Blinded by Lust chapter 41
At 4:40 PM, Wu Bie was anxiously fidgeting with his phone. Usually, he’d be heading home from work at this time, but now he was feeling uneasy because last night, Huo Zhanyan had decided on his own to come to the company parking lot today to pick him up.
Wu Bie hadn’t responded at the time, but later he felt uneasy. If he left, he was worried that Huo Zhanyan might ask around at the company to find out where he went. But if he stayed, it would seem like he was agreeing to meet him.
After much deliberation, Wu Bie decided to stay at the company. If Huo Zhanyan really showed up, he could deal with it and find a way to send him away.
Since they didn’t have any other way to contact each other, Wu Bie had to open the short video app and wait for Huo Zhanyan’s message. He couldn’t directly ask when Huo Zhanyan would arrive—that would make it seem like he was looking forward to it.
At exactly 5:00 PM, just as the clock on his computer hit the hour, a message from the video app came through—it was from Huo Zhanyan.
“Wu Bie, I’m at your company’s parking lot.”
He shouldn’t have let Huo Zhanyan find out the name of his company. Now it’s like you can run, but you can’t hide. No matter where he went, Huo Zhanyan would find him.
Wu Bie paused what he was doing, closed his computer, grabbed his car keys, and strode out of the office. It was the off-season, and most of the employees had already left. At this hour, the place was almost deserted.
By the time Wu Bie reached the parking lot, a familiar motorcycle was already parked next to his car, and the person on the motorcycle was pretentiously wearing a helmet. Only when he saw Wu Bie did he take it off.
“Wu Bie!” Huo Zhanyan, tall with long legs, rushed over to Wu Bie with a beaming smile that was so bright it was almost blinding.
Wu Bie found it hard to tolerate a man being so clingy and intimate with him. He raised his arm to block him. “I never agreed to anything; you can go back where you came from.”
“But you didn’t refuse me yesterday,” Huo Zhanyan said, pouting his lips innocently at Wu Bie. He thought Wu Bie’s silence was a default agreement. But even if Wu Bie had rejected him, he would still have come over without shame.
“The bathroom doesn’t have a sign saying ‘no eating poop,’ so why don’t you eat it?”
While poop doesn’t talk, Wu Bie does, Huo Zhanyan retorted in his mind, but he still looked pitifully at Wu Bie.
“But I’m leaving tomorrow. If you want to be annoyed by me in the future, you might not even have the chance.”
Wu Bie couldn’t help but laugh at this, “Am I crazy to want you to annoy me? I told you a long time ago, don’t just come to my house or my company. What kind of relationship do we have? You keep coming to find me.”
He had no self-awareness, this deceitful gay man.
“How could we not have a relationship?” Huo Zhanyan argued. “You never said we broke up.”
I’ll break you!
The curse words were on the tip of Wu Bie’s tongue, and he was enraged, “I didn’t even date you, what’s there to break up from?”
Huo Zhanyan didn’t dare to meet Wu Bie’s gaze, his eyes darting around. “How could we not? You said I shouldn’t regret it.”
Bringing up such things infuriated Wu Bie, who looked around, wanting to find something handy to hit Huo Zhanyan with. “Are you tired of living? How dare you bring that up?”
But Wu Bie couldn’t find anything to use. Suddenly, the elevator sounded as it reached the underground parking. He was still angry and didn’t react in time. Huo Zhanyan was quick, grabbing his wrist, and the two quickly hid behind a nearby pillar.
A few colleagues who had just gotten off work chatted and laughed as they got into their cars. Once their car drove out of the parking garage, Wu Bie pushed Huo Zhanyan away and was about to speak when another car drove in with a roar of its engine, forcing them to shrink back behind the pillar again.
Damn it! Why am I hiding with this damn gay man like we’re having an affair?
“Hurry up—”
Wu Bie didn’t finish his sentence when Huo Zhanyan pressed down on his head, forcing him to crouch with him as a car’s headlights shone right where they had just been standing.
Crap.
Huo Zhanyan made a shushing motion and said in a low voice, “Let’s find another place to talk, okay?”
Wu Bie wanted to say no; he had nothing to say to Huo Zhanyan. But today it felt like the cars were conspiring against him, and before he could speak, another one drove in, and they had to crouch up and down again.
Seeing an opportunity, Huo Zhanyan pulled out another helmet from the box. Wu Bie gritted his teeth and could only snatch it from him and put it on.
Huo Zhanyan was ecstatic, afraid Wu Bie would change his mind, and quickly hopped on the motorcycle, sitting down.
Seeing Huo Zhanyan smile so happily, Wu Bie felt that getting on this motorcycle wouldn’t lead to anything good, but just then, he heard another car approaching. With no time to think, he climbed on as well.
The motorcycle took off quickly, brushing past a car that had just entered. Wu Bie was so embarrassed he had to turn his head away, not even noticing it was Chen Xian’s car.
“Hmm?” The passenger, Shen Jixue, rolled down the window halfway. By the time he leaned out, the motorcycle had already disappeared from sight.
Chen Xian was looking for a parking space and, upon hearing Shen Jixue’s voice, asked, “What’s wrong?”
“That motorcycle… it looks familiar,” Shen Jixue said, lowering his gaze, struggling to recall where he had seen it. “The person on it looks a bit familiar too.”
Chen Xian had just parked and didn’t think much of it. “It might belong to someone from the company. Oh, look, Wu Bie’s car is still here. He hasn’t left. Perfect, we can call him to join us.”
