Evil Love Appears chapter 40
That evening, Xu Jiale was busy building blocks with Nanyi.
Although Nanyi was a boy, he was a loyal fan of Disney princesses. A few days ago, he had picked out the Lego set for Princess Elsa’s Ice Castle in a store.
The Lego set cost over 700 yuan, and Xu Jiale and Nanyi were on the floor, feeling dizzy from assembling it.
His phone was right next to him, but whether it was WeChat or DingTalk, it hadn’t made a sound all evening.
Around five in the morning, he received a message from Jin Chu saying they’d be arriving in B City in the afternoon.
Xu Jiale slept lightly, and after seeing the message, he couldn’t fall back asleep.
He kissed the forehead of the little one sleeping beside him and, after getting up to freshen up, changed the cat litter for Xia’an. He then went to the balcony to get some fresh air.
The winter predawn felt like the middle of the night, with only a few scattered stars in the sky, and a thin layer of ice on the road outside the balcony.
It was almost Chinese New Year…
Xu Jiale vaguely remembered that in late autumn, he had been awakened by a drizzle and had stood on the balcony smoking in the middle of the night.
At that time, just a few months after returning to China, he often suffered from insomnia and often lazed around at home, but in order to avoid the loneliness of being alone, he had to go out for dinner with his friends before nightfall.
After the divorce, he had initially become lazier and more indifferent
But after joining the “Love app” company and adding Fu Xiaoyu on DingTalk, everything changed.
Fu Xiaoyu was an omega who was diligent and with optimum efficiency. No one could be listless under Fu Xiaoyu’s supervision. Xu Jiale had to get up and go to work properly every day, work diligently most of the time, and occasionally compete with Fu Xiaoyu.
His life had gradually become more fulfilling, albeit reluctantly.
So much so that Xu Jiale suddenly realized that the Xu Jiale who had smoked himself hoarse one cigarette at a time due to insomnia in the autumn, had become a distant memory.
As dawn broke, people began to appear on the streets.
Xu Jiale shook his head, turned back into the room, put Fu Xiaoyu’s shirt and pants in dustproof bags, and then called a car to go to Fu Xiaoyu’s place.
He was going to take Nanyi out later, so it made sense to pick up the Tesla first and then deliver Fu Xiaoyu’s clothes.
When Xu Jiale arrived at the Junya Apartments where Fu Xiaoyu lived, it was still quite early. He sent a message to Fu Xiaoyu, initially intending to wait for a response for a while because there was no rush. However, he was surprised when Fu Xiaoyu replied quickly, saying, “I’ll be right out.”
After three or four minutes, Fu Xiaoyu, wearing a milky-white sweater and fluffy slippers, walked to the side of the driveway and opened Xu Jiale’s car door. “Thank you.”
“No problem,” Xu Jiale said, handing over the dustproof bags.
Fu Xiaoyu looked a bit weary. His fair complexion made the dark circles under his eyes more pronounced when he didn’t get enough sleep.
Fu Xiaoyu didn’t make direct eye contact with Xu Jiale, took the dustproof bags, and walked back into the house. “Wait a moment; I’ll bring the bags out for you.”
Xu Jiale originally wanted to say it wasn’t necessary, but he thought about it and realized that leaving a dustproof bag at Fu Xiaoyu’s place, where things were unclear, wasn’t necessary. So, he leaned against the car and waited patiently.
He didn’t have to wait for long before he heard hurried footsteps.
When Fu Xiaoyu returned, he didn’t have the dustproof bags but held a phone to his ear and a black coat in his hand, looking serious. “Okay, wait for me, Wen Ke, I’ll be right there.”
As he spoke, he was about to walk toward the garage, but Xu Jiale stopped him by calling out to him. “What’s going on with Wen Ke? Where are you two going?”
“We’re going to B University,” Fu Xiaoyu hung up the phone.
“Why are you going to B University at this time? Is something wrong?” When Xu Jiale heard the word “B University,” his nerves inexplicably tensed.
When Fu Xiaoyu raised his head, his round eyes hesitated for a moment, as if he were considering whether to speak or not.
In the cold wind, Xu Jiale didn’t show any intention of moving aside to let him drive. The two of them held their positions for about three seconds.
