Don’t Ignite It chapter 65

I’m Ready, Anytime

Ten minutes later, in the living room, Xia Yu and Lu Zhao sat together, while Xu Zhan sat opposite them as they had breakfast together.

Although all three of them were good-looking, their personalities were completely different.

Xia Yu couldn’t help but feel awkward when he thought about the scene just now.

At this table, his current boyfriend was sitting next to him, and his ex-husband was sitting across from him… Any unsuspecting passerby would probably think he was a charming troublemaker with some extraordinary talent for attracting love and trouble.

Surprisingly, Xu Zhan seemed calm and composed.

He took a sip of coffee and said to Lu Zhao, “The last time I saw you was in a bar. I didn’t expect to meet like this again. You and Xia Yu have made it official, and I’ve become the ex-husband.”

“Well, thanks to you,” Lu Zhao’s gaze was mocking, with a hint of indifference towards his romantic rival, “if you hadn’t changed sides, I wouldn’t have had this opportunity.”

Xia Yu discreetly kicked Lu Zhao under the table.

Xu Zhan, on the other hand, remained composed. After a few days of emotional turmoil, he seemed to have recovered from his heartbreak and appeared nonchalant.

“That’s true,” he looked at Xia Yu and smiled at Lu Zhao, “so you should treat him well and not make him miserable.”

This statement, spoken by an ex-husband to his ex-partner’s current boyfriend, sounded a bit strange, as if Xu Zhan still had lingering feelings for Xia Yu.

But Lu Zhao looked at Xu Zhan and could only see sincerity in his eyes, despite his own bias. Xu Zhan had the appearance of a gentleman, warm and gentle like jade.

Lu Zhao glanced at Xia Yu, who was biting the tip of his chopsticks and blinking his eyes, and Xia Yu smiled back at Xu Zhan.

Their demeanor didn’t seem like that of a recently divorced couple.

For a moment, something flashed in Lu Zhao’s mind but then responded,

“I will, of course,” he said.

After breakfast, Xia Yu wanted to go home for a while. Lu Zhao knew he wanted to visit Xia Jin, so he didn’t intend to interfere.

“What about you? Are you going home?” Before leaving, Xia Yu secretly asked Xu Zhan, “Why don’t you come to my place?”

He was worried that Xu Zhan hadn’t forgiven Xu Ping yet.

Xu Zhan shook his head. “I’m going back to my apartment on Yunan Road,” he hesitated for a few seconds before speaking softly, “Qin Sheng is coming back today.”

Xia Yu was stunned. “so…?” He looked at Xu Zhan with concern. “Have you told him about everything you know?”

Xu Zhan shook his head. “No, I haven’t said anything. But I plan to talk to him today.”

Xia Yu couldn’t help but grab Xu Zhan’s hand. “Do you want me to go with you?”

“No need,” Xu Zhan’s voice was a bit dry. “What role would you play if you went with me? My ex-husband? A friend? Besides, this is a matter between me and Ruan Sen. We need to resolve it ourselves.”

Xia Yu understood that Xu Zhan had a point, but he still pursed his lips, feeling uneasy.

But Xu Zhan seemed determined, and Xia Yu didn’t say anything more. He only said, “Just let me know if you need anything.”

“Okay.”

The three of them left the hot spring courtyard where Xia Yu and Xu Zhan had stayed for a few days, heading in different directions.

Xia Yu took the opportunity to drop Lu Zhao off at his company.

When they arrived at Lu Zhao’s company building, Xia Yu glanced at the towering structure in front of them and said, “Normally, you’re the one who drops me off. It’s a rare occasion that I get to drop you off.”

He turned and smiled at Lu Zhao, but he noticed that Lu Zhao had been staring at him, lost in thought.

“What’s wrong?” Xia Yu touched his face. “Do I have something on my face?”

“No,” Lu Zhao hesitated for a moment. “I was just thinking… you and…”

You and Xu Zhan didn’t quite look like a couple who had just broken up.

But he quickly stopped himself, unfastened his seatbelt, and leaned over to give Xia Yu a kiss on the cheek. “See you tonight.”

Xia Yu was a bit puzzled, but he didn’t dwell on it. He waved to Lu Zhao through the car window and then drove back home.

Xia Jin was still at in their old house. When he saw Xia Yu return, he didn’t seem surprised. He was standing by the pond, feeding the fish. He released a handful of fish food into the water, and the koi immediately swarmed around to eat.

Xia Yu approached his brother and called out gently, “Brother.”

Xia Jin gave him a sidelong glance. “You finally decided to come back?”

From his tone, Xia Yu knew that his brother had no intention of scolding him.

He leaned his head on his brother’s shoulder, just like when he was a child, and acted spoiled. “I’ve always wanted to come back, but I was afraid you wouldn’t want me to.”

He mumbled, “But now I know, Brother, you won’t abandon me.”

Xia Jin patted his head with the hand that had just been feeding the fish.

He said, ‘Actually, I wanted to scold you once, to teach you a lesson to not fall into the same pit again. But then I thought, isn’t it just about falling in love… What’s the big deal?’

He gently pressed Xia Yu into his embrace.

‘Even if you really love the wrong person, what does it matter? With your big brother here.’

With your big brother here.

From childhood to adulthood, Xia Jin has said this phrase the most, from signing test papers that Xia Yu messed up to putting aside ongoing projects to bring back his troublesome little brother from abroad.

Xia Yu’s nose tingled.

He buried himself in his big brother’s embrace like a koala, and it took a lot of effort to hold back his tears.

‘Thank you, big brother.’

Although Xia Jin agreed to Xia Yu’s relationship with Lu Zhao, he still didn’t quite like Lu Zhao.

He went to change the bird food in the cage absentmindedly and said, ‘Why don’t you just move back home? Since you and Xu Zhan are divorced now, although your relationship isn’t bad, staying in the house where you used to live together feels a bit awkward. You can do whatever you want at home, and I don’t care about your dates with Lu Zhao, but Lu Zhao is not allowed to come over. I get annoyed when I see him.’

Xia Yu didn’t have any objections.

The house where he had lived with Xu Zhan was a place they both didn’t want to sell, but he wanted to renovate it. Currently, he hadn’t found a suitable place to live, so it worked out well.

But going on dates with Lu Zhao under the watchful eyes of Xia Jin and their parents… Xia Yu thought it would be a bit too much.

However, Xia Yu honestly replied, ‘I understand.’

In the evening, Xia Yu told Lu Zhao about his conversation with his big brother.

Lu Zhao accepted Xia Jin’s request without hesitation.

After all, if he had a lovable little brother like Xia Yu, he would never be as accommodating as Xia Jin. He would be a thousand times more overbearing.

‘You moving back would be great,’ he said.

Xia Yu flipped through an art magazine with his phone, feeling a bit puzzled, ‘Great for what?’

It was certainly great for him, but what was the benefit for Lu Zhao?

Lu Zhao whispered, ‘I want to pursue you again, to pick you up for dates at your house, send you back before curfew, watch you walk into the garden, and eagerly anticipate our next meeting, as if making up for the university years we missed.’

Xia Yu’s flipping hand paused.

Indeed, they rarely had this kind of date.

‘You’re right, you owe me a lot and you need to make up for lost time,’ Xia Yu said softly, but he soon smiled again, ‘So, when are you planning to pick me up?’

‘I’m ready, anytime.’
