I Only Want You chapter 34
The next day, in preparation for the meeting with Tiantian’s new Chinese teacher in the afternoon, Yan Lan deliberately tidied up. He put on the yellow-colored shirt jacket that complemented his fair skin, making him look spirited and much more attractive.
Yang Xiaole couldn’t help shaking his head as he looked at him. “This is unfair to us, Mr. Xie.”
Yan Lan couldn’t help but laugh at his tone.
Yang Xiaole reminded him, “Shouldn’t you bring the keychain?”
After some thought, Yan Lan nodded and attached the keychain to the zipper of his canvas bag.
At four o’clock in the afternoon, Yan Lan walked out of the south gate and saw the black Bentley that came to pick him up.
The driver was already familiar with him, and as soon as he got in the car, he handed him a paper bag from a cafĂ©. “Mr. Yan, this is the afternoon tea Mr. Xie asked me to buy for you.”
Yan Lan took it and opened it, finding a cup of iced latte and a fist-sized mango cream puff inside.
As Xie Yun Zhi was still at the company, the new Chinese teacher for Tiantian would go directly to the company to meet him. Therefore, the driver naturally took Yan Lan to the headquarters of Venus Jewelry located in the city center.
When Yan Lan passed by this place before, he was often captivated by the dazzling headquarters building of Venus Jewelry. At that time, he could never have imagined that he would walk in here one day.
Assistant Xiao Zhang had been waiting for him in the underground parking lot since early on, and he escorted him to Xie Yun Zhi’s office located on the top floor.
“Mr. Yan, Mr. Xie is still in a meeting. You might have to wait for him a bit.”
Yan Lan nodded quietly, standing in the corner of the elevator.
The elevator ascended directly from the parking lot to the very top. With a ‘ding,’ the clean and minimalist office area made a strong impression.
It was larger than Yan Lan had imagined, with fewer employees. He could only see a few heads buried in work.
“Mr. Yan, this way.”
Yan Lan withdrew his gaze and followed Xiao Zhang until he pushed open the door to an office.
“This is Mr. Xie’s office. Mr. Yan, please go in and wait.”
Yan Lan hesitated for a moment but still walked in. Xie Yun Zhi’s office had his personal touch, simple and concise, fitting the image of a “CEO’s office.”
A spacious area featured a floor-to-ceiling window along one wall, a set of black leather sofas, and a large writing desk. There was nothing superfluous.
When Yan Lan first entered, he felt a bit awkward, unsure where to place his hands and feet. After standing still for a while, he finally walked over and sat on the edge of the sofa, quietly waiting.
After more than ten minutes, the office door was finally pushed open. Xie Yun Zhi, dressed in a black suit, walked in. As soon as his eyes met Yan Lan’s, the cold expression on his face instantly softened into a warm smile.
Yan Lan had just stood up from the sofa when Xie Yun Zhi, who had approached quickly, hugged him tightly.
“Sorry for making you wait, Yan.” Xie Yun Zhi turned his head and kissed him on the lips.
Yan Lan glanced at the several people who had come in behind Xie Yun Zhi, his cheeks slightly flushed. He felt a bit embarrassed to show affection in front of so many people.
“I still need to work a bit more. Once I’m done, I’ll let the new teacher in, and we’ll meet her together.”
Yan Lan nodded, sat back down, and watched Xie Yun Zhii walk towards the desk. The warm and friendly expression he had when facing Yan Lan turned cold again. The deep eyes revealed a serious and steady demeanor, exuding an imposing presence.
In work mode, Xie Yun Zhi looked exactly like what outsiders might imagine him to be, but he didn’t quite match the Xie Yun Zhi in Yan Lan’s memory.
Yan Lan never liked the distant look Xie Yun Zhi sometimes had, as the Xie Yun Zhi he had seen when he was still a teenager didn’t make people feel distant at all.
After about ten minutes, the number of people in the office gradually decreased. Xie Yun Zhi put down the things in his hands only when the last person left. He turned the chair around, facing Yan Lan, and patted his thighs.
“Come here.”
Yan Lan obediently got up and walked over. He sat on Xie Yun Zhi’s lap, and his arm hooked around Xie Yun Zhi’s neck.
