Evil Love Appears chapter 98
Xu Jiale sat in the hospital room, staring blankly at his phone screen. For a few seconds, everything felt surreal.
Had Fu Xiaoyu really called him?
It wasn’t until he confirmed it on the phone screen that Xu Jiale abruptly jumped from the hospital bed. He was so flustered that he almost yanked the needle in his wrist.
He quickly pressed the call button to summon a nurse and requested a mobile IV stand. He hung the IV bag on it and, with one hand on the drip, and the other pushing the stand, he rushed out. The speed of his movement stunned the nurse.
The short distance felt like an eternity for Xu Jiale. Every step he took was either too long or too short.
His strides were too big, causing the IV bag to swing vigorously. When his steps were too small, he felt increasingly impatient.
By the time he finally arrived in the parking lot, only about eight minutes had passed since Fu Xiaoyu’s call.
A brisk autumn wind blew into his face, and Xu Jiale realized he had rushed out wearing only a shirt, which felt inadequate for the chilly autumn night. He shivered as he stood in the cold breeze, but he couldn’t focus on that at the moment.
The parking lot was dimly lit at night, and Xu Jiale wished he could extend his neck to see better, staring intently at the entrance.
Seven or eight minutes passed, and Fu Xiaoyu still hadn’t appeared.
Xu Jiale held the IV stand, growing increasingly anxious. He knew it was normal to be a few minutes late, but he couldn’t help himself from repeatedly checking the DingTalk chat with Fu Xiaoyu. He was afraid that Fu Xiaoyu had changed his mind and didn’t want to see him.
Just as Xu Jiale was on the verge of calling Fu Xiaoyu, a slender figure suddenly appeared at the entrance.
It was Fu Xiaoyu.
The tall and slender omega was dressed in a light gray trench coat, with both hands in the coat pockets.
Under the warm yellow streetlight, Fu Xiaoyu’s skin looked as smooth as porcelain. His expression remained blank as he walked step by step from the darkness.
Xu Jiale could feel his heart pounding, experiencing a simultaneous rush of contradictory emotions. Just a minute ago, he had been eager to see Fu Xiaoyu, and now that he was here, he felt extremely nervous.
“Xiaoyu…”
Xu Jiale anxiously went to greet him, feeling like every step was on unstable ground, and his voice was hoarse, “You’re here.”
However, Fu Xiaoyu didn’t respond immediately.
Xu Jiale, with an IV stand and tubes attached, felt disheveled and flustered. Perhaps it was worth mentioning that since their breakup, every time Fu Xiaoyu saw Xu Jiale, this alpha seemed somewhat disheveled, even bordering on comical.
Xu Jiale continued to watch him.
Although he looked very pale and weak, there was a glimmer of light in his narrow eyes behind the lenses. This light seemed like a hint of surprise, but it was being held back.
Fu Xiaoyu couldn’t help but tilt his head slightly, intentionally avoiding the question of how Xu Jiale was feeling. Instead, he said, “Is your father’s surgery successful?”
“Very successful,” Xu Jiale replied after a brief pause and repeated it. He added, “It was just a minor procedure, mainly for a biopsy.”
“Okay,” Fu Xiaoyu said calmly. “Let’s find a place to sit and talk.”
“Okay.”
Xu Jiale nodded in agreement and then realized he should lead the way. He pushed the IV stand forward, and the wheels of the stand made a squeaky sound as they rolled across the ground. Just like his current performance in front of Fu Xiaoyu, he felt a bit clumsy.
There were no seats around the parking lot, but Xu Jiale eventually found an open marble platform. He lowered the IV bag and, leaning against the railing, sat with Fu Xiaoyu on the stone steps in front of it.
Although they sat side by side, there was still a noticeable distance between them.
As they sat together, Xu Jiale noticed that Fu Xiaoyu was gazing ahead and hadn’t spoken yet.
The silence was unsettling, and Xu Jiale’s heart was racing. He knew that Fu Xiaoyu had come to have a conversation, but he wasn’t sure what to expect.
“Xiaoyu…”
Xu Jiale began but was immediately interrupted by Fu Xiaoyu.
“Why are you still inquiring about my well-being through Wang Xiaoshan?”
Fu Xiaoyu turned to look at Xu Jiale.
At first glance, his expression seemed calm, but beneath that calm exterior, there was turmoil, like a calm sea before a storm, exuding a faintly oppressive feeling.
Xu Jiale was about to respond.
But Fu Xiaoyu obviously had no intention of waiting for an answer. He said in a brusque manner, “When you came to Vietnam in the middle of the night, didn’t we already make it very clear? I don’t want occasional concern from you. So, what do you want?”
Just a few questions, and Xu Jiale was already panicking.
He had felt this kind of uneasiness while waiting.
This was what he had feared. He was afraid that Fu Xiaoyu had come to tell him to leave for good.
“No, Xiaoyu, I…”
He desperately wanted to explain.
“Xu Jiale, you’re the one who brought up the breakup.”
Fu Xiaoyu almost didn’t let him speak. He uttered these words through gritted teeth.
At that moment, a burst of uncontrollable anger erupted in Fu Xiaoyu’s round omega eyes. “If you can’t control yourself, why did you break up with me, Xu Jiale? Do you have no understanding of what a breakup means?”
Fu Xiaoyu had never lost control like this before.
In the heat of the moment, anger reached its peak, and sorrow and pain surged alongside it. But he felt liberated.