In the end, Fu Xiaoyu took a deep breath and said softly, “Wen Ke and I are going to check the surveillance footage from the day of the ‘ Love app’ campus event.”
“That day, Zhuo Yuan actually went to B University.”
He paused and lowered his voice even more, “Xu Jiale…we suspect that Zhuo Yuan may have done something to cause my heat to start suddenly.”
Fu Xiaoyu ultimately didn’t drive his own car.
Because, after hearing what he said, Xu Jiale directly pulled him into the Tesla and drove towards B University.
On the way, Xu Jiale didn’t say a word, except to call Amon and instruct him to take Nanyi out for breakfast. He was driving with a heavy heart.
Wen Ke had arrived earlier.
When Fu Xiaoyu and Xu Jiale got out of the car, Wen Ke was already waiting at the school gate, and Han Jiangque’s bodyguard, Jiang Chao, was standing behind him.
At the sight of Wen Ke, Xu Jiale realized that something was wrong; Wen Ke’s complexion was too pale.
This was completely unacceptable.
After all, after the “Love app” campus event, their fame had suddenly skyrocketed. This should have been a brilliant moment for Wen Ke’s career. However, even though he was wrapped in a coat, he looked as though he might collapse at any moment.
“Xiaoyu…”
“Wen Ke, Han Jiangque hasn’t answered my calls either.” Fu Xiaoyu, not waiting for Wen Ke to speak, anxiously said.
The two of them were still in a somewhat awkward semi-cold war phase, and since Fu Xiaoyu had quit the IM Group’s business, it wasn’t surprising that they didn’t contact each other much.
But it wasn’t until this morning when Wen Ke told him he hasn’t been able to contact Han Jiangque for several days that he truly began to worry.
On their way over, Xu Jiale has remained silent, while Fu Xiaoyu had been busy calling Han Jiangque, but the result was that they made more than twenty calls, but the alpha never answered.
Xu Jiale listened to the side, and in an instant, he caught the word “either” and frowned, saying, “Wen Ke, are you okay? Han Jiangque didn’t answer your call?”
Wen Ke’s face turned pale, and for a while, he couldn’t speak.
“Did you have a fight with him?” Xu Jiale’s tone became heavy, and his displeasure was evident.
He actually knew that Wen Ke and Han Jiangque had a big quarrel a while ago.
These two people had an extremely precious childhood love relationship, but even after they got back together, there were still insurmountable obstacles in their relationship.
The obstacle was none other than Zhuo Yuan.
Wen Ke’s life had been dimmed for a whole decade because of a failed marriage. But just as he was eager to shake off all the dust of his unworthy past and move forward, Han Jiangque, out of deep-seated hatred, lost his reason and tried everything in his power to get back at Zhuo Yuan.
Xu Jiale had also asked Wen Ke about the situation before, but Wen Ke had not said anything. It wasn’t until today that Xu Jiale realized that the problem between these two had reached this level.
However, regardless of everything, an alpha had actually gone missing at a crucial time when an omega’s body was getting bloated. This made Xu Jiale feel angry.
“It’s okay,” Wen Ke reluctantly forced a smile and said in a hoarse voice, “Xiaoyu has already told you, right? Let’s look at the surveillance footage first. That’s the most important thing.”
Xu Jiale took a deep breath, and then turned to look at Fu Xiaoyu again.
Looking at the surveillance footage sounded like a trivial matter, but it was actually a difficult task that required professionals.
On the day of the event, with a large crowd of people, it was not easy to find Zhuo Yuan from the crowd. Fortunately, there were professionals on site. Following Wen Ke’s bodyguard, Jiang Chao, they directly told the security guard not to check the surveillance footage at the event site but to check the surveillance footage at the entrances nearby.
They quickly found something when checking the footage.
Two surveillance cameras near the B university auditorium had coincidentally malfunctioned. This included Zhuo Yuan intercepting Wen Ke at the parking lot and another camera near a hidden storage room.
A malfunction in the surveillance cameras meant that someone didn’t want others to see what happened in that area.
“Let’s go check the storage room.”
The group rushed to the small storage room next to the auditorium.
“It’s just a storage room,” the security guard seemed puzzled by their actions. After unlocking the door with a key, he mumbled, “The auditorium always has events, so they always prepare mineral water, tissues, and stuff like that for the guests. There’s hardly anyone coming here on a regular day.”
