Last Love chapter 27
By the time they arrived at the hospital, Wen Ke’s condition had already improved significantly. The abdominal pain was no longer as intense, but Han Jiangque remained very nervous.
Perhaps because Xu Jiale was present, Han Jiangque’s expression was unreadable, only the tight grip on Wen Ke’s hand hinted at his emotions.
After some necessary examinations, Wen Ke waited in the corridor for a while before being called in for consultation.
Although he hadn’t been to this hospital before, the doctor had apparently reviewed his medical history from the system. As Wen Ke and Han Jiangque sat down, the doctor stared at the computer screen and asked, “Still in the pheromone-sensitive period, right?”
“Yes, it should last another week or two,” Wen Ke replied.
“Does your Alpha know?” The doctor pushed up his glasses, looking away from the screen. Though he was addressing Wen Ke, his sharp gaze focused on Han Jiangque.
“I know,” Han Jiangque nodded.
“Do you know that Omegas in the pheromone-sensitive period shouldn’t be exposed to pheromone stimulation?”
“I…” Han Jiangque hesitated for a moment, then said, “I know.”
“Then what happened?” The doctor’s tone was blunt, and there was a hint of reproach in his eyes. “You should understand that your partner is an E-level Omega in the pheromone-sensitive period. What he needs is the protection of your pheromones, not suppression and forced attraction. I’m not saying you can’t have sexual activities during the sensitive period; there can be some relaxed activities. However, you must control your pheromones during the process. You’re a high-level Alpha, and you’re not a teenager. Don’t you realize how much impact your pheromones can have on a low-level Omega?”
Although the doctor tried to control himself, it was evident he was getting more frustrated as he spoke. It was understandable; night-shift doctors in this specialty often had to deal with sudden situations related to AO pairings, and most of the time, the instigators were Alphas. Hence, some emotional outbursts were normal.
Han Jiangque sat obediently, receiving the scolding. He dared not argue and only quietly asked after the doctor finished, “How is he now? Will there be any problems?”
“We’ll give him an injection to soothe the genital area; it should be okay. But due to this stimulation, I estimate his heat period—well, it might come a few days earlier. You need to be prepared; this is not a joke. Omegas can be very fragile during the sensitive period.”
The doctor tore a sheet from his medical records, handing it to Han Jiangque, and when he looked up again, his eyes showed concern for the Alpha. “Do you know what preparations to make?”
“I…” Han Jiangque, of course, was not entirely ignorant about the heat period, but he cautiously asked, “Can you tell me more? What preparations should I make, and what should I be aware of? Also, will he be in a lot of pain…?”
Ah, young Alphas.
The doctor sighed inwardly, patiently explaining, “At the beginning of this heat period, it will be very, very painful for him. There are various reasons for this. First and foremost is the pheromone-sensitive period. His entire reproductive system is in a fragile state now. It was just removed from the temporary marking, and out of a protective instinct, the reproductive tract will close and contract very tightly. So when reopening it, the pain may be more intense than when it was initially marked. Before the surgery, the hospital would have warned him that the first heat period after the surgery would be very painful; this is not to be taken lightly.”
Wen Ke, between these words, had already understood the relevant information about the detachment surgery, so hearing it again, he wasn’t as frightened.
But Han Jiangque was probably hearing such things from a doctor for the first time. He hurriedly opened his phone, typing quickly and asking, “What about other reasons?”
“There’s another deeper reason. Omegas tend to have excessive suppressant use. Suppressants are not Alpha pheromones; they can only suppress the heat but not truly satisfy the need for heat. So, in the long run, the reproductive tract, originally an E-level, remains in a somewhat suboptimal condition, worsening the issues caused by the sensitive period.”
The doctor shook his head, continuing, “Furthermore, with various negative factors adding up, you stimulated him to enter heat prematurely. The reproductive tract, originally in a state of contraction for self-protection and recovery, was stimulated by your pheromones, disrupting the recovery process. Isn’t that making things worse?”
Han Jiangque didn’t speak, his face filled with concern and self-blame.
He had rushed to the hospital, a few strands of hair standing on end, and a bit of blue stubble growing on his chin, making him look particularly disheveled.
Wen Ke felt a bit sorry and wanted to reach out to smooth the few rebellious strands of hair on his head, but he also knew it wasn’t appropriate at this time. He could only silently lower his head.
In fact, all of this couldn’t entirely be blamed on Han Jiangque. Suppressants, the sensitive period, all stemmed from the failure of his previous marriage with Zhuo Yuan.
Han Jiangque probably hadn’t expected that he was such a tricky Omega. He habitually felt a bit inferior.
“…Create a very safe and relaxing environment. Dim the lights a bit.”
