Evil Love Appears chapter 94
Xu Jiale originally thought that after tossing and turning all night, whatever he had eaten, which caused his discomfort, would have passed by morning. But it turned out not to be the case.
The next morning, he felt slightly better and decided to eat some plain rice porridge and side dishes to ease his condition. However, he ended up vomiting again after just a few bites.
He couldn’t go on like this.
On his way to the hospital by taxi, Xu Jiale’s mind was preoccupied with the thought that he couldn’t bear it anymore. What was even scarier than vomiting was that once thoughts of regretting the breakup began to surface in his mind, his yearning for Fu Xiaoyu became overwhelming, tormenting him every minute and every second.
He couldn’t bear it.
During this thought process, he couldn’t tell whether he felt despair or relief.
Upon arriving at the hospital, it quickly became evident that he had acute gastroenteritis. The doctor scolded him while writing prescriptions. It was clear that given his condition last night, he should have gone to the emergency room much earlier. Delaying it by a day had only worsened the situation, and he would need three days of intravenous treatment.
Xu Jiale was alone in the hospital, and he realized that it had been years since he had received an injection. After the needle was removed, he found himself gazing at the small bandage on his hand.
He thought about Fu Xiaoyu curled up in the hospital bed, facing away from him, with only one hand peeking out from under the blanket—a thin layer of skin with faint blue veins underneath it. It was a hand that he desperately wanted to hold.
Xu Jiale lightly touched his own hand, and for a moment, it was almost comical how he felt like he was touching the hand that Fu Xiaoyu had just had an injection in.
Xu Jiale took a deep breath, put on his coat, and walked to the other building of the hospital.
This was the same hospital in the northern district where Murong Jingya had arranged for his surgery. Although the surgery was scheduled for the following morning, Murong Jingya had already completed his admission procedures that day, including some preliminary tests.
A moment ago, Xu Lang had called Xu Jiale and explained the situation. During the call, Xu Jiale hadn’t mentioned that he was currently in the hospital, just that he had returned from Vietnam and would come to visit later.
Of course, Murong Jingya had a top-tier private room.
As Xu Jiale approached, he coincidentally ran into several of Murong’s closer subordinates in the hallway who had come to visit him.
“Mr. Xu, you’ve come too,” Murong Jingya’s secretary, Liu, politely greeted him. “Mr. Xu’s inside keeping Mr. Murong company, so we didn’t want to disturb him. We’ll visit Mr. Murong the day after tomorrow.”
“Alright, thanks.”
Xu Jiale nodded, exchanged greetings, and continued walking inside.
His steps were slow, and as he walked further, he became a bit hesitant. By the time he finally reached the door of Murong’s ward, he suddenly noticed that the door was slightly open, likely due to the wind.
Standing outside and looking in, the scene inside the ward appeared strangely elongated. He couldn’t see Murong Jingya’s face, only his hand resting on the bed, and Xu Lang’s narrow back.
“Xu Lang, I just spoke with Dr. Xing again.”
Because of the distance, Murong Jingya’s voice was somewhat muffled, and Xu Jiale had to take another step forward.
“What did he say?”
“Dr. Xing said that the surgery itself is minor, and there’s no need to overthink it. Based on the imaging, the smaller nodule is hardly worth considering. As for the larger one to be removed, he also believes it’s almost certainly harmless.”
“The other experts share the same opinion,” Xu Lang took an orange from the bedside table and began peeling it, speaking as he did. “So, we don’t need to worry too much.”
“I’m not worried,” Murong Jingya paused and then continued, “But there is still a chance… You understand what I mean, right? There is still a possibility it might be cancer. My father… he passed away from lung cancer, as you know.”
Murong Jingya’s voice was always low, but when he spoke of such things, it sounded somewhat like an omega, devoid of any emotional fluctuations.
Xu Lang didn’t respond immediately and because it was too quiet, Even the sound of the wind and the rustling of the orange peel in the hallway seemed extraordinarily clear.
Through the slightly open door, Murong Jingya’s hand on the edge of the bed lifted soundlessly. It paused in the air for a few seconds before tightly gripping Xu Lang’s hand.
Xu Jiale stood there, frozen outside the door.
His view was limited, which made the act of peering even more intense.
For so many years, it seemed that he had always deliberately avoided scenes where Murong Jingya and Xu Lang were together. Thus, in this moment, he felt strangely alienated and nervous.
Xu Lang put down the orange, then reached back to hold Murong Jingya’s hand.
After a while, he softly said, “Jingya, don’t be afraid.”
“Alright,” Murong Jingya immediately responded, his tone resolute.
“Regardless of the outcome, I’ll be here for you.”
Xu Lang’s reply was a bit vague.
Even though Murong Jingya’s tone was so resolute, his response was slow and somewhat gentle, carrying a hint of warmth, “Do you want to eat an orange?”
