Don’t Ignite It chapter 53

First Kiss

After talking about his divorce, Xia Yu felt a bit uncomfortable, as if the weapon he had always used to resist Lu Zhao had been taken away from him. This made him pout and feel a bit awkward.

But Lu Zhao kept kissing him.

The kisses were tender and intimate, without any dominance, as if he liked Xia Yu so much that he didn’t know what to do. He lightly kissed his cheeks, the tip of his nose, and finally landed on his lips.

The kiss was so lingering that by the time Xia Yu came to his senses, he couldn’t help but respond to Lu Zhao.

Xia Yu, panting, murmured, “You’re too good at cheating.”

Lu Zhao didn’t understand what Xia Yu meant.

Xia Yu thought that Lu Zhao had always been lucky, always appearing at the right moment and taking advantage of the circumstances.

On his birthday, Lu Zhao had borrowed some luck to propose to him.

At that time, he hadn’t really wanted to accept Lu Zhao’s proposal. He didn’t consider himself a lucky person, so where could he find the extra luck to lend to Lu Zhao? But now, they were still embracing each other.

Xia Yu muttered, “If you hadn’t shown up by the fountain today, I might have been more ruthless towards you. I wouldn’t have agreed to you so quickly, and I wouldn’t have told you about the divorce.”

But, unfortunately, Lu Zhao had appeared at the right time.

At the moment when he needed Lu Zhao the most, Lu Zhao had come.

Just like many years ago when he was sick and upset, Lu Zhao, who had always been cold and aloof towards him, suddenly appeared like a knight in shining armor outside his apartment.

Maybe others could do it too.

Perhaps those who pursued him were willing to make such sacrifices for him, but only Lu Zhao had appeared at the right moment.

Lu Zhao kissed Xia Yu’s forehead again. “Then I should thank that place.”

Xia Yu chuckled at his words.

He looked at Lu Zhao with a teasing glint in his eyes. “Is that so? But that’s also where Xu Zhan proposed to me.”

He had deliberately chosen that place to tell Xu Zhan about the divorce. It was the starting point and the ending point of their relationship.

Lu Zhao hadn’t expected that.

In his heart, he still felt disgusted with Xu Zhan and wished that he didn’t exist, but when he heard Xia Yu mention Xu Zhan’s proposal, his instinctive reaction wasn’t jealousy.

He hesitated for a moment, his fingers stroking Xia Yu’s temple.

He asked, “When you agreed to Xu Zhan’s proposal, did you ever think of me?”

He asked gently, as if afraid to disturb the moonlight outside the window.

He had never asked such a question before. One reason was that he knew he didn’t have the right, and the other was that Xia Yu probably wouldn’t give a serious answer.

But he had always wanted to know.

Xia Yu hesitated for a moment.

How could he not have thought about it?

At that time, his mind was filled with Lu Zhao.

The sunlight outside the window was so beautiful, the long wooden lattice fence outside was adorned with beautiful hydrangea flowers, and everyone in the cafe was making a fuss, teasing them to get married.

And Xu Zhan in front of him was gentle and a bit shy, but his smile was warmer than the sunshine.

Everything was perfect.

This was the future he should hold onto.

But when he took the ring, he couldn’t help but think, what was Lu Zhao doing at this moment?

Had Lu Zhao found the right person to marry? Would he treat that person well and accompany him or her to choose a ring?

He thought about it a lot, but it seemed like only a moment had passed, and he quickly calmed down. He raised his head and said to Xu Zhan, “yes, I will marry you.”

“Actually, I did think about it,” Xia Yu didn’t lie. His voice was calm, without any deliberate attempt to provoke Lu Zhao. “I was wondering if you had found a suitable person to marry when I was getting married. When I held the wedding, I wondered if you were getting married too.”

He had really thought that way.

But then he felt that the scene was too ridiculous. He and Lu Zhao, who had shared a bed for three years, didn’t have the fate to enter into marriage together. It would be even stranger if they both got married in the same month.

