Top edge chapter 62

Using his thumb and index finger, Shen Siwei pinched the two ends of the spider capsule and examined it under the light.

The capsule emitted a calm metallic glow, about the size of a small fingernail, larger than the previous grain-sized capsules.

“How do I use it?” Shen Siwei asked, placing the spider capsule down.

“Just swallow it,” Klet said.

Shen Siwei threw the spider capsule into his mouth and made a swallowing motion. The small capsule stopped near his tonsils, causing a noticeable foreign sensation.

It felt like having something stuck in his throat that couldn’t be swallowed or spat out, making him quite uncomfortable.

However, at the same time, the compressed high-concentration oxygen released from the spider capsule, relieving the suffocating feeling in his chest and making his body feel lighter.

“How does it feel?” Klet asked.

“It’s good.”

Once used to it, the foreign object sensation became less intense, and there was no need to worry about it being snatched away like the oxygen mask.

Shen Siwei stood up from the ground, moving his shoulders and walking towards Klet. “How long can it last?”

“Malken said a few days won’t be a problem.”

That’s good.

He walked to the perimeter of the photoelectric barrier and said to Klet, “stay still i’ll get you out.”

The square photoelectric fence was composed of four radiators fixed to the ground. If one of the radiators was destroyed, the remaining three would automatically form an isosceles triangle, making the space of the cage even smaller.

And if another one was destroyed, the remaining two would activate a 360-degree surround mode, burning the person inside the fence to death.

However, Shen Siwei would not let such a thing happen to klet.

After destroying the second radiator, he blocked Klet with his body and quickly destroyed the last two radiators.

His clothes  caught fire, leaving scorch marks.

At that moment, he felt a warm sensation on his back as Klet wrapped his jacket over him.

“If I didn’t come to find you, when would you have returned?” Klet frowned, his deep voice filled with frustration.

Honestly, there were many things Shen Siwei couldn’t predict. How could he have known that Moran was so twisted? How could he have known that Miller would use him?

“I could endure being locked up, but why did you come up here to find me?” Shen Siwei had many things he wanted to say to Klet and decided to sit on the ground, “Isn’t it enough that they locked me up? Did you come up here to offer yourself as well?”

“They can’t lock me up.” Klet also sat cross-legged and continued, “I just couldn’t sit still and do nothing.”

“Aren’t you afraid of this high-voltage photoelectric barrier?” Shen Siwei raised his chin, pointing to the burns on Klet’s arm.

“I would get injured,” Klet glanced indifferently at the wound, “but I won’t die.”

It seemed that Klet wasn’t as reckless as Shen Siwei had imagined.

He knew that the top-level defense system wouldn’t attack him, which is why he decided to come up. Moreover, he had a complete plan—to bring the spider capsule to Shen Siwei.

So far, his plan seemed very successful because Shen Siwei was completely free, and no one on the top floor could control him anymore.

“Thank you,” Shen Siwei raised his hand. He initially wanted to rub Klet’s head, but it felt strange, so he pinched his earlobe instead.

Klet grabbed Shen Siwei’s wandering hand and placed it on his own leg, continuing, “After we parted ways, I kept urging Malken to make the spider capsule. When I received your call, I wanted to come and find you, but Avis said you had resolved the crisis and were negotiating with Miller, so I decided to wait for news.”

As a result, he received news of Shen Siwei’s impending marriage to Adolf.

Shen Siwei knew Klet would be unhappy again and took the initiative to speak, “Why didn’t you tell me that you are a Marg? You deceived me for so long.”

“I never felt like I was Marg.Twenty-five years ago, the day you and your teammates found me, my mother told me about my origins. That’s when I found out that my biological father was the ‘great’ leader of the Tree of Life.”

As he spoke, Klet’s tone was quite sarcastic, and Shen Siwei couldn’t help but feel emotional. Miller, as the leader of the Tree of Life, was actually the first to violate the “Refusal to Reproduce Declaration,” and to cover up this fact, he even sent someone to murder his own son.

You were special from a young age,” Shen Siwei sighed, looking at Klet. The image of the little boy in his memory gradually overlapped with the person in front of him. “I remember when I first saw you, I was curious about how you could run so fast. I could hardly catch up.”

“Because I have Marg genes.”

“And I have surpassed the limits of medication.”

So Klet was not only an evolved species but also an evolved Mag. No wonder he acted as if nothing happened in the icy wilderness and could sneak in the deep sea without relying on light devices. His body was capable of withstanding low temperatures, low oxygen levels, and extreme pressure environments.

However…

Shen Siwei suddenly thought of something and couldn’t help but laugh.

Klet was a bit puzzled and asked, “What are you laughing at?”

