Evil Love Appears chapter 47
“I’m coming to see you, okay?”
Xu Jiale kept staring at these words, holding his forehead. He typed and deleted the phrase “I’m fine, no need” several times without ever sending it. He didn’t know why he couldn’t send it.
But what he was sure of was that, for someone running a fever, this kind of indecision was a physical torment.
Perhaps the constant “typing” indicator on WeChat had given the other person a sense of something. After waiting for two or three minutes, his phone vibrated again.
Fu Xiaoyu: I’ll be there in a little over half an hour.
The tone of this omega at the moment carried the assertiveness of planning during a work meeting.
It seemed like he no longer allowed Xu Jiale to say “no.”
Okay.
Suddenly, Xu Jiale felt a sense of relief, like a burden had been lifted. He replied with “okay” and then collapsed onto his bed.
He lay there for half an hour, checking the time on his phone after opening his eyes, only to find that Fu Xiaoyu was running late, which was quite unusual for the punctual and rigorous omega.
He continued to lie there drowsily for more than ten minutes until the vibrating phone finally woke him up.
“Hello?” Xu Jiale, as he spoke, realized that his throat was almost too hoarse to speak.
“I’m at your doorstep.”
“Alright.”
Xu Jiale struggled to get up and pressed his tousled hair down in front of the mirror. He used mouthwash and then put on a gray hooded sweatshirt before opening the door.
“Xu Jiale,”
Fu Xiaoyu stood at the door, his breath slightly hurried. “I’m here.”
Xu Jiale leaned against the door frame and didn’t speak for a moment.
The tall omega stood in the early spring night, perhaps due to rushing out, wearing just a loose white tee that exposed his delicate collarbones.
Fu Xiaoyu’s fair skin had a charming glow, and the orange light from the streetlamp shone on his face, making his eyes almost translucent amber.
Xu Jiale didn’t know if it was because he was delirious from the fever, but in that moment when Fu Xiaoyu looked at him with concern and said, “I’m here,” Xu Jiale felt his heart racing because he was witnessing an unparalleled beauty.
“Are you okay?” Fu Xiaoyu was somewhat worried, taking a step closer and lifting the plastic bag in his hand. “I bought you congee, mushroom and chicken congee, the same one you ordered last time, and I added an egg.”
Fu Xiaoyu even remembered what Xu Jiale had ordered the last time he was at home.
“Th-thank you.” Xu Jiale stammered nervously, “You came to bring me congee so late. I don’t have anything serious; I just have a cold. Two days of rest, and I’ll be fine. I already applied for sick leave on DingTalk earlier.”
After a pause, he finally reached out to take the plastic bag and said softly, “Fu Xiaoyu, thank you. It’s so late, you should, um, go back. You have work tomorrow…”
Of course, this was meant to be a polite refusal.
Fu Xiaoyu stood there watching him, momentarily taken aback.
Fu Xiaoyu rushed to bring him congee, and yet he didn’t even invite him inside. Xu Jiale knew just how inappropriate his behavior was.
But at this moment, he couldn’t care less about what was appropriate.
He was cursing his past self half an hour ago. Didn’t he realize the implications in that WeChat message?
Why did he have to bring the battleground to a face-to-face confrontation? Why didn’t he just tell Fu Xiaoyu directly: he didn’t need him to visit, he didn’t want him to visit.
“Achoo!”
Just in this tense moment, a gust of night wind blew, and Xu Jiale suddenly turned around and let out a loud sneeze.
“Sorry,” Xu Jiale felt a bit embarrassed. The unexpected sneeze had interrupted his refusal, and he had to go back to the living room to get a tissue. When he returned, he wiped his nose vigorously.
He must have looked quite disheveled with his red nose. Just when he was about to continue, Fu Xiaoyu, who had been silent, suddenly spoke, “Xu Jiale.”
“Hmm?” Xu Jiale raised his head, only to see the round eyes of the omega gazing at him.
It was hard to describe the look in those eyes: focused, earnest, tinged with a hint of excitement, like the bloodthirsty moment of a carnivore about to launch an attack.