He looked at Lu Zhao and continued, “At that time, I hadn’t forgotten about you, but Xu Zhan knew. However, he never asked me to do anything. He just stayed by my side.”

Lu Zhao heard the subtext.

When he agreed to marry Xu Zhan, he hadn’t forgotten about Lu Zhao, but three years of marriage was enough for Xia Yu to learn how to forget.

He gently pressed his forehead against Xia Yu’s.

He whispered, “Actually, when I took you to the hospital, I regretted it. At that time, I thought you were too naive, not suitable for marriage. But at the same time, I thought, maybe marrying you wouldn’t be bad. We had spent three years together, and spending a lifetime together wasn’t impossible. But I was too stubborn, and I didn’t know how to compromise until then. I arrogantly thought that you would wait for me forever, just like in the past three years.”

But at that moment, Xia Yu didn’t wait for him.

When he had later finally made up his mind to talk to Xia Yu about their future, he received a wedding invitation from Xia Jin with the names “Xu Zhan & Xia Yu” on it.

It had been three years since then, and it was the first time Lu Zhao had revealed his feelings at that time to Xia Yu.

But what he didn’t say was that when he was at the hospital entrance, Xia Jin had rushed over and punched him, telling him to stay away from his younger brother.

He still remembered Xia Jin’s disgusted look as he said, “You stay as far away as possible from Yu Yu. Even if you change your mind, I won’t let Yu Yu marry you. You’re just an idiot, a lunatic who doesn’t know how to love. Yu Yu has never been happy with you. Breaking up with you now is only three years of pain for him. If he doesn’t break up with you, he’ll be miserable for a lifetime.”

He didn’t fight back.

Because he thought Xia Jin was right.

So, he didn’t enter Xia Yu’s hospital room that day, but turned and left.

But now, he said to Xia Yu, “I can’t make up for the past six years, but we’ll have many, many more years ahead. I won’t let you regret choosing me.”

He may not yet be the person who can fully match Xia Yu’s love.

But he can learn.

As a lifelong mission, make Xia Yu feel happy every day.

Xia Yu didn’t speak.

He leaned against Lu Zhao’s chest, as if falling asleep, but after a while, he softly murmured, “Mmm.”

Xia Yu thought he wouldn’t sleep well that night, after all, a lot had happened that day.

But the fact was, he slept soundly buried in Lu Zhao’s arms, and when he woke up the next day, the room was already bright, the curtains were half open, and the room was bathed in sunlight. Lu Zhao quietly watched him.

Xia Yu subconsciously touched the corner of his mouth, thankfully, he hadn’t drooled.

“What time is it?” he asked Lu Zhao, still groggy.

“It’s past ten.”

Xia Yu was surprised and reached for his phone. It indeed showed 10:49.

He had slept almost until almost noon.

Xia Yu lay back on the pillow, feeling like he could really sleep, but fortunately, he didn’t have any urgent work that day, and no one could deduct his boss’s salary.

He asked Lu Zhao, “Why are you still here? Aren’t you going to work?”

Unlike him, a lazy individual freelancer, Lu Zhao, the workaholic, never let anything stop him from going to work, and there was no such thing as leaving early, only overtime.

Lu Zhao, holding Xia Yu’s hand under the blanket, said, “I’m taking the day off today.”

Xia Yu made a soft sound of disapproval, knowing that Lu Zhao had taken the day off solely because of him.

He turned his head and glanced at Lu Zhao. The curtains in the room were probably opened by Lu Zhao, and the winter sunlight made everything warm, even their hearts.

He lifted his head and pecked Lu Zhao’s cheek, his voice still carrying traces of sleepiness, soft and soothing, like feathers brushing against Lu Zhao’s heart.

“Good morning, boyfriend,” he said, even though it was almost noon.

Lu Zhao instinctively tightened his grip on Xia Yu’s hand.

This was also the first time he had become someone’s boyfriend. Before meeting Xia Yu, he had never been in a deep relationship with anyone. When Xia Yu confessed to him back then, Xia Yu had wanted to date him, but he had foolishly rejected him.