“This color suits you so well, like a little yellow duck, cream yellow.” Xie Yun Zhi said while burying his face in the crook of Yan Lan’s shoulder, gently smelling his scent and feeling his warmth.
Yan Lan, looking puzzled, with a flushed face, asked, “Why a little yellow duck?”
“I just thought of a little yellow duck, not a bath toy, a live one. Have you seen it? It’s fluffy and very cute.”
Yan Lan raised an eyebrow slightly.
Smiling, Xie Yun Zhii kissed him. “I’m complimenting you. This bright color suits you well. I’ve never seen you wear a similar color before.”
Yan Lan pulled his hand away. Because I didn’t buy this.
“Not your purchase?”
Yan Lan nodded. “It’s a gift from someone else.”
Xie Yun Zhi was slightly surprised. “From your roommate?”
Yan Lan shook his head.
Seeing Yan Lan’s puzzled expression, Xie Yun Zhi stood up, holding his wrist, making him twirl around like he was dancing. The more Xie Yun Zhi looked, the more uneasy he felt because the clothes fit perfectly. Unless someone knew Yan Lan’s size, it wouldn’t be easy to buy such a well-fitted piece.
“Who gave this to you? That junior brother of yours?”
Yan Lan nodded and turned around, picking up the canvas bag from the sofa, showing him the hollow star-shaped pendant hanging on it. “This is also a thank-you gift for participating in their performance act.”
In Xie Yun Zhi’s eyes, this reason seemed far-fetched. Not to mention that the freshman welcome party was before the October holiday, so even if it were a thank-you gift, it shouldn’t take this long to deliver it. The so-called thank-you gifts themselves were also highly questionable.
Whether it was the symbolic pendant or this perfectly fitting piece of clothing, everything seemed to exude an inexplicable ambiguity.
This feeling was something Xie Yun Zhi was sure wasn’t just his imagination, and it couldn’t be just overthinking.
As if not realizing Xie Yun Zhi’s peculiar silence, Yan Lan put down the canvas bag, casually tidied the sleeves of his clothes, and gestured with sign language, expressing his satisfaction: I really like it. You said it looks good, and Lele also said it looks good.
“I didn’t say it looks good.”
Yan Lan looked at him strangely. You clearly said it just now.
“I said it suits you, not that it looks good. Besides, I don’t think it suits you that well now.” Xie Yun Zhi’s face darkened with some anger. “Are you trying to get back at me?”
Yan Lan looked puzzled. Why would I want to get back at you?
“Are you retaliating because I didn’t throw away the belt Jinni gave me before?”
Yan Lan shook his head.
“Why then? Why would you wear clothes given by another man to meet me?” Xie Yun Zhi asked.
Yan Lan: It’s just a gift between friends, a token of gratitude.
Xie Yun Zhi looked at him sternly, finding the clothing more and more glaring.
“Take it off.”
Yan Lan shook his head in refusal.
Xie Yun Zhi’s brows furrowed even tighter. He reached out to embrace him, but Yan Lan, who had sensed it, deftly dodged. Not only did he dodge, but he also turned around and ran. Without realizing it, Xie Yun Zhi chased after him.
The two of them ran around the sofa, with Yan Lan running and Xie Yun Zhi chasing. After two laps, Xie Yun Zhi always narrowly missed catching him.
The highly private and spacious office provided Yan Lan with the perfect space. He was as agile as a fox, running around without worrying about knocking things over. He used the desk and sofa to maneuver around Xie Yun Zhi.
But soon, he was caught.
Xie Yun Zhi nonchalantly embraced him, sat down on the sofa, and efficiently took off his yellow-colored jacket. He casually tossed it aside and hugged him tightly, preventing him from picking it up.
Yan Lan was a bit angry and pinched his ear.
Undeterred, Xie Yun Zhi allowed him to do so, lying on top of him. “If you’re still angry, just hit me. Don’t use this method to make me upset.”
Yan Lan rolled his eyes at him, trying to retract his hands. However, Xie Yun Zhi, who noticed it, held him even tighter.
“If you’re trying to annoy me, I won’t let you go.
Yan Lan pulled back, trying to free his hands, Xie Yun Zhi, instead of loosening his grip, held on tighter.
Yan Lan rolled his eyes at him and stopped struggling. He tilted his head, closed his eyes, and pretended to be asleep on the sofa.
