Last Love chapter 1
Wen Ke had a dream one night.
In the dream, a giraffe stretched its neck very long, tirelessly gazing into the distant wilderness.
After some time, the silhouette of a young man appeared at the end of the wilderness—
The young man was alone, running towards him against the backlight.
He tried hard to see the face of the young man, but the scorching sun suddenly shone directly from above, causing him to close his eyes.
The golden waves beside him rustled, making sounds…
The sound grew louder until it submerged him like the sea.
“Wen Ke, are you there?”
A deep and unfamiliar voice echoed in Wen Ke’s ears, waking him up suddenly.
…
…
“Did you have a nightmare?” The man lying next to him touched his forehead and said, “Xiao Ke, you’re sweating.”
“Zhuo Yuan.” Wen Ke buried his face in the man’s chest, surrounded by the scent of his Alpha, just like before. Wen Ke felt somewhat reassured and murmured, “It’s strange, I dreamed of a giraffe again…”
“Dreamed of it again, huh. Well, maybe you were a giraffe in your past life.” Zhuo Yuan chuckled indifferently, patted Wen Ke’s back gently, and said calmly, “Go back to sleep for a while. We have to go to the hospital later.”
“Okay.” Wen Ke responded at first, but then couldn’t help raising his head, asking hesitantly, “Zhuo Yuan, how about… can you reconsider it?”
“Xiao Ke, we agreed on this before.” Zhuo Yuan’s finger touched the sensitive gland on Wen Ke’s neck, with a touch that was both soothing and pressuring, calmly saying, “Be obedient.”
Wen Ke’s body trembled subconsciously, and he obediently lowered his long eyelashes. “Then I’ll sleep a bit more and get up later to make breakfast for you.”
Few Omegas could resist the will of their Alpha. Even though he was asked to leave after being marked for six years, it was such a natural yet cruel thing.
In the early morning, while Zhuo Yuan was still asleep, Wen Ke was already busy in the kitchen.
Zhuo Yuan studied abroad, and he only liked American-style breakfast. As usual, Wen Ke placed whole wheat toast in the oven, set the timer, and cooked black coffee while frying bacon.
Only when Zhuo Yuan was away on a business trip, he would cook some porridge that he liked.
After six years of marriage, he had gotten used to putting Zhuo Yuan first in everything.
After everything was ready, Wen Ke went to the bathroom to wash his face and tidy up. He was too lazy to turn on the light. In the lonely daylight, his face was blurry, and he couldn’t see it clearly.
Zhuo Yuan used to praise his eyes, saying he had a pair of gentle puppy eyes that looked pitiful.
Wen Ke thought that “gentle” was more suitable for describing his personality.
He took a breath and wiped away the thin mist on the mirror with his fingers.
The person in the mirror looked exhausted, with a small red mole below the corner of his right eye.
He was already 28 years old, and besides his naturally fair and delicate skin, this face seemed to have no significant advantages.
He was a very late-blooming Omega, and due to late development, the rating of his glands was very poor, and the scent of his pheromones was also very light.
He wasn’t a very attractive Omega, and he had gradually realized this during his growing years.
Moreover, at this age, he hadn’t been able to successfully conceive for Zhuo Yuan, so facing the ending of being abandoned wasn’t entirely unexpected.
On the way to H Hospital, Wen Ke asked Zhuo Yuan about the app proposal he had made. Zhuo Yuan, while driving, casually said, “I can’t make a final decision on the development. Show it to the project department when you get to the company first. Besides, you’re not a professional; don’t expect too much.”
Actually, Zhuo Yuan had said the same thing two weeks ago.
But Wen Ke didn’t inquire further. He turned his head to look at the misted car window and wrote a few meaningless words on it with his finger, the sound of his fingernail scratching the glass faintly audible.
“We’re here.”
Zhuo Yuan stopped the car in the hospital parking lot and revealed a somewhat radiant smile on his face.
Wen Ke thought that Zhuo Yuan probably really wanted a divorce.
…
Wen Ke underwent several examinations at the hospital, a routine procedure he was familiar with.
But even so, when the tiny probe of the gland detector pierced the gland on the back of his neck, he shivered in pain.
After getting married, the Zhuo family was particularly anxious about the matter of childbirth. Every year, they had him undergo two or three examinations. Of course, the results were almost the same every time— he was still an E-rated Omega, and his chances of conception were too low.
He went from initial frustration to numbness and gradually got used to such blows.
Omega ratings weren’t fixed forever. Wen Ke had also heard that many Omegas, marked later, could gradually upgrade under the influence of Alpha pheromones.
