Stars run to him chapter 74
Don’t be too greedy
The elevator doors opened, and Gu Zhongyi accompanied Lin Yuheng outside the apartment complex.
A gust of wind blew past them.
Lin Yuheng remembered something and asked, “Regarding the incident in M City, is there something you want to tell me?”
Gu Zhongyi had originally planned to bring it up later, but since Lin Yuheng asked, he said, “Since we suspect it was premeditated murder, we need to confirm if you have any enemies.”
Gu Zhongyi explained in detail, “I’ve investigated both Lin Xiufeng and Cheng Rong. Cheng Rong is just a coward who wouldn’t dare to really make enemies. I want to know, do you have any memories of your parents?”
Lin Yuheng replied emotionlessly, “We were abandoned at the doorstep of an orphanage when we were 5 years old.” But he still vaguely remembered their names, so he took out his phone and sent their names to Gu Zhongyi.
Gu Zhongyi forwarded the names to the private detective.
However, Lin Yuheng was puzzled and said, “Even if our parents had enemies, they have been gone for so many years… who would go to such lengths for such an old grudge?”
Hiring someone to commit murder was no small matter.
The more Lin Yuheng thought about it, the more strange it seemed. He couldn’t understand where these “enemies” could have come from. The incident was undoubtedly bizarre and not accidental.
Gu Zhongyi frowned, holding back the words at the tip of his tongue.
Lin Yuheng asked, “Do you suspect anyone?”
Immediately, Gu Zhongyi’s face darkened. He turned away and didn’t explicitly say, “I’ll investigate further.”
Lin Yuheng was a smart person and didn’t ask any further questions.
He hailed a taxi, and while waiting, he smelled the earthy scent after the rain. He didn’t particularly like that smell, nor did he like rainy days. He stared at the streetlights, squinted, and put his hands in his pockets.
In the darkness, the Alpha’s slender figure was as beautiful as a painting.
“Gu Zhongyi, to be honest, I’m not good at saying nice things,” Lin Yuheng suddenly said, “But I’m grateful to you, both in the past and now.”
Gu Zhongyi’s brows relaxed a bit. “Don’t mention it.”
Lin Yuheng was not only Lin Yuxing’s older brother but also Gu Zhongyi’s friend.
“In this world, there’s nothing that is or isn’t meant to be,” Lin Yuheng decisively took out his phone and continued, “So, I want to give you a little ‘thank you’ gift.”
“Huh?”
Gu Zhongyi wanted to decline politely.
But Lin Yuheng didn’t give him a chance to decline.
He immediately sent Gu Zhongyi about thirty-something pictures of Lin Yuxing dressed in a cat maid outfit, all high-resolution originals.
Gu Zhongyi’s phone kept vibrating, and when he looked, he couldn’t help but become flustered. This time, he, too, felt a bit red in the ears.
“If you get more pictures like this in the future, please be sure to send them to me.”
“Don’t be too greedy,” Lin Yuheng said speechlessly, thinking to himself that Alphas were all like this.
Especially with Liao Yan’s body, he could get stimulated just by accidentally seeing something on the internet, and it was incredibly awkward.
The car arrived.
Lin Yuheng patted Gu Zhongyi’s shoulder and said, “I’m off.”
However, just as Gu Zhongyi turned to enter the building, the taxi Lin Yuheng was in turned around and drove back.
Panicking, Lin Yuheng stumbled out of the car.
He ran up to Gu Zhongyi, ecstatic, and said, “I figured it out!”
In response to Gu Zhongyi’s puzzled gaze, Lin Yuheng suddenly raised his phone and pointed to a person in his message list—Xu Xiangchi.
Gu Zhongyi immediately frowned at that name. “What did he do to you?”
“He wouldn’t dare do anything to me now.”
Gu Zhongyi scrutinized Lin Yuheng’s tall and strong body and thought about it, and it made sense.
“That’s not the point.” Lin Yuheng put away his phone, his emotions fluctuating greatly as he excitedly said, “Didn’t you say that predicting the lottery is a good proof to use?”
Before Gu Zhongyi could ask, Lin Yuheng rushed to say, “in the other world Xu Xiangchi won the lottery! I went with him that time, and he chose the numbers randomly. I can’t remember exactly, we might have to wait until the day.”
With a lingering fear, Lin Yuheng added, “The prize was only 3,000 yuan, so I almost forgot about it!”
Gu Zhongyi asked, “When will he go buy the ticket?”
Lin Yuheng recollected, “Mid next month. If he doesn’t go, I’ll drag him there myself.”