Now, six years had passed, and he had finally obtained the boyfriend status that had been within reach all along.

He smiled and said, “Shall we get up for lunch, boyfriend?”

Lunch was definitely on the agenda, as the chefs at Lu’s house were always excellent.

After lunch, Xia Yu was feeling lazy and didn’t go to the art gallery. Instead, he cuddled up with Lu Zhao to watch a movie. Lu Zhao’s house had a spacious home theater with excellent viewing quality. With the heavy curtains drawn, it was impossible to tell if it was bright and sunny outside.

They were watching an old movie, “Sophie Marceau’s First Kiss.”

Xia Yu quite liked Sophie Marceau, the French rose, with her clear and enchanting eyes and a smile that had a seductive charm.

But today, he wasn’t in the mood to appreciate Sophie Marceau’s beauty.

The movie was halfway through when Xia Yu and Lu Zhao started kissing.

Xia Yu was still wearing a loose white robe because the room was warm. The robe was made of light silk, like cool water, and easily slipped off his shoulders.

In the home theater, there was only a faint light emitted by the screen, tinted with a slight blue hue, casting a veil of mystery over Xia Yu’s face.

His eyelashes fluttered gently as his fingers trailed down from Lu Zhao’s throat.

Lu Zhao propped himself up with his elbows, his back against the edge of the table, letting Xia Yu sit on his lap and do as he pleased.

In the movie, the young boy and girl kissed each other, their inexperience reminiscent of lemon tree blossoms, yet their sweetness akin to syrup about to flow.

Xia Yu’s fingers undid Lu Zhao’s shirt buttons. He was no longer a teenager, far from the inexperienced youth who had pursued Lu Zhao.

He was now proficient, like a natural-born seductress who knew how to captivate, his fingers lightly pressed against Lu Zhao’s chest, as if playing a sonata on piano keys.

Lu Zhao’s breathing grew heavier, and Xia Yu demanded that he stay still. Lu Zhao was forced to maintain his composure, but his eyes clearly conveyed what he wanted to do to Xia Yu.

Their surroundings seemed to grow cramped, hot, and humid, as if they were suddenly transported to the banks of the Mekong River. The sun evaporated the water mist, enveloping them in heat and moisture, making their hearts sticky.

But Xia Yu didn’t want Lu Zhao to be satisfied so quickly.

His palm pressed against Lu Zhao’s chest, feeling his strong heartbeat.

He leaned down slowly, giving Lu Zhao a kiss, then smiled nonchalantly and asked in a low voice, “How old were you when you had your first kiss?”

He wasn’t jealous, just reminded of the topic by the movie. He knew that Lu Zhao’s first love was him, but he didn’t think Lu Zhao’s first kiss had also been with him.

It was normal for young boys and girls in their adolescence to share a curious kiss under moonlight. They often had summer camps, dances, and other activities back then. He had witnessed such young couples often, but not every pair ended up as lovers.

So he was curious if Lu Zhao had ever hidden with someone in a garden to experiment with a kiss.

“Be honest,” he said.

Lu Zhao blinked his eyelashes and replied, “I kissed a boy once when I was twenty-three.”

Xia Yu was stunned for a moment, calculating the time. That had to be him.

“Stop lying,” he poked Lu Zhao’s chest, “You had so many people pursuing you. You mean you never kissed anyone else.”

“No,” Lu Zhao’s hand rested on Xia Yu’s waist, his hands strong and slender as he caressed Xia Yu’s back like a cat, “There were people who confessed to me and asked for a kiss, but I’ve never been a gentleman.”

A true gentleman would grant a heartbroken pursuer’s request, but he wouldn’t.

Xia Yu chuckled, acknowledging that Lu Zhao’s response was indeed typical of him. Lu Zhao wasn’t one to easily give in, and he had little patience.

“So why did you sleep with me then?” he asked softly.

