Blinded by Lust chapter 38
Huo Zhanyan instinctively swallowed hard and, unable to control himself, raised his arm to touch Wu Bie’s Adam’s apple.
Wu Bie stared in disbelief, quickly withdrawing his hand that was pressed against Huo Zhanyan. He didn’t expect this kid to be so bold as to touch him.
He mouthed a warning to Huo Zhanyan: You! Want! To die!
In an instant, the sharpness under his fingertip slid past, a lingering warmth remaining on Huo Zhanyan’s fingers. He couldn’t help but gently rub them.
He truly was courting death. He knew how much Wu Bie disliked men, hated homosexuals, and loathed him. Every bit of his boldness was a challenge to Wu Bie’s patience, but he just couldn’t help it; he found it impossible to control himself.
The person he had previously only seen on his phone screen was now standing right in front of him. Wu Bie’s voice, his breathing, his heartbeat, his anger, every detail was so vivid, making it impossible for him not to want to get closer.
Instead of distancing himself from the furious Wu Bie, Huo Zhanyan felt a strange thrill. He knew Wu Bie might lose control and hit him again, but so what? Wu Bie was standing right in front of him, no longer just data trapped on a screen—he was real. That alone was enough to set his blood on fire.
Suddenly, someone knocked on the door behind them, and Chen Xian’s voice became clearer as he seemed to be talking to someone.
“Where’s Wu Bie?”
“He was just in the living room watching TV. Who knows? I heard the knocking and thought it was you coming back.” The person’s voice was indifferent, mumbling, “I distinctly heard Wu Bie talking.”
“Wu Bie!” Chen Xian knocked on the door a couple more times but received no response and acted as if he were about to come in.
As the fingerprint lock beeped, a flustered Wu Bie finally regained his senses, shouting back.
“Huh? What’s up?”
Hearing Wu Bie’s voice, Chen Xian paused his action of opening the door. “What’s up? Dinner is ready. What are you doing?”
Every time Wu Bie spoke forcefully, his entire body tensed up, the veins in his neck bulging. This sight made it hard for Huo Zhanyan to look away.
With a heated gaze lingering on him, Wu Bie instinctively touched his neck. In Huo Zhanyan’s eyes, even that small action made Wu Bie’s hand veins seem incredibly sexy.
Wu Bie clenched his fists. He really wanted to punch this clueless gay guy to death. How dare he stare at him so blatantly! Didn’t he get enough of a beating last time?
“Wu Bie? What are you doing?”
Chen Xian’s voice rang out again. Wu Bie didn’t have time to deal with Huo Zhanyan. He glanced around, unsure how to respond, until Huo Zhanyan pointed to the charger on the sofa.
Though Wu Bie was angry, he couldn’t let the excuse go to waste. “My phone died, so I came over to charge it… I’ll be right there…”
“Oh, well, hurry up and finish charging so you can come eat.”
Wu Bie held his breath, and when the noise outside quieted, he finally relaxed a little, but he still couldn’t let his guard down. He suppressed his voice, glaring furiously at Huo Zhanyan.
“How did you get in?”
Huo Zhanyan didn’t know how to explain and certainly couldn’t say that Chen Xian had let him in.
Wu Bie waved dismissively. He didn’t care how Huo Zhanyan had gotten in. “Forget it, I don’t care how you got in. Just get out, now.”
Huo Zhanyan pressed his lips together, his voice low. “Do you really hate me that much?”
Wu Bie pretended not to hear Huo Zhanyan’s question and warned, “I’ll tell you one last time: don’t show up in front of me again. If you do, I’ll punch you again. I mean it.”
With that, he decisively opened his door, but just as he stepped outside, he immediately ducked back in and quickly shut the door. Damn it, why hadn’t Chen Xian closed the door?
Who knows if Shen Jixue was in the living room? If he caught Huo Zhanyan going out, Shen Jixue would never let him live it down.
“Wu Bie,” Huo Zhanyan stood pitifully behind him, not understanding why Wu Bie had come back. It certainly wasn’t out of affection.
Wu Bie thought it over and came up with a compromise. “I’ll go over first. Once that door closes, you can leave, but keep quiet. Don’t let anyone hear you.”
Wu Bie looked serious, as if trying to make Huo Zhanyan’s intrusion sound like a misunderstanding.
“Did you hear me?” he demanded harshly.
Huo Zhanyan didn’t answer, silently meeting his gaze.
Damn, this guy was really annoying. Wu Bie pointed a finger at Huo Zhanyan, thinking this simple plan should be clear enough.
He gave Huo Zhanyan a push, his palm coming into contact with the damp rider suit Huo Zhanyan was wearing. The suit, soaked by rain, was icy cold, but Huo Zhanyan’s body heat was high enough that Wu Bie could feel it through the wet fabric.
Wu Bie gave him an odd look but didn’t dwell on it. He quietly opened the door, peered out, saw no one, and shot Huo Zhanyan a warning look. After stepping out, he left the door slightly open, allowing a sliver of light to creep in.
Once he reached the neighboring apartment, Wu Bie closed the door immediately. By this time, Chen Xian and Shen Jixue had already set the electric stove and food on the coffee table, just waiting for him.