Honestly, Xu Jiale was somewhat at a loss.
“I really like you,” Fu Xiaoyu said, looking into his eyes, without any evasion.
Fu Xiaoyu was so brave, and his cheeks turned slightly pink from this blatant confession, but he didn’t stop there; he took another step forward.
The distance between them was suddenly only a few centimeters.
Fu Xiaoyu whispered, “Xu Jiale, I want to pursue you.”
Bang—
…
Xu Jiale clung to the door frame, as if it were his only source of support.
Those few seconds of silence felt incredibly long to him.
But he couldn’t just let himself be caught.
He seemed to be thinking a lot, and yet not thinking of anything at all. Finally, he said, “Fu Xiaoyu, it’s not possible.”
The air seemed to thicken, and Fu Xiaoyu gazed at him in astonishment.
His eyes were so wide that it was hard for him to conceal his emotions.
Xu Jiale could clearly see that instant of disappointment and uncertainty on Fu Xiaoyu’s face, but it quickly turned into determination.
This omega wasn’t retreating.
Xu Jiale had to grit his teeth and say, word by word, “I really can’t agree to this.”
“Why?” Fu Xiaoyu stubbornly asked. “I’m the one pursuing you, you don’t even need to like me now. Just agree to let me pursue you, and you can leave the rest to me.”
“Fu Xiaoyu…”
This conversation was making Xu Jiale’s voice tremble. He tried to maintain his usual stance of having the upper hand, calmly saying, “I understand that your heat was a beautiful experience, and if you can think of it that way, it’s an honor for me.”
He paused for a moment before continuing, “But you need to understand that maybe it was the beauty of that experience, combined with the illusion created by the first sexual encounter, and the subsequent events, that led to you mistakenly interpreting your feelings of dependence and attachment as affection. But it’s not, these feelings are temporary, and they will dissipate.”
Even though he was skilled at reading emotions, Xu Jiale found this statement extremely difficult to make, as if he were not only persuading Fu Xiaoyu but also himself.
At the moment he said, “they will dissipate,” the omega standing in front of him showed a faintly heartbroken expression and tilted his head slightly.
This made Xu Jiale’s tone suddenly weaken, and he was, for the first time, somewhat disgusted with himself. He said softly, “Don’t be foolish, Fu Xiaoyu.”
“I’m an alpha who’s divorced with a child. I’m at the lowest point in my life, the worst time of my life. An omega like you wanting to pursue me…”
His headache was pounding; he chuckled self-deprecatingly. He wanted to lighten the atmosphere with some self-mockery, but he couldn’t help but cough again. “It’s almost like giving away something for nothing, isn’t it? You can’t do this, Fu Xiaoyu.”
“Xu Jiale,” Fu Xiaoyu suddenly spoke, “The feeling of liking you… won’t fade.”
He said this sentence lightly, but each word was sincere.
“Xu Jiale, I like you, not because of that one time we were intimate. Yes, it was incredibly wonderful, and if possible, I truly want a sexual relationship with you, one that can develop and be sustainable. But sex isn’t everything.”
Fu Xiaoyu’s speech was slow, and when he talked about sex, his words were somewhat clumsy. But that clumsiness was incredibly charming. “A sexual relationship that can develop and be sustainable,” made Xu Jiale unable to resist hanging on every word.
“Before I met you, the only thing in my life was a sense of achievement, progress in my career, or completing a project, which made me content with myself. That was the best feeling I’d had before. But, Xu Jiale, when I’m with you… Xu Jiale, for the first time, I knew what happiness felt like. I didn’t need to make much effort or be outstanding. I didn’t even need to achieve anything. Just sitting with you on a dirty, abandoned pirate ship, doing nothing…”
“I’m pursuing you because you’re the only alpha who has given me this kind of happiness so far. What about you?”
Fu Xiaoyu’s voice was soft, and a bit tremulous from anxiety. “When you’re with me, don’t you feel happy at all?”
Xu Jiale’s heart was shaking.