Xie Yun Zhi leaned over to kiss his face and the corner of his mouth. “I admit my mistake. Don’t treat me like this.”
Yan Lan remained indifferent with his eyes closed.
“In the future, I won’t accept gifts from anyone except you and Tiantian. Even if it’s a gift I must accept, I’ll bring it back for you to handle. I won’t make you angry again.”
Yan Lan slowly opened his eyes and moved his arm. Xie Yun Zhi followed his strength and released the hand he had held tightly, pulling him to sit up.
Yan Lan straightened his somewhat disheveled clothes, glanced at him, and said, “I didn’t mean it that way.”
“I know I should have dealt with it earlier. I didn’t know it was such an uncomfortable thing for you.” Xie Yun Zhi, like someone suffering from skin hunger, had an irresistible need for physical contact with Yan Lan. He always wanted to touch him after just a few sentences.
Remembering the main business, Yan Lan raised his hand to block him: “We haven’t met Tiantian’s new teacher yet.”
Xie Yun Zhi looked at his wristwatch. “You’re right. I’ll have Lin Secretary bring her in.”
While Xie Yun Zhi went to call Secretary Lin, Yan Lan tidied up the clothes and sofa a bit. He picked up the jacket that had been thrown on the sofa and was about to fold it neatly when Xie Yun Zhi walked back in and snatched it away.
“I’m confiscating this.”
Yan Lan looked at him, amused, “This is new. Don’t throw it away.”
“I won’t throw it away. I’ll donate it to whoever wants it.” Xie Yun Zhi was about to hide the jacket when he suddenly remembered something. He bypassed Yan Lan and grabbed his canvas bag, taking off the hollow star pendant. “Confiscated as well.”
Yan Lan helplessly and amusingly watched him walk away, as if wary that he would snatch it away.
Xie Yun Zhi placed the clothes and pendant in the corner of the desk and handed a paper resume to Yan Lan. “Secretary Lin interviewed her, and she has the best qualifications among all the candidates. But according to Secretary Lin, her personality may not be able to control Tiantian.”
Yan Lan took a look at the resume. The photo attached showed a girl with delicate features, tied with sheephorn braids. She looked youthful, almost like a student, and, like Yan Lan, she was mute.
“Just looking at this photo, I probably understand why Secretary Lin said she might not be able to control Tiantian.”
As soon as he finished speaking, there was a knock on the office door.
“Come in.”
Lin Secretary responded, pushing the door open and leading in a petite girl who still exuded a student vibe.
Jiang Yi was polite, bowing slightly upon entering and greeting with a shy sign language saying hello.
Yan Lan responded with a hello, and Xie Yun Zhi nodded. “Jiang Teacher, feel free to sit. Do you want water or coffee?”
Jiang Yi waved her hand, pointing to the bag she was carrying: “I brought my own.”
“Alright, please allow me to give a brief introduction. I am Tiantian’s legal guardian and uncle, Xie Yun Zhi, and this is my partner, Yan Lan. Today, we invited you for another round of interviews to confirm if you can take on the position of Tiantians Chinese teacher.”
Upon hearing this, Jiang Yi’s eyes lit up, and she nodded.
“I believe you should have learned about Tiantian’s basic situation from Lin Secretary. He is a deaf-mute child who cannot hear or speak and can be a bit mischievous. Although I did not explicitly request, I hope that you can be strict because only strictness can control him. Otherwise, he might end up bullying you.”
Jiang Yi nodded slowly.
Xie Yun Zhi looked at Yan Lan, who was sitting beside him. Suddenly, an idea struck him. “Do you, Tiantian’s uncle, think she is suitable for the position?”
Yan Lan was momentarily stunned.
At that instant, Jiang Yi’s eyes gleamed as she looked at him, conveying, “I can do it! Please give me a chance!”
Suppressing the urge to cover his face, Yan Lan smiled and nodded in agreement.
Xie Yun Zhi, whether intentionally or thinking it sounded good, continued, “In our family, everything is decided by him. Since he has agreed, if you have no issues, we can sign the contract.”
Jiang Yi happily nodded.
“Lin Secretary, you can draft the contract now.”
With Secretary Lin and Jiang Yi out of the office, Yan Lan turned his head to look at Xie Yun Zhi, who was acting as if nothing had happened. “Tiantian’s uncle?”