Zhuo Yuan had tried hard for this. When they had just gotten married, Zhuo Yuan thoroughly marked him every heat cycle.
However, after a few years, he was still an E-rated Omega, and Zhuo Yuan was probably tired as well.
He hadn’t been able to change his fate and become one of the lucky ones.
After the examination results came out, Zhuo Yuan didn’t pay much attention, just glanced casually, then went outside the corridor to make a call.
This time was different from before; it wasn’t about checking his fertility but the routine examination required by law before Alpha and Omega divorce.
Wen Ke waited a while before being called into the consultation room with Zhuo Yuan by a specialist.
“Marked for six years?”
The doctor looked down at the printed report, and although he asked the question, he didn’t seem genuinely interested in the answer. He quickly flipped through the report and suddenly furrowed his brow, saying, “In the past two years, you’ve taken so many suppressants from the family clinic? “
Wen Ke subconsciously pulled down his sleeve, covering several needle marks on the inner side of his wrist. Before he could answer, Zhuo Yuan, slightly uneasy, explained, “The company is very busy, and I had to personally oversee overseas business, sometimes not coming back in time.”
The doctor didn’t respond to Zhuo Yuan but looked up sternly at Wen Ke. “I’ve read the report, and the situation is not good. Having been marked for six years, but in the past two years, excessive use of suppressants has weakened your pheromones. If you undergo the mark removal surgery at this time, it’s like extracting all the Alpha pheromones accumulated over six years at once, causing a strong stress reaction.”
“So there are two negative conditions in your body. I need to make it clear to you before the surgery. Besides other general matters, you need to pay special attention to two points. First, after the surgery, the reproductive cavity will be very painful, and the first heat after the operation will be extremely difficult to endure. Second, you are an E-rated Omega. After this mark removal, not only will the next marking be very painful, but if something happens again, your body won’t withstand another removal surgery. Do you understand what I mean?”
Wen Ke’s face turned somewhat pale, and he nodded. “I understand.”
“Well, think about it carefully. If you decide to go through with it, go to the counter for the procedures. I’m free tomorrow morning.”
The doctor handed over the examination report.
Zhuo Yuan went to the counter and completed the procedures, and Wen Ke thought he would discuss it with him again.
He wanted to say something, but in the end, he remained silent, lowering his head and following behind Zhuo Yuan.
Having known each other for over ten years, married for six, Zhuo Yuan had never spoken harshly to him or shown an ugly expression. However, for some reason, Wen Ke found it challenging to resist any decision Zhuo Yuan made.
…
In the afternoon, Zhuo Yuan said he had some work at the company and went out again.
Wen Ke sat on the sofa at home for a long time and then used the computer to search for mark removal surgeries online, reading about how painful the process was for other Omegas. Omega couples divorced so that the Alpha’s mark left in the Omega’s body had to be removed for the Omega to regain control of their life.
Generally, the longer one was marked, the more painful the process of removal would be.
Omega glands were delicate organs, and anesthesia needed to be applied with extreme caution to protect the functionality of the glands. Pain relief was pushed back as a result.
Wen Ke had seen this information many times before. The first time he read it, he was scared, but now, rereading it didn’t evoke much emotion.
After staring blankly at the computer screen for a while, he retrieved the app proposal he had made from his files.
He couldn’t remember how many times he had revised this document. Every word, every image seemed to be vividly imprinted in his mind.
A few months ago, Zhuo Yuan had the idea of developing a dating app. Wen Ke gathered courage to suggest making a proposal, and Zhuo Yuan reluctantly agreed to let him try. However, he didn’t promise much else.
Still, he had received this precious opportunity from his Alpha. He worked tirelessly, researching, creating graphics, and conducting surveys, ultimately producing a carefully crafted proposal.
But before Zhuo Yuan’s company had a chance to review it, he was faced with divorce—
In retrospect, Zhuo Yuan probably had this in mind long ago. Even the proposal idea might have been just a way to appease him.
The divorce was brought up by Zhuo Yuan a month ago, citing a lack of feelings as the reason.
Wen Ke could only recall standing still at that time, looking at Zhuo Yuan but unable to see his face clearly, only the constant movement of Zhuo Yuan’s lips and the sight of his white teeth.
His pain was dull, preventing him from shedding tears as if someone were knocking on his heart with the blunt side of a knife.
There should have been many words to say, many questions to ask, but in the end, he couldn’t bring himself to say anything.
It shouldn’t have been like this.
Their marriage reached this point, perhaps because he was too weak and useless, not fighting for himself.
Maybe he should do something, even if it’s a futile attempt, just do something.