“I’m laughing at your crying.” Shen Siwei recalled the scene when the two of them separated twenty-five years ago and couldn’t help but find it amusing. “You were so cute when you were a child, crying and not wanting to be separated from me. How did you turn out like this when you grew up?”

“You remembered it wrong.” Klet frowned, “I couldn’t have cried like that.”

“I remembered it wrong?” Shen Siwei raised an eyebrow. “You little brat, you tattooed me with a gorilla. Do you really think I won’t hold you accountable?”

“But it wasn’t you to begin with,” Klet said. “It was a gorilla.”

“Playing tough, huh?” Shen Siwei wasn’t angry either. He didn’t know why, but whenever he thought of Klet’s appearance as a child, he couldn’t stay mad at him. The more he looked at him, the cuter he seemed.

But it wasn’t the time to reminisce now. He suppressed the smile on his lips and sighed, “Miller was murdered.”

“Murdered?” Klet was surprised. “Wasn’t it suicide?”

Shen Siwei briefly explained what had happened and concluded, “In short, Adolf wants to pin the murder on us.”

Klet fell silent for a moment and asked, “What do you think?”

Shen Siwei pondered the question, not answering immediately.

“Shouldn’t we just…” Klet made a throat-slitting gesture.

“No,” Shen Siwei collected his thoughts. “That would only confirm that we murdered the Mags, and we would be caught in more trouble. Nightingale would lose the reputation it’s worked hard to build.”

Shen Siwei and Klet could easily eliminate the top-level authorities, but in doing so, they would certainly face resistance from the lower-class civilians.

Political struggle was never a simple matter of brute force. Each step had to be carefully planned to find the right direction.

“But one thing is certain,” Klet said, “We cannot let Adolf frame us for the crime.”

“That’s easy,” although force alone couldn’t solve the problem completely, it could at least cause a deterrent effect. Now that both of them had their restrictions lifted, Adolf couldn’t do as he pleased anymore.

“But,” Shen Siwei frowned, thinking, “Whether Miller’s death was a suicide or murder, it will definitely shift public opinion in favor of the Mags. Nightingale’s preparations  would be in vain. Is there any way to sway public opinion back?”

“It seems difficult,” Klet said, “It’s more difficult than the Mag-Civilian Alliance.”

“Indeed.”

Miller’s death not only suppressed the matter of the agreement but also gave Adolf an opportunity to eliminate future threats. Once it was confirmed that the representative of the civilians is responsible for the murder of the Marg leader, the civilians will forever be indebted to the Marg and will no longer be able to make a name for themselves.

Looking at it that way, it seemed that using ethical means alone was no longer enough to turn the situation around.

“Perhaps we can learn from Adolf,” Shen Siwei said calmly, his eyes focused. “He played dirty tricks with us, and we can do the same with him.”

“How do we do that?” Klet raised an eyebrow, showing a strong interest in his eyes.

“In the forged will that Miller left behind,” Shen Siwei said as his thoughts became clearer, “he expressed his guilt towards the civilians.”

Following Shen Siwei’s words, Klet added, “The deceased’s wishes should be fulfilled.”

“Exactly,” Shen Siwei snapped his fingers. “First, we need to announce his suicide and make his will public.”

Klet rubbed his chin and said, “In this way, everyone will feel that granting power to the civilians was Miller’s dying wish.”

In that way, although the direction of public opinion had not changed, and  still stood  with Miller, Shen Siwei and Klet’s actions would mean that Miller betrayed the Marg and became a sword against the Marg government.

If the Marg leaders themselves had this intention, what objections could others have?

“From this perspective, the murderer who killed Miller actually did us a favor,” Klet said.

” we have to seize this opportunity,” Shen Siwei said.

Crisis is like a fork in the road. If you take the wrong path, there will be no chance of recovery, but if you choose the right path, you can turn the tide. Since Adolf can use Miller’s death to gain maximum benefits, why can’t Shen Siwei and Klet?

“But Adolf will definitely not agree to call Miller’s death as suicide,” Klet added.

“We won’t let him have the final say on that,” Shen Siwei said. “If he wants to shift the blame onto us, he needs to first see if he has the strength to do so.”

Shen Siwei was in an exposed state. Although force was not the decisive factor in political power, at least he won’t be easily controlled by the other party.

“Now, should we go find Adolf?” Klet asked.

“Good,” Shen Siwei said. “We can start fighting back.”

However, as soon as Shen Siwei finished speaking, the tightly closed elevator doors suddenly opened, and a person in a black cloak appeared at the entrance.

Rita looked at the two people sitting on the floor, relaxed and content, with a hint of surprise on her face. Clearly, she didn’t expect to see such a scene.

Shen Siwei raised his chin and said casually, “If you have something to say, say it.”

With his demeanor, he appeared as if he were the owner of this villa.