He had restrained himself in front of Fu Jing, in front of Wang Xiaoshan, and in front of Han Jiangque. He had bitten the bullet for over ten days, partly because of his strong personality and partly because he didn’t want to expose his wounds to others.
But Xu Jiale was not someone else.
Xu Jiale was the jerk who had hurt him.
Xu Jiale looked at Fu Xiaoyu. The omega’s eyes were red, but this redness wasn’t just from soft sadness; it was burning with anger. His shoulders even trembled slightly, as he couldn’t fully restrain his emotions.
For the first time, this typically calm omega exhibited such intense and nearly uncontrollable emotions, leaving Xu Jiale thoroughly panicked.
His heart raced with anxiety, but Fu Xiaoyu didn’t give him a chance to speak.
“Concerned about me, are you? Fine.”
Once the outburst began, it couldn’t be stopped.
Fu Xiaoyu took a cigarette from his pocket, lit it with a snap, and took a drag. This time, he didn’t handle it gently, allowing the smoke to linger in his mouth. Instead, he inhaled it deeply into his lungs, which he had never done before, causing himself to cough.
He coughed but continued to smoke, almost as if he was determined to do so.
“Xu Jiale, I’ll tell you, dengue fever, fever, none of that means anything to me. They don’t even qualify as pain or torment. The deepest pain I’ve experienced was from you—on my birthday. That day was the saddest day of my life. Do you hear me?”
“Xiaoyu, please stop smoking.”
The cigarette Fu Xiaoyu was smoking had a bitter and acrid taste.
Xu Jiale was desperate to take the cigarette from him, but he couldn’t reach Fu Xiaoyu’s fingers, given that he was attached to an IV and had only one hand free.
In the dark night, Xu Jiale’s eyes gradually turned red.
Fu Xiaoyu’s eyes were also red, and he could have endured it, could have been as unyielding as stone.
But Xu Jiale’s every expression couldn’t escape Fu Xiaoyu’s gaze.
The alpha’s suppressed agony on his face, which he had managed to control at the beginning, now resulted in his lips trembling slightly. Eventually, his expression contorted due to the pain, and his breathing became increasingly heavy and labored.
It was as if both their hearts were pierced by the same blade at the same time, with blood gushing out. In that moment, Fu Xiaoyu felt both pain and relief rushing over him.
He wanted to vent his pain and transfer it to Xu Jiale.
Xu Jiale was the only one responsible for this pain in the world.
“Please stop.”
Xu Jiale looked at the omega in front of him. The beautiful eyes were reddening, and tears slowly rolled down.
While Fu Xiaoyu cried, he also continued to cough from smoking. But he even wanted to continue smoking, and his back shuddered.
Xu Jiale felt like he was going crazy.
Fu Xiaoyu was crying.
Damn it, Fu Xiaoyu was crying.
His heart was torn apart, and the pain made him feel like a wild animal gone mad, unable to even locate its own wound.
He couldn’t bear it anymore. He tore off the adhesive bandage from his skin and pulled the needle from his vein, letting it fall to the side. A few drops of blood emerged from the puncture site, but at that moment, he couldn’t feel the slight pain on his skin and flesh.
Xu Jiale almost lunged at him, trying to snatch the damned cigarette.
In the midst of their intense struggle, trying to grab the cigarette for some reason turned into something else.
Xu Jiale went crazy, tightly embracing Fu Xiaoyu.
Fu Xiaoyu, with a cigarette in one hand, instinctively continued to resist, pushing Xu Jiale onto the railing like a young bull.
“Let go!”
The embrace lasted only a second or two, and Fu Xiaoyu angrily pushed Xu Jiale away. During this moment of struggle, the still-burning cigarette came into contact with Xu Jiale’s hand, causing it to burn. The scorching heat made Xu Jiale shudder all over, and his arm quivered for a moment.
He let out a muffled groan, but in that instant, his mind was filled with the determination to hold on, not to let go, no matter what.
I’m sorry, Fu Xiaoyu.
I’m sorry.
“I’m sorry.”
Quivering and dazed in the searing pain, he uttered those words.
“Thud.”
Hearing the apology, Fu Xiaoyu’s emotions finally reached their peak.
He pushed Xu Jiale away and delivered a punch to Xu Jiale’s face.
He struck so forcefully that perhaps he would never strike harder in his entire life.
Xu Jiale’s nose quickly turned red where it was hit, and his glasses were crooked, hanging askew on his right ear.
Amidst the night wind, everything fell silent.
Xu Jiale adjusted his glasses quietly, lowered his head, picked up the cigarette from the steps, extinguished it thoroughly on the marble floor, and then took out a metal cigarette case from his pocket, carefully placing the half-smoked cigarette inside.
His movements were a bit sluggish.
When he raised his head again, a slow stream of red blood trickled down from his nose, but he didn’t wipe it away right away. Instead, he looked at Fu Xiaoyu and repeated, “I’m sorry, Fu Xiaoyu.”
“August 18th was the most wrong day of my life. Saying goodbye to you, especially breaking up with you in that situation—”
Xu Jiale paused for a moment, the taste of blood and smoke mixing around his mouth. He thought of that moment and winced in pain before managing to continue, “That’s not just a mistake. On your birthday, it was the cruelest, most cowardly, and most foolish day of my life. I’ll regret what I did to you that day for the rest of my life.”