“…Just a little,” Murong Jingya replied in a low voice.
At that moment, a gust of wind swept through the hallway, pushing the ward door open with a creak.
Xu Jiale didn’t waste time; he immediately imitated someone who had just pushed the door open and stepped in.
“Xiao Xu is here,” Xu Lang turned to Xu Jiale, removed his glasses, and smiled.
“You came, and you didn’t even knock?” Murong Jingya spoke nonchalantly, retracting his hand from under the blanket and raising his head somewhat displeased.
“The door wasn’t closed properly.”
Xu Jiale pulled a chair from the side and sat down next to Xu Lang, slightly farther from Murong Jingya. His voice was hoarse as he asked, “Surgery tomorrow morning?”
“Yes,” Xu Lang looked at Xu Jiale with a touch of unconcealed worry in his eyes. “Xiao Xu, are you unwell? What’s bothering you?”
It was clear that Xu Jiale’s condition had deteriorated to the point where it couldn’t be ignored.
At the same time that Xu Lang was speaking, Murong Jingya, who was leaning against the bed, had already evaluated Xu Jiale from head to toe. He finally caught sight of the bandage on his hand and couldn’t help himself.
“What happened to you, exactly?”
“Gastroenteritis, just had to get an IV.”
“That’s not what I’m asking.”
The anger in Murong Jingya’s eyes intensified. “You have been absent-minded, and in the middle of the night, you suddenly went to Vietnam, and now you’ve returned in such a wretched state. Xu Jiale, what’s going on with you? You’re an adult, but you can’t take care of yourself after a breakup?”
When this omega was angry, his mouth and the corners of his eyes dropped, and his anger carried a certain authority.
“Hey…”
Xu Lang reached out to pull Xu Jiale, and then whispered to Murong Jingya, “Don’t be like this. The kid is in a bad mood and is sick. That’s enough.”
Murong Jingya was still angry, but in front of Xu Lang, he managed to suppress it.
Truly angry, he turned away, speaking coldly, “Xu Jiale, if you’re really this incapable—anyway, no matter what, if you can’t live without that omega, then think about what other solutions you have. We have so much money in the family to give you more options in life, not to see you attempting to harm yourself over a breakup.”
Xu Jiale’s mouth twitched, but surprisingly, he didn’t retort. Perhaps at any other time, he would have mocked Murong Jingya for thinking that money could solve all problems. However, at that moment, Murong Jingya’s cold words somehow didn’t feel as sharp.
He didn’t know if it was because of his weakness during his illness, but he could faintly sense the intention behind Murong Jingya’s words.
Although they were filled with disdain and frustration, they also seemed like a form of care, mixed with helplessness.
“Xiao Xu,”
Xu Lang signaled him with his eyes, “Shall we go?”
Xu Jiale remained silent, following Xu Lang out of the ward. After walking a few steps, he whispered softly, “Let’s go outside. Jin Chu is about to bring the child; he has plans to meet a few old friends in the evening and asked me to take Nanyi.”
“But you’re sick, aren’t you? You should rest tonight, and I can take care of the child.”
Xu Lang poured a cup of warm water for Xu Jiale in the tea room and then held the paper cup as they walked to the parking lot.
“No need, I’m feeling much better now.”
After waiting for seven or eight minutes, Jin Chu arrived with Nanyi.
“Daddy!” Nanyi rushed into Xu Jiale’s arms as soon as he got out of the car. “I heard you went to Vietnam! Was it fun? Did you bring me some delicious snacks?”
Jin Chu, on the other hand, inspected Xu Jiale from head to toe. “Jiale, are you okay?”
“I’m fine; I just had an upset stomach yesterday.” Xu Jiale held his little treasure tightly, his voice muffled. “You can go catch up with your friends.”
“Well…” Jin Chu hesitated for a moment and then whispered to Xu Jiale, “I’ll go check on Uncle Murong inside before I leave.”
“No need,” Xu Lang added, “He’s probably resting, and you can’t say anything at the moment. Come back tomorrow.”
“Alright. That works,” Jin Chu seemed relieved. “Okay, Uncle Xu, I’ll be going now. I’ll come back tomorrow.”
After Jin Chu left, Xu Lang bent over to pick up Nanyi and gave him a couple of kisses.
Xu Jiale held the cup of warm water and took a sip. His throat felt very dry, and he had another sip. Unable to hold back any longer, he spoke softly, “Dad.”
As the word “Dad” left his lips, the inflection of his voice quivered slightly.
He hadn’t called Xu Lang “Dad” for a long time.
“I understand, Xiao Xu.” Xu Lang held Nanyi’s hand, and with his other hand, he patted Xu Jiale’s back. He whispered, “It’s not about the money, I understand. Let’s sit in the nearby park and talk.”