Shen Jixue didn’t say anything, but he was sure it wasn’t anyone from Chen Xian’s company who owned that motorcycle. Never mind, it wasn’t important.
Wu Bie thought they would at most find a café to sit in, but Huo Zhanyan kept driving further and further away toward the suburbs.
“Are you a human trafficker or something?” Wu Bie yelled as he pushed away the visor and shouted at Huo Zhanyan. “Where the hell are you taking me?”
With the wind blowing and the helmet on, Huo Zhanyan had to shout back, “Are you afraid I’ll sell you?”
Wu Bie’s temper flared; he couldn’t stand being provoked, especially by Huo Zhanyan. “Am I scared of you?”
“Then hold on tight.”
Since he was already on the motorcycle, there was no getting off now, so Wu Bie didn’t bother to resist.
Once they exited the suburbs, the motorcycle headed straight up the mountain. Nowadays, development was fast, and the mountain roads were smooth asphalt, making it easy for the motorcycle to climb. Along the mountain side, there were plenty of fruit trees.
Wu Bie didn’t even want to waste his breath asking where they were going. If Huo Zhanyan had any ulterior motives, he would definitely grab a rock and smash it over his head.
While Wu Bie was lost in thought, he caught a glimpse of the gloves Huo Zhanyan was wearing. The pink and black colors were instantly recognizable as a gift he had given to Zhanyan.
He couldn’t help but glance at Huo Zhanyan’s profile. The helmet covered his face, making it impossible to see, but he noticed the two chains around Huo Zhanyan’s neck—one was a pocket watch from the captain, and the other was the necklace he bought as a gift for Zhanyan when he returned.
What the hell, does he think he’s a Christmas tree? Why doesn’t he hang that lamp on himself too? He’s acting crazy.
After a while, the motorcycle finally stopped at the mountain peak. As he took off his helmet, Wu Bie frowned and looked around the secluded environment. Was Huo Zhanyan planning to propose and then murder him?
“Are you crazy? Did we need to come all the way out here to talk?”
Huo Zhanyan ignored him. “Are you hungry?”
“Hungry? Are we supposed to find something to eat up here on the mountain?” Wu Bie retorted sharply.
Huo Zhanyan pointed to a farmhouse with a yard not far away and said, “Let’s go eat there.”
Wu Bie was really hungry and had no choice but to follow Huo Zhanyan. As soon as they arrived at the farmhouse, it seemed Huo Zhanyan had made arrangements, and the food was already prepared. They had barely sat down when the dishes started coming out.
They were all home-cooked dishes, looking ordinary but tasting especially good.
“You said you were tired of eating seafood all the time at sea. Now that you’re back, you should want to eat some country food. This is where my parents come to cool off in the summer. I’ve been here once, and the food was decent, so I thought I’d bring you here.”
The food really suited Wu Bie’s taste to the extent that Huo Zhanyan was talking about his own food while Wu Bie ate his.
“Stop rambling, what do you really want?”
There must be some conditions; otherwise, he wouldn’t have gone through the trouble of bringing him all this way just for a meal.
“I want you to spend my birthday with me.”
“Didn’t you just celebrate your birthday?” Wu Bie’s expression was complicated. Could it be that Huo Zhanyan had been lying to him even about his birthday?
Huo Zhanyan was very happy that Wu Bie remembered his birthday. “I know it already passed, but you weren’t here then. Just consider this as a makeup celebration for me.”
But why was Huo Zhanyan so brazenly asking for such a request? Why should Wu Bie do that for him?
“You said you’d take me to watch the sunrise. This isn’t abroad, so we can’t see the sunrise over Cherbourg. We can only set off some fireworks as compensation.”
Wu Bie laughed angrily, “Do I owe you anything? Why should I accompany you?”
“Anyway, you can’t go down since you don’t have a car.” Huo Zhanyan murmured.
Wu Bie found it amusing instead of getting angry; he wasn’t intimidated by threats. He slowly took out his phone, “Can’t I just call a car and spend all my money?”
Seeing this, Huo Zhanyan quickly snatched Wu Bie’s phone away.
“What are you doing? You can’t even agree to set off some fireworks with me. I have to go back to school tomorrow; I can only bother you for this last day.”
“Give me my phone back.” Wu Bie reached out to Huo Zhanyan. Huo Zhanyan sulkily returned the phone to him, only to hear Wu Bie say, “Hurry up and set off the fireworks. Once we’re done, take me back. Tomorrow, you can roll back to your school and don’t bother me again.”
Huo Zhanyan really didn’t know whether to be happy or sad. Wu Bie seemed to give him a chance but was also very heartless, constantly telling him to roll away. Did he really find him that annoying?
After it cooled down, the sky darkened quickly. Once they finished eating, it was already gray outside. Huo Zhanyan had prepared quite a few things, including fireworks and a birthday cake.
Wu Bie took out a cigarette from his pocket and lit one, somewhat disdainfully saying, “You came all the way here just to set off this stuff? I thought you’d at least prepare a firework rocket.”
“Those aren’t allowed. They can easily catch fire. Sparkler sticks are safer.” Huo Zhanyan couldn’t find a lighter after a long time and had to ask Wu Bie for help. “I don’t have a lighter.”
Wu Bie clicked his tongue, took a deep puff of his cigarette, the burning tip glowing bright red. He leaned closer to Huo Zhanyan’s sparkler, and Huo Zhanyan also leaned closer, shielding one side from the wind. The moment the flame caught, silver-gray sparks danced at the tip of the stick.