He had pursued Lu Zhao for a year, and it had been a miracle that he had finally managed to get Lu Zhao into bed. Even he found it hard to believe.

Actually, when he had undressed and lay on Lu Zhao’s bed, he had been nervous, fearing that Lu Zhao would throw him out, bedsheet and all.

Lu Zhao had asked himself this question many times over the years, especially after he lost Xia Yu.

With so many people pursuing him and persistent suitors lined up, he hadn’t allowed anyone in until Xia Yu.

But their start had been terrible. Xia Yu had appeared in his life when he had no intention of falling in love at the age of twenty-three, pursuing him relentlessly to the point that he associated Xia Yu with the word “trouble.”

Xia Yu bit Lu Zhao’s lips slightly, using a bit of force.

“The more I listen, the more I think you’re a scoundrel,” Xia Yu’s voice was a bit muffled, but he didn’t separate from Lu Zhao. Their upper bodies were pressed tightly together, and they could feel each other’s heartbeats and boners. Xia Yu looked into Lu Zhao’s gray-blue eyes, which were now burning with passion. He nuzzled against Lu Zhao’s nose and let his soft hair fall on Lu Zhao’s face. “So, do you want to kiss me now?”

Lu Zhao answered with his actions.

He held Xia Yu, and they rolled onto the soft carpet in the home theater.

The light blue silk carpet was woven with red patterns, providing the room’s only touch of color. Xia Yu lay on it, wearing a pure white robe, and with each passionate kiss, red marks were left on his snow-white skin.

Lu Zhao didn’t want to damage him but also wanted to leave his mark.

The soft robe was crumpled and tossed aside, and the room’s temperature continued to rise.

Xia Yu panted, feeling himself sweating. He grabbed Lu Zhao’s shoulders.

He wasn’t sure when the movie had ended, freezing the heroine’s youthful adventures in time.

The male lead wasn’t Sophie Marceau’s true love, just a passing accident.

But as he looked at Lu Zhao, his heart burned as passionately as it had when he was eighteen.

He lifted his head and kissed Lu Zhao again.

“I love you,” Lu Zhao said softly.

Xia Yu blinked his eyes.

Two hours later, Xia Yu lay lazily on the sofa, leaning against Lu Zhao.

He was covered in sweat, but he didn’t feel like moving. While being intimate with Lu Zhao had been enjoyable, it was also physically draining.

The curtains in the home theater were slightly open, allowing the soft and radiant glow of the setting sun to seep into the room.

Lu Zhao continued to kiss him absentmindedly.

“How are things progressing with your divorce from Xu Zhan?” Lu Zhao asked in a low voice. “Do you need me to find you a lawyer? Our Lu family’s legal team is quite good. If you’re willing, you can let me handle it for you.”

He was unusually eager about this matter, hoping to see Xia Yu’s divorce certificate as soon as possible.

Xia Yu yawned, “No need. I’ll handle it myself.”

He and Xu Zhan wouldn’t be going to court, and they didn’t have many shared assets. It was just an amicable separation.

However, Lu Zhao’s question did remind him.

He fiddled with the buttons on Lu Zhao’s collar and said casually, “But there’s something I forgot to tell you.”

“What is it?”

Xia Yu licked his lips and said, “… I haven’t told my family yet. Until we’ve completed the divorce proceedings with Xu Zhan, we won’t be announcing anything.”

Lu Zhao frowned slowly, looking down at Xia Yu. Indeed, he had heard Xia Yu.

“So, we’ll have to keep our relationship low-key for now. I don’t want any unexpected situations before I’ve talked to my family about my divorce,” Xia Yu looked at Lu Zhao, “Can you do that?”

Lu Zhao wondered if there would ever be a day when Xia Yu would introduce him to his family.

But he didn’t want to spoil the mood right now.

Xia Yu lazily nestled in his arms, bathed in the brilliant yet gentle glow of the setting sun, which filled the entire room as it seeped through the gaps in the curtains.

Lu Zhao continued to kiss him absentmindedly.

“Okay,” he finally replied.