Gu Zhongyi didn’t want to dampen his spirits, “He might not choose the same number this time, and also Lin Yuxing might just see it as a coincidence.”
“Let’s give it a try. We can accumulate more of these ‘coincidences’ and gradually increase Lin Yuxing’s acceptance of this matter. It’s better than doing nothing, right?” Lin Yuheng urged eagerly. “Besides, I can’t just sit idly by.”
“Okay,” Gu Zhongyi replied uncertainly
His anxious heart finally eased, and he smiled brightly at Gu Zhongyi, “I’m leaving now, see you next month.”
The next morning.
When Gu Zhongyi woke up, the person beside him had already disappeared.
Last night, after noticing that Lin Yuxing was still having trouble sleeping, Gu Zhongyi had been taking care of him attentively. He gently stroked Lin Yuxing’s back, repeating the same gesture to help him transition from nightmares to sweet dreams.
As a result, Gu Zhongyi stayed up until four or five in the morning before finally falling asleep.
Now, Gu Zhongyi’s first reaction was to look for him in the kitchen.
When he pushed open the kitchen door, he heaved a sigh of relief.
“Awake?” Lin Yuxing, who was heating up porridge, saw him and pointed to the bowl in his hand, speaking in the same tone as usual, “I found this in the fridge. Is it the one you bought yesterday?”
Gu Zhongyi didn’t deny it. He walked over and reached out to touch Lin Yuxing’s forehead.
Lin Yuxing’s eyes were still swollen, “I’m fine.” but he looked nothing like the sorrowful figure from last night and even smiled softly, “Let’s have porridge for breakfast.”
He turned and put the porridge bowl in the microwave, setting it for three minutes.
Then, he skillfully took out two eggs from the fridge.
Gu Zhongyi approached, his large hand enveloping Lin Yuxing’s, “Let me do it.”
Lin Yuxing quietly withdrew his hand, “I really am fine.”
He turned around and lit the stove, adding some oil to the frying pan. While waiting for the oil to heat up, he lowered his head, his mind stagnating for a moment before he said, “Yesterday… I’m sorry.”
Lin Yuxing knew that Gu Zhongyi didn’t need his apology, and he didn’t need to apologize either. But he just felt that he had been a lot to handle, crying uncontrollably, and making unreasonable demands last night. He felt like he had gone too far.
He should apologize.
Apologetically, Lin Yuxing said, “I said a lot of nonsense. I’m sure I worried you, right?”
The porridge in the microwave emitted a flavorful fragrance, but Lin Yuheng didn’t have much appetite. He stared blankly at the frying pan, and when Gu Zhongyi’s hand rubbed his head, he slowly raised his gaze.
Gu Zhongyi rubbed his head and simply said, “Go rest, I’ll handle the breakfast preparation.”
Under Gu Zhongyi’s insistence, Lin Yuxing put down the spatula in his hand and stood quietly by Gu Zhongyi’s side, refusing to leave the kitchen.
Gu Zhongyi turned around and hugged him, which made his eyes well up with tears again.
Lin Yuxing held onto Gu Zhongyi’s clothes and said, “I want your soothing pheromones.”
That was the first time he actively asked his Alpha for such comfort.
He was afraid of crying again, and he was afraid his emotions would become uncontrollable like last night. He shivered and breathed until the gentle scent of bitter oranges enveloped him.
Gu Zhongyi kissed his forehead and wiped away the dampness at the corner of his eyes with his fingertips. “No more crying. Your eyes will swell up again.”
Lin Yuxing nodded.
After a few seconds, he spoke softly, “Senior…”
“Hmm?”
“You’ve been releasing soothing pheromones all along, aren’t you exhausted?”
“I’m quite a healthy and strong Alpha.”
“…”
Lin Yuxing pursed his lips and felt a little better. “Senior.”
“Hmm?”
“The oil in the pan is smoking.”
Gu Zhongyi quickly let go and turned around to crack the eggs into the pan. As the eggs sizzled, Gu Zhongyi gently stirred the frying pan.
Lin Yuxing stuck to his side without leaving any space, not hiding anything, “I want to go see my brother’s foster father again later. I have something important to ask him.”
Lin Yuxing continued, “I have a lot to tell you, but my mind is in chaos right now. I’ll tell you everything after I’ve sorted things out, okay?”
Gu Zhongyi turned off the heat, turned around, and lightly pinched Lin Yuxing’s cheek. In a deep voice, he said, “Sure, no rush.”
He then gently rubbed his ear simply saying, “I’ll also go with you.”
Lin Yuxing wanted to refuse, but Gu Zhongyi insisted gently, “I’ll wait for you in the car.”
