The Whole World Wants Me To Get Divorced chapter 34
Displaying Affection
Wen Yan had imagined countless times the scene of Rong Xiao confessing to him. It didn’t need to be overly romantic, even a simple question on a regular evening in the courtyard would suffice. He was sure he would nod without hesitation.
However, in his imagination, it never looked like this: him with messy hair, wearing pajamas, and his face unwashed.
Even though his heart was pounding as if it would leap out of his throat, he didn’t dare to make a move, suspecting that he might not have woken up yet, and this was just another dream.
Refusing to believe, he secretly pinched his own cheek, using a bit of force, and it hurt so much that he almost cried.
Rong Xiao, watching him pinching himself, raised an eyebrow and asked, “What are you doing?”
This was quite different from Wen Yan’s anticipated reaction.
Covering his face, he weakly replied, “I thought I was dreaming…”
As it turned out, it really hurt.
But since it wasn’t a dream, the flower Rong Xiao placed in his hand was also a tangible reality, indicating that all of this was real.
In front of him, this monster had just confessed to him, declaring that he belonged to him.
With a shudder, Wen Yan’s voice became somewhat stuttered, “Why, all of a sudden… Weren’t you trying to avoid the issue just a couple of days ago?”
When he questioned Rong Xiao last night, Rong Xiao avoided facing him directly. Now that he woke up, everything seemed different. Had aliens attacked Earth in his sleep?
Rong Xiao extended his hand, gently caressing his soft lips, hinting at what had happened on this bed last night.
“You threatened me last night, saying that if I didn’t admit my feelings for you, you would move out,” Rong Xiao said, sounding both true and false, casually adding, “I thought about it all night and realized I could only yield to your threats. So, I came to confess to you.”
Understanding dawned on Wen Yan; Rong Xiao had surrendered to him.
Unable to contain his smile, Wen Yan, with a hint of dimples, felt proud. He was only eighteen, very young, with plenty of time to spend with Rong Xiao.
This time, Rong Xiao couldn’t avoid the issue. He had confessed to Wen Yan in person, and the title of fiancé was no longer forcefully imposed by the demon control Bureau; it was legitimate.
But he still wanted to tease Rong Xiao a bit. With a somewhat spoiled tone, he asked, “Considering our relationship now, isn’t your confession equivalent to a proposal?”
Rong Xiao didn’t know what Wen Yan was up to, but after a moment of thought, he agreed that it made sense.
“Yes, it is.”
Wen Yan lifted his chin, even more coquettish, “Then, when people propose, don’t they give a ring? Where’s my diamond ring?”
He was intentionally acting cute with Rong Xiao.
But in his calculations, he forgot that he wasn’t dealing with an ordinary human but the top powerhouse in the monster world.
Upon hearing this, Rong Xiao thought it was an easy matter to solve.
“What style do you like?”
As he asked, he snapped his fingers, and the bed was instantly covered with sparkling diamond rings of various styles, all with diamonds over one carat, shining brilliantly.
Being considerate, Rong Xiao added, “You can wear different ones if you like.”
Wen Yan: “…”
Looking at the bed full of rings, he fell into silence.
He had been too careless; this new boyfriend of his couldn’t be judged by common sense.
After a moment of contemplation, Wen Yan reluctantly chose one—a platinum ring with three horizontally set diamonds, just to wear it casually.
Though Wen Yan, as a second-generation wealthy individual, wasn’t particularly interested in diamonds, he still went to show off to the housekeeper.
He swayed it back and forth in front of Yu Bu Wen’s nose, wanting him to take a closer look. He even wished he had a magnifying glass for Yu Bu Wen to examine it thoroughly. After all, there was no one else around for him to boast to.
At this moment, they were sitting on the train heading home, still in the familiar VIP compartment. A vase by the window held freshly bloomed roses, and there were custom-made chocolates on the table, exclusive to the monster realm.
Wen Yan peeled two pieces and tossed them into his mouth, eagerly narrating the confession and proposal story to the housekeeper.
Of course, he skipped the events of the previous night.
