, “It doesn’t matter whose fault it is. I promised the security guard to leave by ten; I’m going back now.”
Bian Xianyang reached out and grabbed his arm, “It’s not yet ten, and besides, aren’t those things in the bag for me?”
“You don’t want them and It’s a waste of food, and you’ll be struck by lightning.”
“I didn’t say I didn’t want them.”
“You clearly don’t want them; you don’t even want the ice cream.”
“I didn’t say I didn’t want it. I just said I didn’t ask you to buy it.”
“Then take it!” Yang Xiaole pushed the bag towards him.
Bian Xianyang looked at the bag and said, “My hand hurts; I can’t lift it. Can you help me take it upstairs?”
Hearing that his hand hurt, Yang Xiaole immediately nervously looked at his hand, “Did you get injured?”
“I accidentally twisted it a bit.”
“Is it serious?”
Bian Xianyang lied with his eyes open, “Not serious, but I can’t lift heavy objects. The doctor said I have to be careful these days. Also, I’m hungry, and I want to eat tomato scrambled eggs.”
Yang Xiaole looked at him half-doubtfully, “Didn’t you eat before coming back?”
“No, I’m hungry.”
