I Only Want You

I Only Want You chapter 38

The three of them finished exploring the bookstore, and it was almost noon. After leaving their belongings in the car, Xie Yun Zhi asked the driver to go for lunch while he took Yan Lan and Tiantian to the nearest hot pot restaurant.

Yan Lan had a friend who was excellent at enjoying hot pot, Yang Xiaole. He even taught him that dipping shoe soles in the hot pot seasoning tastes good. Since Xie Yun Zhi and Tiantian were not proficient in seasoning, Yan Lan ordered two extra sets, making Tiantian’s less spicy.

Tiantian wasn’t very interested in hot pot. He was willing to eat shrimp balls and crab sticks, but when it came to other items, he would take a small bite if placed in his bowl, choosing to eat fruit-flavored shaved ice instead.

He especially loved fruit-flavored shaved ice, especially the chunks of mango and watermelon inside. He could eat two bowls of shaved ice that were even bigger than his face.

Yan Lan was puzzled, touching Tiantian’s belly, wondering where such a small body stored all the food.

Sitting opposite them, Xie Yun Zhi leaned on his hand, watching them, “Are you going to the company with me later?”

After some thought, Yan Lan shook his head, “It’s inconvenient for the driver to run back and forth, and Tiantian has afternoon classes. We’ll go home; you focus on work.”

Xie Yun Zhi looked at him intently, “There’s auntie at home.”

This statement carried a significant implication, suggesting that Yan Lan should come with him to the company, and that Tiantian would be taken care of by auntie.

Yan Lan hesitated for a moment, glanced at Tiantian beside him, and shook his head, “I’ll wait for you at home.”

When they finished eating hot pot and returned to the car, the driver was already waiting for them. Tiantian sat between Yan Lan and Xie Yun Zhi, playing with his new toy, a colorful coloring book.

After Xie Yun Zhi dropped them off at the home’s doorstep, he left for the company.

Tiantian woke up early that day, played outside for a long time in the morning, so he got tired shortly after returning home. Yan Lan accompanied him for a nap until around 2 pm. Then, Tiantian’s new Chinese teacher, Jiang Yi, came to visit.

It was her first time teaching Tiantian. The auntie warmly welcomed her, offering tea and a fruit platter, and explained, “Tiantian went out to play with Mr. Xie and Teacher Yan this morning. He got a bit upset when waking up from his nap, but he’s better now. Teacher Jiang, please have a seat.”

Jiang Yi nodded continuously, casting curious glances towards the staircase.

During her first interview, she learned from Secretary Lin that Tiantian had a strong personality and could even drive away teachers when in a bad mood.

Due to her somewhat shy personality, Secretary Lin thought she was too gentle. Afraid that she couldn’t handle Tiantian and might be bullied by him, she didn’t pass the first round of interviews, with Secretary Lin mentioning that they would reconsider.

Despite the high salary and easy workload, Jiang Yi missed the opportunity, feeling discouraged and couldn’t eat for two days. Just as she was preparing for another job interview, there was a sudden turn of events. Secretary Lin sent her a second-round interview opportunity, and this time, she would be interviewed by the child’s guardian.

It was clear that there was still a chance, a huge one!

Grateful to Yan Lan, Jiang Yi knew that Mr. Xie, who seemed very serious, wasn’t satisfied with her. If it weren’t for Yan Lan, she wouldn’t have had this chance.

After sitting in the living room for about ten minutes, a slender figure suddenly appeared upstairs, wearing light gray home clothes and smiling, beckoning to her.

Jiang Yi hurriedly stood up, picked up her backpack, and went upstairs.

Yan Lan explained to her and said, “Tiantian was too tired, got a bit upset after not sleeping enough during the nap, but he’s much better now. Teacher Jiang, you can start the class.”

Jiang Yi nodded, following him into a room. In a delicately decorated yet childlike study, there sat a little mixed-race child, crying with his head down. He looked delicate and beautiful, like a doll, with big teary eyes and tear marks on his chubby, unshrunken face.

Yan Lan walked up to Tiantian, wiping away the tears on his face tenderly, “Don’t cry; I just washed your face for you.”

Tiantian sniffed and didn’t shed more tears.

Yan Lan stood up, letting Jiang Yi sit. He then went out and brought back a hot towel to wipe Tiantian’s face.

Jiang Yi stared at Yan Lan, watching him take care of Tiantian meticulously. She gained a general understanding of the family’s indulgence toward the child.

Tiantian needed someone to coax him; he responded better to softness than firmness. Considering his usual temperament, if forced to attend class without having a proper nap, any teacher might end up with high blood pressure.

However, today, with Yan Lan’s coaxing, Tiantian managed to control his temper and didn’t trouble Jiang Yi.

The two-hour Chinese class ended at around 4:30 pm. After the class, Jiang Yi assigned some homework to Tiantian and left without staying longer.

Xie Yun Zhi came home from work around five o’clock, not empty-handed. He carried a box from a cake shop.

Yan Lan welcomed him at the entrance, took the box, and kissed him on the corner of his mouth.

Xie Yun Zhi kissed him back, “I bought you some small cakes: chocolate, matcha, tiramisu, and soufflĂ©. Try them and see which one you like the most.”

Yan Lan smiled and nodded.

“What about Tiantian?”

Yan Lan pointed to the person sitting on the sofa in the living room, playing Mario Kart.

Xie Yun Zhi changed into indoor shoes, walked over, and touched Tiantian’s little face to get his attention, “Do you want to eat a small cake?”

Tiantian instantly paused the game, following Xie Yun Zhi to the dining room.