When the warehouse door was opened, a gust of dust filled the air.
Xu Jiale stood at the front, brushing away the dust with his hand and then followed Jiang Chao inside.
The room was dimly lit, and you could vaguely see a pile of cardboard boxes in the corner. In the middle were several desks put together, with dozens of bottles of mineral water on top.
These bottles of mineral water appeared to be relatively new and didn’t seem to have collected any dust.
On the surface, it really seemed like an ordinary storage room.
The group turned around the storage room and found nothing.
After a few minutes, the impatient security guard couldn’t help but urge, “Are you done looking?”
After all, it was quite frustrating to have gone through all this trouble without finding anything. There were no leads, but just as they were about to leave, Fu Xiaoyu, who had been silent the whole time, suddenly didn’t look right.
“Wait a minute.”
He walked quickly to the desk in the middle and picked up a bottle of mineral water.
It was a bottle of BaiShanShui that appeared unremarkable.
However, when he touched the texture of the bottle, a familiar and unusual sensation surged in Fu Xiaoyu’s heart again.
But Fu Xiaoyu’s expression was exceptionally serious, and he turned to the security guard, saying, “Is this the mineral water that the school provided us with during the love app event a few days ago?”
“Yes, whenever there’s an event in the auditorium, the necessary supplies are stored here.”
“Thank… Thank you.” Fu Xiaoyu’s voice was hoarse as he said to the security guard, “Could you please step outside for a moment? We need to discuss something.”
Xu Jiale had already realized what was happening. After the security guard left, he locked the door tightly and went to Fu Xiaoyu. He took the bottle of water from Fu Xiaoyu’s hand.
When their fingertips touched at that moment, Xu Jiale felt that Fu Xiaoyu’s hand was very cold.
But Fu Xiaoyu didn’t notice his actions and instead gazed at Wen Ke, asking, “Wen Ke, did you drink their water during the event? Did you open your bottle of mineral water?”
“What?” Wen Ke couldn’t keep up with Fu Xiaoyu’s train of thought and looked a bit bewildered.
“This is very important.”
“I…,” Wen Ke closed his eyes and thought carefully. His expression was very serious, and after about a minute or two, he confirmed, “I didn’t open it. The student receptionist handed me the water, and I was about to open it, but before I could, my stomach started hurting severely. Yes, I’m sure I didn’t open their water, let alone drink it.”
Suddenly, Fu Xiaoyu lightly touched the table with his hand.
It was clear that for a moment, he almost lost his balance, but he quickly regained extreme composure and slowly said, “Wen Ke, that day, I drank the water from your bottle. On that day, when I was opening the mineral water bottle, I noticed that the white tablecloth underneath the bottle had already become slightly wet. My memory is clear; I was a bit puzzled at the time – where did the water come from? BaiShanShui bottles are sealed tightly, so they shouldn’t leak like that. I had a vague suspicion about this, and it wasn’t until today—”
“The water bottle was tampered with.”
At the same time as Jiang Chao said these words, Wen Ke nearly fell to the ground.
“I’m sorry…” Wen Ke unable to stand firmly, looked at Fu Xiaoyu, his face pale, and said in a hoarse voice, “I’m sorry, Xiaoyu.”
“Wen Ke, I’m fine.” Fu Xiaoyu was also taken aback and almost reached out to hold the swollen omega.
Xu Jiale, on the other hand, instinctively rushed forward, firmly grabbing Wen Ke as he collapsed.
“Wen Ke!” When he firmly held Wen Ke’s waist, the entire storage room suddenly filled with a strong scent of mint pheromones.
The pheromones of an A-level alpha, suddenly becoming violent due to emotional instability, was a rare occurrence. Even Jiang Chao, who was also an alpha, stepped back in pain. Not to mention the two omegas, Fu Xiaoyu and Wen Ke, who involuntarily choked on the pungent scent.
Of course, this sudden surge of oppression was far from considerate. However, at this moment, the usually gentlemanly and poised alpha seemed completely unaware.
“Fu Xiaoyu…”
Xu Jiale’s mind was in chaos. “You were drugged.”
His throat seemed to be scorched, and he was hoarse. “You were drugged by Zhuo Yuan, which is why you suddenly went into heat, right?”