He had once told this omega to be honest with his feelings. Now, the same question was before him.
And him?
Could he really be completely honest?
“Your hand…”
In an attempt to avoid answering, Xu Jiale averted his gaze but happened to see a bandage on Fu Xiaoyu’s index finger. “What happened to your finger?”
“It got burned,” Fu Xiaoyu said, bowing his head to examine his finger. “I burned it when I was cooking the congee.”
“Let me see.” Xu Jiale cautiously reached out and peeled off the bandage on Fu Xiaoyu’s finger. He noticed a large blister underneath and instinctively blew on it. Suddenly, he remembered something. “Didn’t you buy the congee?”
“I initially cooked it myself and even added Parma ham, but I overcooked it, and it tasted awful, so I threw it all away.” Fu Xiaoyu spoke softly. “Later, I bought it from outside for you, that’s why I arrived a bit late.”
Xu Jiale suddenly felt his nose tingling.
Fu Xiaoyu was so foolish.
How could there be such a foolish omega?
Since he had cooked the congee himself, and even burned his finger in the process, he should have brought the congee to him no matter how bad it tasted, telling him, “I made this myself.”
Xu Jiale sat down on the steps at the door, plastic container in hand. He fiercely tore open the disposable chopsticks and then began eating the chicken and mushroom congee, taking large spoonfuls.
Fu Xiaoyu quietly sat beside him, watching him eat, even though he looked a bit disheveled.
Xu Jiale almost finished half the bowl in one or two minutes, using the spoon to pick out a mushroom. While watching it, he suddenly couldn’t contain himself and muttered, “I’m happy too.”
The moment he spoke those words, Xu Jiale thought about the night in Shuncheng.
In the small KTV room, as he sang “Wu Ren Zhi Jing” or “Desert Island” he could see Fu Xiaoyu watching him with unwavering attention from the corner of his eye.
The bright, infatuated eyes of the omega were so intense that he had to close his eyes.
He couldn’t lie to himself anymore, nor could he deceive Fu Xiaoyu.
Xu Jiale’s voice, nearly drifting away with the wind, “I’m uncertain about many things, and I worry about… “
But Fu Xiaoyu interrupted him. “I’m the one pursuing you, Xu Jiale. Pursuing means the ending is unknown. I don’t want you to bear any responsibility. My only request is that you don’t let me intrude into someone else’s feelings. If someday you want to return to Jin Chu…”
Xu Jiale’s mind went blank. The high fever had made him dizzy, and for the first time in his life, he was thoroughly at a loss.
All his rational thoughts told him that this journey would be dangerous and full of turbulence if he agreed to be “pursued.” He didn’t know what lay ahead in life.
In this world, there is no such thing as a one-sided “pursuit.” If the one being pursued has no intention, then the game cannot be played. Once he agreed to be “pursued,” it essentially meant he was also in love with this omega.
“Xu Jiale, I’ve been an adult for so long, but I’ve never been in love before. This is the first time I’ve wanted a relationship so badly, and you are the person I want the most. Let me pursue you, can I?”
As Fu Xiaoyu said this, he almost bet everything on it as he tightly held Xu Jiale’s hand, his eyes burning with a flame.
To hell with it.
Xu Jiale had once told Fu Xiaoyu to learn how to say “to hell with it,” but ironically, this was the first time he had said these four words to himself in his life.
To hell with it. Tonight, he didn’t want to think rationally anymore.
“Okay.”
He said.
“Xu Jiale!”
Fu Xiaoyu excitedly pounced on him, knocking over the bowl of congee to the side. He was eager to kiss him like a little lion, “I will treat you well, truly.”
“Don’t…” Xu Jiale weakly resisted, pressing Fu Xiaoyu’s head against his chest, saying helplessly, “I have a cold. Do you want to catch it?”
He said so, but after hugging him tightly for several seconds, he couldn’t help but kiss the back of Fu Xiaoyu’s head.
This time, Fu Xiaoyu hadn’t used any cologne; he carried the distinct scent of magnolia. It was a spring night, and everything was so fragrant.