Yan Lan got a piece of matcha cake, Tiantian had chocolate, and Xie Yun Zhi had tiramisu. Xie Yun Zhi’s was a soufflĂ©.

“How was Tiantian in class today? Did he bully the new teacher?”

Yan Lan shook his head, “No, he cried a bit after waking up from the nap at noon, but he got better quickly.”

Looking at Tiantian, who was focused on eating cake, Xie Yun Zhi suddenly said, “How nice it would have been if I had met you earlier.”

Yan Lan laughed, “Our reunion isn’t considered late.”

With a sigh, Xie Yun Zhi said, “Every time you’re here, I can’t help but think about when you’ll move in and live with us. I want to see you every day.”

Yan Lan rested his chin on the table, looking at him.

Raising an eyebrow, Xie Yun Zhi asked, “Why are you looking at me like that?”

Yan Lan just lowered his eyes and smiled.

After dinner, Xie Yun Zhi accompanied him back to the art institute. When he left, there was a pendant hanging on the zipper of his canvas bag. It had a small printed swallow the size of a coin, and the back was engraved with the character “Yun.”

“Custom-made.” Xie Yun Zhi helped him put it on and nodded in satisfaction. “It looks much better than any stars or moons.”

Yan Lan also liked it and couldn’t help reaching out to touch it.

When the car reached the south gate of the art institute, he kissed Xie Yun Zhi after he pushed the car door open, preparing to get out. However, with one foot out of the car, he suddenly noticed two people in the dim shadows near the south gate.

At this time, there were no people coming in or out of the south gate of the art institute. It was quiet. The two people were standing in a very hidden and inconspicuous position, making it unlikely to be easily noticed.

However, Yan Lan happened to notice. Besides having good eyesight, another important reason was that he was very familiar with one of the two people.

Familiar to the point that, in the instant he saw them clearly, he withdrew the foot that was about to step out of the car, closed the car door, lowered the window, and all his actions were completed in one go.

Among the two people, one had a slender figure, graceful like a willow, with long chestnut-colored curly hair, wearing gray sportswear, exquisite makeup, dazzling and charming – this was Yang Xiaole, also known as Nana!

Why would Nana appear here?! If she’s here, who is the other person? Could it be Bian Xianyang?!

Unconsciously holding his breath, Yan Lan stared fixedly at the two people hidden in the corner, trying hard to see clearly whether the person facing Nana, with only a side view, was Bian Xianyang.

His strange reaction naturally caught Xie Yun Zhi’s attention. He leaned against Yan Lan’s back and asked, “what’s wrong? Is there something outside?”

Yan Lan tilted his head, making space for him, and pointed outside to the person standing under the tree in the distance.

Xie Yun Zhi had excellent vision. Although the lighting was dim, he immediately saw, “Isn’t that your roommate?”

Yan Lan nodded and pointed in that direction again, letting him see the other person.

Xie Yun Zhi squinted his eyes and tried hard to see, “I don’t know the other person, but judging from the atmosphere… that person seems to want to kiss your roommate.”

Yan Lan was surprised, widening his eyes, turning to him as if asking, “How do you know?”

“If he holds the hand of your roommate.”

Yan Lan did see that, but does holding hands mean wanting to kiss?!

“He and your roommate are standing face to face. Both hands came out of their pockets and grabbed each other’s wrists. If it were me doing this to you, my next move would definitely be to kiss you.” After Xie Yun Zhi finished speaking, he lowered his head and pecked Yan Lan’s lips.

Yan Lan pursed his lips, not quite believing what he said, sitting upright and almost pressing his face against the car window, looking outside. After a while, he watched the faces of those two people stick together.

Xie Yun Zhi raised his eyebrows, “I told you he wanted to kiss your roommate.”

Yan Lan stared at the two people with a serious expression. Yang Xiaole and the person he didn’t know were getting more intimate. Yang Xiaole seemed a bit unstable, and the person in all black let go of Yang Xiaole’s hand and instead hugged his waist, pulling him closer.

Xie Yun Zhi withdrew his gaze and looked at Yan Lan, “Doesn’t the fact that your roommate comes out dressed as a woman indicate that the person who wants to kiss him doesn’t know that he is actually a man?”

Yan Lan nodded slowly.

“Let’s wait first. Wait until that person leaves, and then you can go out.”

Fifteen minutes later, the person in all black, wearing a stacked hat, finally left, and Yang Xiaole was still standing in the same place.

Yan Lan pushed open the car door only after that person walked far away, got out of the car, and walked quickly towards the figure under the tree.

Obviously, Yang Xiaole had already noticed that Xie Yun Zhi’s car was there. He stood still, waiting for Yan Lan to come over.

As expected, when he saw Yan Lan, he was not surprised at all. From the dim shadows under the trees, he walked out slowly without waiting for Yan Lan to take out his phone to type. He spoke on his own.

“It’s Bian Xianyang.” Yang Xiaole lightly licked his somewhat swollen lips. “Sorry, I didn’t tell you. I’ve been in contact with him privately. He just came to give me tickets.”

Yan Lan looked at him with a worried expression.

“Momo, don’t look at me like that. He was the one who said he liked me first.”

Yan Lan took out his phone and typed: You’ve broken your rule for him. You never used to dress up as Nana outside of holidays.

“It’s okay, he didn’t notice.”

Yan Lan: You are Lele, not Nana.

“I know.”

Yan Lan: You already like him.

“Just a little bit. Why would I kiss him if I didn’t like him?”

Yan Lan: But he doesn’t know that you’re Lele!

“Those people before didn’t know either.”

Yan Lan: You didn’t like those people before, and you wouldn’t kiss them.

Yang Xiaole was silent for a moment. “Don’t worry; I know what I’m doing.”