“If you’d taken any longer, I’d have come to get you again. You took forever just to charge your phone. And besides, I have a power bank here.” Chen Xian shoved a dish of oil into Wu Bie’s hand. “Come eat.”
Wu Bie’s mind was racing. How come he didn’t hear any noise from next door? But then again, if he could hear it, so could Chen Xian and Shen Jixue. He had been clear enough, and Huo Zhanyan should’ve taken the hint and left.
“Want something to drink?” Chen Xian grabbed a beer can, popped it open with a hiss.
Shen Jixue chimed in suddenly, “Pour him half a glass. We don’t want him causing a drunken scene later.”
Wu Bie, who had been absentminded, snapped back at Shen Jixue’s snarky tone. “You think you can handle your liquor? Don’t you pass out after half a glass too? Give me a whole can!”
Just for a beer, these two were already bickering. Chen Xian, trying to keep the peace, said, “Just drink the half glass first. You can open another if you finish.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Wu Bie shot him a glare, snatched the can out of his hand, and grumbled, “You’re so fussy over a can of beer.”
Wu Bie was a firecracker, and Shen Jixue knew exactly how to provoke him. When would these two ever stop bickering?
Dinner felt like a battlefield, with the two of them competing over everything. While Wu Bie was busy grabbing food, Chen Xian quietly swiped the remaining half of his beer. As Shen Jixue had predicted, if Wu Bie drank a full can, he’d definitely get drunk and cause a scene. Half a can left him just tipsy, enough to be lively but not intoxicated.
Wu Bie couldn’t hold his liquor, and Shen Jixue wasn’t much better. By the time they finished eating, both of their faces were flushed. Fortunately, they hadn’t had a full can, or they’d probably be singing by now.
Chen Xian sighed. “Ah Xue, go rest. Wu Bie, head back to your place. I’ll clean up.”
Watching Shen Jixue insist on staying to help, Wu Bie was disgusted. Fine, he’d leave; he didn’t want to be there anyway.
Grumbling, he walked back to his place. When he saw his door slightly open, he didn’t think much of it at first. But when he pushed it open, something seemed to be blocking it.
“Huh?”
Wu Bie squinted, confused, and pushed harder.
With a thud, something heavy hit the floor, and the obstacle was removed. The door swung open easily.
Wu Bie stepped in, closed the door, and flicked on the light. There was someone lying on the floor.
“Huh?”
Wu Bie jumped in surprise, but he wasn’t that drunk, and quickly regained his composure. Especially after seeing Huo Zhanyan’s face, he angrily crouched down.
“Why are you still here?” He grabbed Huo Zhanyan by the shoulder, causing him to tip over and lie flat on the floor. “Hey!”
Was this guy faking it?
Wu Bie frowned, shaking Huo Zhanyan forcefully. Huo Zhanyan groaned, his delicate face contorting in pain.
“What are you doing?”
Wu Bie didn’t hesitate. Grabbing Huo Zhanyan’s collar with both hands, he yanked the unconscious man off the floor with brute force and propped him up against the wall.
Huo Zhanyan remained dazed and disoriented, never opening his eyes. Wu Bie, being impatient, thought he was pretending to be unconscious and slapped him twice.
“Whoa, he’s burning up?” Wu Bie looked at his palm in confusion, wondering if he had hit so hard that it created heat.
The slaps jolted Huo Zhanyan awake. He slowly opened his eyes, his eyes bloodshot. His gaze towards Wu Bie was misty, and his cheeks felt both hot and painful. Still disoriented, he instinctively whined, “Wu Bie… I think I have a fever.”
“Why don’t you just burn to death?” Wu Bie didn’t believe a word he said, assuming it was an act. He reached to grab Huo Zhanyan’s collar but brushed against his burning face, realizing he really was feverish.
Wu Bie let go of him, causing the back of Huo Zhanyan’s head to hit the wall with a thud, sending stars dancing in his vision.
Wu Bie skeptically looked down at the fragile Huo Zhanyan lying on the floor. After hesitating, he reached out to feel his forehead, which was as hot as fire.
Shocked, Wu Bie quickly withdrew his hand and noticed the water stains on the floor. The spot where Huo Zhanyan had been lying was soaked, as his clothes were drenched. No wonder he was burning up.
Seeing Huo Zhanyan lying there, barely hanging on, Wu Bie snapped back to reality. Maybe he should call the police or an ambulance for Huo Zhanyan, but then Chen Xian and Shen Jixue would definitely find out.
Should he let Huo Zhanyan walk out on his own? Huo Zhanyan was awake now, and Wu Bie could just call a car for him to get back to the hospital.
“I’ll call a car for you. You can go back to the hospital yourself.”
Huo Zhanyan licked his dry lips. “My motorcycle is still at your neighborhood’s gate.”
“Then ride your motorcycle back!”
Huo Zhanyan blinked his dark, glossy eyes. “Wu Ge, I can’t ride a motorcycle like this, and my leg isn’t fully healed yet.”
Wu Bie’s mouth twitched. “Then what do you want? Do you want to die in my house? You want to drag me down with you?”
Huo Zhanyan’s head was spinning, but he forced himself to sit up, clutching Wu Bie’s pant leg and pleading, “Can I stay until tomorrow morning? Please.”