His face couldn’t conceal his joy, but he hypocritically complained that Rong Xiao lacked a sense of romance, “Think about it, who confesses when the other person just woke up? And the ring was bought wholesale. I’m just easy to talk to; another person would have left by now.”
Rong Xiao glanced at him without revealing the truth.
Yu Bu Wen silently listened, skillfully preparing coffee for Wen Yan and Rong Xiao. He was an excellent listener, not speaking much but offering timely support.
Regarding Rong Xiao and Wen Yan being together, he didn’t seem particularly surprised. Pouring coffee into a warm porcelain cup, he said, “I’ve said it before; you are special to Master. I have never seen him indulge someone like this before.”
Wen Yan gave him a thumbs-up, praising him, “Good eye.”
Yu Bu Wen smiled, accepting the compliment. However, as he handed the coffee to Wen Yan, he seemed to remember something and said, “Young Master, I just remembered that I ordered a cake and forgot to pick it up. Could you help me get it?”
He said it so naturally that Wen Yan stood up subconsciously, “Oh, sure.”
Without saying a word, he walked out.
However, when he reached the corridor, he vaguely came to his senses, feeling strange. Usually, Yu Bu Wen would either go himself or have a waiter bring it. After Wen Yan left the compartment, Yu Bu Wen handed another cup of coffee to Rong Xiao.
Rong Xiao took a sip, praised the coffee, and then glanced at him, saying, “Ask whatever you want to know.”
Yu Bu Wen remained silent for a moment, looking at Rong Xiao with a complex gaze. He felt that he was becoming more and more unable to understand his master.
Just last night, Rong Xiao told him that if he and Wen Yan got married, Wen Yan would meet an untimely death.
He had a sleepless night, tossing and turning, feeling that Rong Xiao was going to send Wen Yan away, leaving him to die alone. However, now that he saw Wen Yan happily flaunting their affection in front of him, saying they were together, Yu Bu Wen was bewildered.
Unable to hold back, he asked in a low voice, “Sir, are you… planning to marry Wen Yan?”
“If I say yes, would you try to stop me?” Rong Xiao countered.
Yu Bu Wen couldn’t find the words.
He didn’t know.
He didn’t want Rong Xiao to die; he was his master. But what about Wen Yan?
Had Wen Yan done something wrong, that he would willingly face death just because he liked Rong Xiao?
After taking another sip of coffee, Rong Xiao, with a lingering bitterness on his tongue, estimated that Wen Yan would be back soon. He decided not to beat around the bush with Yu Bu Wen.
“I didn’t plan to seek treatment before because I was tired of this mortal realm and didn’t want to linger. But now, with Wen Yan, I’ve become afraid of death. So, I will cooperate with the physician. The monster realm has several powerful spiritual treasures, and a few have recently matured. The doctor said they might be effective for my injuries.”
Might…
“But what if it doesn’t work?” Yu Bu Wen wasn’t fooled.
Rong Xiao fell silent for a moment and then calmly said, “If it doesn’t work, as a dying monster with a lot of blood on my hands, being able to spend a few months together with the person I love would still be fortunate.”
Yu Bu Wen keenly realized that Rong Xiao mentioned months, not years.
There were less than four months until Wen Yan’s eighteenth birthday.
But before he could ask anything more, Rong Xiao’s sensitive ears heard light footsteps approaching.
He warned Yu Bu Wen with a glance.
Yu Bu Wen could only swallow the words he wanted to say.
Wen Yan pushed open the compartment door, holding a tray with a glass cover containing delightful and exquisite pastries. He had already eaten a piece on the way, with a bit of cream still on the corner of his mouth.
He was completely unaware of what had just happened in the compartment. Cheerfully running to Rong Xiao, he handed him a piece of cocoa-flavored square cake.
Rong Xiao reluctantly took a bite and wiped the cream off his mouth with a white handkerchief imprinted with roses.
Outside the window was a beautiful sunset, the golden sun about to sink below the horizon. Warm yellow hues seeped through the window, painting the entire compartment.
Wen Yan leaned against Rong Xiao, both of them possessing outstanding appearances, resembling a painting.
Meanwhile, Yu Bu Wen observed them, wiping a coffee stain off a cup and plate.
He thought, if only time could stand still at this moment.