The doctor continued to carefully explain the things to Han Jiangque, “Throughout the heat period, Omegas will be very weak. They need to replenish a lot of nutrients, so let him eat more; and the most important thing is to stay with him, satisfy him. I know it’s tough for an Alpha during this period, but it’s an Alpha’s responsibility.”
However, Wen Ke couldn’t help feeling a bit uneasy. He knew Han Jiangque didn’t mind, but he still couldn’t suppress his anxiety. He was truly afraid of entering the heat, a subconscious resistance that was almost impossible to erase.
Because of the unexpected early onset, he felt even more chaotic and restless.
Before the consultation ended, the doctor suddenly asked, “There’s one more thing I’d like to ask. You haven’t let your Alpha officially mark you, right? This heat period, do you plan to let him mark you officially?”
This question was evidently directed at Wen Ke.
Wen Ke was a bit bewildered; he hadn’t had the chance to think about this issue—
Everything had happened too quickly. Yesterday, when he was extremely frustrated, he even had that impulsive thought of removing the glands. Therefore, the doctor’s question came too suddenly for him.
“I suggest you think carefully if you haven’t already.”
The doctor continued calmly, “As you know, given the condition of your glands, re-marking, especially a final marking, is something you may not endure if it’s stripped off again.”
Han Jiangque, who had initially stood up to open the door, paused at the doctor’s words.
The doctor did not avoid Han Jiangque’s gaze; instead, he looked at Wen Ke and said meaningfully, “Moreover, you are an E-level Omega, and this Alpha is an S-level? Is that correct?”
“yes,” Han Jiangque confirmed.
“Yes, the difference in rank is really significant.” The doctor sighed, “I know Omegas often seek high-level Alphas, which is natural, but very rarely, almost never, is there such a difference as yours. Understand that when it comes to AO pairings with such a level difference, once officially marked… let me be frank, once you are officially marked, as long as the Alpha wishes, you will never have any possibility of resisting him. In other words, Mr. Wen, you may very well lose a part of yourself.”
Wen Ke was stunned for a moment.
His mouth opened, but he couldn’t respond.
Han Jiangque remained silent, his deep black eyes revealing no emotion.
It was the doctor who spoke again, “So this decision is a decision for your entire life, and it must be taken seriously. If you haven’t thought it through, remember to wear a neck guard during the heat period and protect yourself when engaging in intimate activities.”
After the consultation, Xu Jiale, upon hearing that there was nothing major, went straight to the parking lot, saying he wanted to smoke.
Wen Ke received an injection and took some medication. Then, hand in hand with Han Jiangque, they walked towards the parking lot.
On the way, perhaps because both of them were preoccupied, neither spoke.
In the thick darkness, only their footsteps echoed.
When they reached the car, they overheard Xu Jiale making a phone call with his back turned, holding a cigarette between his fingertips, speaking very softly, “Mm, mm… It’s midnight here.”
“No, I’m not calling to talk to the kid. Jin Chu… How have you been lately?”
It seemed like something was said on the other end, and Xu Jiale’s voice became even softer, “Oh, alright, you take care then. I’ll hang up.”
…
On the way home, Xu Jiale asked again, not relaxing until he confirmed that Wen Ke was fine, then he started driving.
Wen Ke stared blankly at the rapidly passing scenery outside the window. However, the doctor’s words seemed to linger repeatedly in his mind—
“Once you are officially marked, as long as the Alpha wishes, you will never have any possibility of resisting him. In other words, Mr. Wen, you may very well lose a part of yourself.”
He knew what that feeling was like, even if Zhuo Yuan was just a C-level Alpha, he could already sense the terror of being marked by him—of being manipulated and controlled.
And Han Jiangque was an S-level, the top-tier Alpha.
If he were a high-level Omega, like the one in the dance floor, perhaps there wouldn’t be such a dilemma.
But he happened to be the lowest level.
SABCDE, that was the gap between him and Han Jiangque, the most disparate power difference in AO relationships.
Physiologically, they were fundamentally incompatible.
Just then, Han Jiangque suddenly leaned in, like a small wolf, placing his head on Wen Ke’s shoulder, and delicately approached the area of the gland with his nose, as if sniffing something.
“Not smelling anything, right…?” Wen Ke finally came to his senses, turned his head, and smiled gently while stroking Han Jiangque’s eyebrow bone. “I’m an E-level pheromone; there really isn’t much of a scent.”
“I can smell it,” Han Jiangque said in a deep voice. “As long as I get close enough, I can smell it.”
Wen Ke was momentarily stunned, feeling that the statement carried profound meaning.
“Don’t be afraid,” Han Jiangque kissed his neck and said, each word pronounced deliberately. “I’ve memorized everything about the heat period and what the doctor said. Wen Ke, this time, I won’t forget. Don’t be afraid.”
